1. If possible store your scooter in a shed or garage -. If not, cover your scooter with a weather proof cover design for scooters and motorcycles. Don’t cover with plastic because that will cause condensation. The last thing you want is moisture building up.
2. Drain your gas tank - The gas in the carburetor can evaporate leaving residue behind which can clog the whole system. So at the very least you can drain the tank, then run the engine until it uses up the gas in the carburetor.
3. Remove the battery and keep inside - The cold isn't the best place for Batteries. being without use and sitting in freezing temperatures will most likely kill it.
4. Do an oil change - before you store your scooter. Oil picks up all sorts of contamination and leaving the engine cold and sitting in old oil isn’t a good idea. You could just drain the oil, but it’s safer to change it in case you forget to replace once spring rolls around.
5. Clean the scooter - Don’t leave any dust or grease behind. Clean off all the dirty and oily things like the brake linkages and throttle cable.
6. For extra measures you can plug the exhaust pipe - This is to prevent any little critters from nesting and trying to escape the cold.
It’s not a good idea to just store the scooter and simply run the engine for short periods of time over the winter because if you don’t get everything hot enough, this may add moisture to the engine, exhaust, etc., which can then cause corrosion. Starting it up in the garage for a few minutes may do more harm than good.

Good tips couple thing I would run the motor but run it long enough to make sure it get hot. And you said to clean the dirty grease off but I would put a light coat of grease. Keep things from rusting maybe I'm on the fence that tip. If you didnt want to drain gas use a good fuel stabilizer and like the STP. what I use I might go a couple weeks between rides in winter. I keep my battery on a battery tender year around.
Great input Doyle. Thank you.
I would empty the gas and run it dry then add a splash of Truefuel into it and run it dry again.
i just fill the tank with gas (premium) and add Lucas or Sta-bil fuel stabilizer and run the engine for five minutes to get the stabilizer into the carb. take out the battery to store inside and use a wall plug charger occasionally or take it to my local car person to recharge in the spring. dust off occasionally (it is stored in an unheated shed). done this for 16 years and i am in northern Maine not known for easy winters. my machines have been just fine.
Thanks, I had a mouse nest under my variator cover last year. The hole it crawled through was very small, the mouse was smart and took insulation from the garage walls to build the nest. Fuel stabilizer is an absolute must for anytime your scooter will be out of action for a while, and you should ride after you put it in to make sure it's in the carb
Yeah, that's definitely something most people don't think about.
Awesome thanks,🦸🏽♀️
Should change the oil or drain the oil before storing the scooter? I think I heard both bits of advice in this video.
Great points here. Thnx for sharing😀😎👍
and thank you for watching
Great tips
I love the quick bits. There is so much information and it is given and received
😄 I'm glad you like it Chauncey.
Do i need to out the battery in de winter? Because i ride 3 to 4 times in a week
if you are riding throughout the winter no need to take the battery out. these tips are for long term storage or freezing weather and snow.
I thought it was some diy spiked winter tires to rip through ice or something
Are you going to store your scooter or ride thru winter?
Texas winter months still feel like summer. So I'll be riding.
these tips are for freezing winters and long term storage, duh....NOT if you are going to be riding.
