- Join us live at TED HQ, aka RAF Coningsby for an action packed live show with the Eurofighter Typhoon FGR4. Everyday is different at RAF Coningsby and as it is home to two frontline combat ready squadrons, an OCU (Operational Conversion Unit) who train our next gen Typhoon pilots, a TES (Test and Evaluation Squadron) and a joint RAF/QEAF squadron. It is home to the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (BBMF) and the Typhoon Display Team. This time of year we will start to see the practice displays from both BBMF and the Typhoon. Listen out for TURBO or Merlin engines.

This year's 2024 Typhoon Display Pilot is David "TURBO" Turnbull. He will be doing his first set of 10 practice displays at 1,500ft and then will lower it to 500ft hard deck before being allowed to smack it right down to 100ft. Once you hear callsign TURBO, there will be excitement. However, Turbo will also be carrying out practice displays around the country, this is to prepare him and get used to performing displays away from the home base, which is what airshow season is all about. Before Turbo will be allowed to display at airshows, he will need to achieve and obtain his PDA (Public Display Authority). Without this insurance, he will not be able to display at airshows and venues. The other responsibility is once a pilot obtains a PDA, they cannot go more than 10 days with some sort of display, whether practice or real world at air shows. Failing this would result in having to re-apply for a PDA.
29 SQUADRON
During World War One, 26 of the pilots had achieved 'Ace' Status. Aircraft flown have included the Mosquito, Phantom and Tornado F3. 29 Squadron train RAF combat air pilots on the Typhoon, ready for front-line operations. In 1915, 29 Squadron formed at Gosport and travelled to France as a fighter squadron. Then in 1940 the Squadron began service as a defensive night fighter squadron. Three years later, they began offensive night intruder operations defending RAF heavy bombers. In 1987, the Squadron ecame the first operational squadron to be equipped with the Tornado F3 and in 2003 they were the second RAF squadron to receive the Typhoon.

This was truly an amazing day, so much going on. We had the Typhoons, we had the PDA event the BBMF with the Spitfire, Hurricane and not forgetting the most important our Typhoon Display Pilot Turbo it was a nerve wracking day we would know before the end of the day if they had all passed and by 3.30pm the news was announced by Nikos that all had passed many congratulations to all concerned you must be all so proud. We love you all here at the TCS the bears have been very busy too we even got to see some new bears Tony the BBMF bear and Penrose all dressed up in his finery another bear from the BBMF . Claire Bear was also with us today she was ever so busy selling the merchandise from the TCS Store you go girl. Well Nikos and Ted were so busy filming the amazing planes the car park was overflowing it was a truly stunning day and for once the current bun was out all day. Way to go TCS.

I can feel a sick day coming on...
Been watching this over the past few nights, well its over 8hrs lol. But more than ever these past couple of nights I've needed it! When things are tough there's always the TCS live stream from wonderful base somewhere in the UK. So this is the PDA day, saw it last year without really understanding the full implications but this year I get it. I know New Turbo smashed it by re-Writing the songsheet to make it like a TCS stream, involving for those that watch. He did just that. Impressive 👍
Seems everyone knew cos that car park was heaving! Guest bears aka Penfold and Tony joined the fun. The sun was out, Claire Bear Bear was there along with other voices I recognise lol 😆 🫡😉😉.
3 ship formation and break @ 1:45:35 and its gonna get better. 3:43:24 Turbo's up, in Turbo quick time to ace the display coolly. Legend that he is.Pairs take off @1:22:49 like mirror image climb to the clouds, epic! 50K plaque rather marvellous there from a member we all know. 🤔🫡😉. If that ain't enough? Then we have The Hurricane and Spitfire to warm our hearts plus a practice display from the gorgeous Spitfire on full throttle Merlin mode. Lovely.. Even a Typhoon with drag chute action for added bonus. Epic filming, enthralling education and super cool 😎 action.
