    Just noticed this video. I thought I had watched them all. Great demo. There is another needle just in case you have not discovered it yet, it's called a "Skin Needle". The neck of the needle is not as long as the german needle, however you can adjust it in the holder to give length. Pray that helps. Oh, please be very careful with Skin Needles they are VERY SHARP!!! Ask me how I know😕. The point of the needle is sharp allowing it to penetrate the silk or skin material.

    I love this video!! You are the only one who actually shows how to do this.. I have been trying to learn this method and no one knows anything... I found needles that might make this a bit easier.. I'm am trying to figure out how to do this on a full silk cap if you could think of a way please let me know.. Thanks

    • @SuperWigMaker
      @SuperWigMaker 9 років тому +1

      MissTropical190 Basically the material I used was wrong because it is a fabic, the oil skin substitute is more of a monofilament so the needle doesn't catch so easily on the mesh. Still a special needle might be needed because this has a big problem keeping the hair strands or not snapping the hair strands!

    • @SuperWigMaker
      @SuperWigMaker 10 років тому

      They need to make the material better though, you hear a sizzling sound when you pull the strands, the surface of the needles is not polished and it gets rusty over the time!

    • @daveedwards7586

      I'm disappointed, the hooks arrived today and they are just the standard German hooks, even though the photo on the website was of the curved ones. The quality isn't even as good as the ones I buy from Hugo Royer. :(

    • @SuperWigMaker
      @SuperWigMaker 10 років тому

      Dave Smith
      :/ so they used stock photos for the needs.
      Maybe they don't really have a different kind of them they are just from different factories (cause they are not manufacturers) so one factory makes german needles curved, another makes them bended!

    • @mamborena
      @mamborena 10 років тому

      Dave Smith Did you try HisandHer? that's the only place I buy German needles from. Theirs is different, not as angled or bended at the head as everyone else, makes a difference in speed, I think when it is curved. I've yet to find a vendor who sells the same type of German Needle as HisandHer which is more curved. I like them best.

    • @daveedwards7586

      mamborena Thanks so much! I saw them on the His & Her website, but I'm in Canada and the minimum shipping charge is $55! I only want a few needles so that seems crazy. However, I will email them and ask if it is possible to just mail them to me instead. I'm really happy to knot that they are the curved ones. I really love those needles too! Thanks again! :)

    Thanks for that! You explained the technique perfectly, but I wont be doing that...wayyyyy too time consuming. One thing I found as a beginner, when I bought the german lace the holes were so small I couldnt see to vent the hair. Am I getting the wrong type of lace?

    • @SuperWigMaker
      @SuperWigMaker 10 років тому

      Yes you should be able to see the holes, the lace should be like tulle only it is different material and differently woven and doesn't stretch or unravel.
      And yeah the french method either needs a special tool for this (thus I did it wrong) or it is hell-a-difficult!
      So if I ever had to go through the torture of the silk top I would do it the English way.

    not only did i buy german lace from His and Hers, I bought a pre-made cap and it is VERYYYY difficult to see the holes...they do look like the "honeycomb" like in tulle but they are so small I could barely get my needle through it to vent. Also, as a beginner, my needles seem to get "snagged" on the lace when I go to pull the hair through the loop...bummer...what the heck am i doing wrong?

    I meant to say though that you now how you took an actual silk top apart to see how it was made and the returns were under the silk like the knots would you just grab the good hair and leave the return before pulling it through the fabric? This seems far too much work for a wig I mean it is hard enough as it is without that crap isnt it:)

    • @SuperWigMaker
      @SuperWigMaker 9 років тому +2

      +mercedes hughes Girl you woke up memories when I saw a comment on that video.
      Yes the returns of a silk top are on the in side of the peice thus they are not exposed, much better than having them out, so on top you only have 100% remy tails.
      And yes that would mean the piece would take 10 years to make unless you have a chinese worker and tell him "do this in 1~2 days or you are fired" he will find a way to make it!

    When doing the English method is it best to use like 24 inch hair if you want your wig to be about 18 inches? Or is that not necessary?

    • @SuperWigMaker
      @SuperWigMaker 9 років тому

      When you make a silk top you really don't need too big returns cause you can actually leave the returns on the inside of the wig thus you won't even have short returns, this means you must ventilate double the hair you would normally do cause the returns won't be there to fill the area. In this case even 20 inch hair would be more than enough to have a 18 inch closure, 2 inches of returns, that will be left on the inside (not pulled through the silk on the top of the unit).
      If you want to pull everything on the upper side, so you will have both returns and tails of the hair, you can have 22 inches or whatever you want. It is the same to non silk top ventilation, you choose how long you want your returns to be.
      I usually leave my returns (in non silk tops) from 2 to 4 inches feathered so they don't form a strict line, I talked about this on my video about the human hair returns, how to make them more natural.

    The problems you had, pulling the hair through both materials was probably the material you were working with. There is another method called "Hair Punching" which is rapid; but I don't know how I just stumbled on it on the internet.

    • @SuperWigMaker
      @SuperWigMaker 9 років тому

      Hair punching is another thing, you don't knot the hair, you punch the loop into a base material (like a PU fake skin) and then beneath the material (which is hard) you somehow glue the little loops so they will never pull back on the normal side and shed hair with brushing. It is the fastest method to do fake skin tops and they usually do this with the cheap cosplay skintop wigs.

      I made all my wigs using the Asian needle, I can ventilate with the German but not as fast!

    I've just become another ardent fan of yours. Your demos are so informative and entertaining! I ended up on your channel because I'm losing my hair and don't have the funds to buy a custom-made wig (I have a weird head shape, funny but true). So I'm looking for a great DIY method that gives as close to real life results as possible. I don't mind if a lot of work is involved. The silk option looks very promising to me imitating the human scalp so well. Why do you think it's not worth doing the work? What other type of wig is also true to life but with less work (and frustration) involved?

      Well I canot do silk tops and I am the super wig maker, let that sink for a while. I do not understand how people could have the patience and time to do it and price it so cheaply.
      I can only make lace pieces and the single strand single knot with bleached knots is pretty ok in my opinion.

      Hey video was great!! i feel your frustration. I met a lady who does repairs for jewish wigs with silk tops that have bald spots she also says its not worth it. She does it without the two layers opened so she just pulls them from wherever they are underneath

      I have just bought a few different kinds of laces. What does a silk top lace look like can I send you a pic? I mean i have a silk top but because ive only seen it on a wig and not as the material by itself I am not too sure if it is the right one.
