"Nuit d'étoiles" | French Art Song | Madeline Best

The Senior Recital of Madeline Best and Celia-Marie Bartholomew, from Suzanne Thorup's vocal studio, held on Saturday, June 29, 2024 at the Vieve Gore Concert Hall at Westminster University. I sang this gorgeous Debussy piece for NATS this year, and won 3rd place in HS IV Classical. I also sang it for SLSPA's audition showcase, various college auditions, and my regional Sterling Scholar interview for Vocal Performance. I even advanced, and became a Vocal Performance Sterling Scholar finalist -- one of 12 in Utah!

Nuit d'étoiles, sous tes voiles,
Sous ta brise et tes parfums,
Triste lyre qui soupire,
Je rêve aux amours défunts.
La sereine mélancholie
Vient éclore au fond de mon cœur
Et j'entends l'âme de ma mie
Tressallir dans le bois rêveur.
Je revois à notre fontaine
Tes regards bleus comme les cieux;
Cette rose, c'est ton haleine,

English Translation:
Night of-stars, beneath your veils,
in your breeze and fragrance,
sad lyre that sighs,
I dream of loves past.
The serene melancholy
stirs deep in my heart
and I sense the soul of my beloved
quiver in the dreamy forest.
I see again at our fountain
your gaze as blue as the skies;
this rose, is your breath,
and those stars are your eyes.
