I love that you are not so fixated on price for grails. Most people have lost that concept and believe it cannot be a grail unless it costs x amount or more. A true grail would be one that in your eyes the light shines down on it, and you hear the angels sing. It is perfection to you. Nothing will be perfect for everyone; because everyone has a different way of looking at and judging things.
A Grail to me is just a balisong that you really really really wanted... for me it was my Medusa. Ever since I first got into the community a few months ago I've seen the Medusa since the beginning and I instantly tracked down the maker, and it took a while before I got super lucky and got one from a drop (fuck scalpers!) I thought it was beautiful, the handles and blade. I love channel balisongs and press fit zen pins. Also the blade is just sexy if you say otherwise you're crazy (jk just my opinion) but a Grail can be anything that is special to you. Doesn't have to be thousands of dollars, just something you had trouble sleeping while waiting for shipping lol. I felt like Christmas was coming like I was a young kid again.
I don't want to make any assertions or assumptions, but I wonder if people are bored with the kraken? I have both Kraken blade variants and the aluminum barbones. My krakens have immaculate tolerances and are rounded on every surface. They always feel comfortable in the hand. My barebones came with a small bushing (that brs won't replace) and it's kilda sharp on the end of the handles...like pointy.....anyway. I don't want to sound whiney, it does flip nice. I wholeheartedly recommend that you try them both.
Yeah, I've heard a few people say that krakens don't have any "character" or something, but I'd love to try one out for myself. I think the reason I didn't put the kraken on this list is because it's not really an interesting grail: everyone who doesn't have a kraken wants one. Speaks to how much the kraken has become a mainstay for all flippers and a "default" balisong.
my grail would probably be the ability to make my own balisongs. i know its not a knife but i just want a slim FHM style balisong that has the tanto rep balance
Grail category is usually defined as $800-$1000+ grail isn't 250 just saying. I know to you it may be like one of the top ones you would want but that isn't grail category. We need to make sure to keep with what would or wouldn't be a grail as value on these do matter. I bali you really really want doesn't make it a grail it's never been that way in any collectors hobby etc. It's something the balisong community has been making up.
