This was a blast. So glad you enjoyed it. At a time when people are stressed out about which timeline is best for their favourite franchise, it's pretty darn comforting to have Child's Play...... 7 movies.... 2 TV seasons.... ONE timeline. It's just a really fun time. It's obvious that a lot of love went into making this. Don Mancini created a real family of cast, crew and fans over the years. (Decades! Geez, I feel old now).
Chucky is not into satanism. He practices voodoo magic and spells. He was taught it and learned how to do so. Chucky is also not only a savage but he is also funny too. Also the scene of Andy crying saying Chucky is going to kill him almost always gets me. Felt so bad for him but at the same time, he was also a badass and one of the smartest characters in the horror genre. He almost always does everything himself besides his mother and Detective Mike. It was at this moment that history forever changed for Andy and he'd never be the same afterwards.
I love this series because later movies really play into the absurdity of Chucky's vulgar nature and devolve almost into a horror-comedy hybrid. Even in this movie, his first words to the mom and the scene in the elevator give you a sign of the funny things to come. Child's Play 2 and 3 ramp it up before it becomes a full-on Slasher-comedy in Bride of Chucky and Seed of Chucky. Curse of Chucky brings it back to its much creepier roots, but the comedy stuff is so much fun.
Basically all the slasher franchises of the time frame did this, outside of Halloween, which became absurd without learning into the comedy. Nightmare on Elm Street and Friday the 13th were also pretty self aware with the comedy aspect.
The Chucky doll was loosley based on a lifesize doll from the 80s called "My Buddy" which is remembered for its disgustingly catchy jingle. very similar in style. There was also girls version "Kid Sister"
*KEEP GOING!!!* Chucky only gets funnier. My little girl was him 2x on Halloween, and I'm 100% serious when I tell you she scared the shit out of several adults at the doors. She even had families following us just to watch. It was awesome. One guy fell flat on his ass when she jumped at the door. His wife was crying/laughing and gave my daughter a whole unopened bag of candy.
@@samuelspiel8855 She wasn't even in Kindergarten yet, probable her age and size in my pic, but she had his sneer down perfect. The guy who screamed and fell on his ass was wearing Jason's hockey mask, which made it 10x funnier than it already was. My oldest niece was 11, and her and her friends would walk up to the doors and separate so my crazy kid could pop out.
Fun fact, Brad Dourif recorded his Chucky lines from the ADR Studio, and he frightened his daughter when she walked in on him while he was recording Chucky's screaming for when Andy burns him.
"Where the fuck is this little thing?" This really made me laugh! It's crazy how a story about a doll can be so freaking scary. Absolutely love your reactions, so glad I found your channel. Love how you take time to really discuss and unpack the movies and also how you talk about what you know about the film beforehand. Really enjoy watching you both, thanks so much! :)
I was fortunate enough to get autographs and meet Brad Douriff and Alex Vincent at a convention a few years ago. Alex was was super nice and friendly Brad didnt have much time to chat as they were rushing to get him to his next event. They both signed a Chucky Funko for me!
Check out Fright Night which is from the same director and stars Chris Sarandon as a vampire. It’s a great movie with a standout performance from the late great Roddy McDowell
This is my first reaction to your channel. I swear I never laughed so hard at both your reactions. I saw this movie as a teenager when it was released, and I'm with you Schmidtt: this put me off any movies involving murdering or possessed inanimate objects. But you reaction at the car scene, along with Samantha looking and laughing at you was the funniest expressions I've ever seen. A great reaction video!
After watching this movie since I was about 4 years old - I have something new to finally realize. Yes it was dark when Karen (mom) was working that night of her son's birthday. Also winter in Chicago - gets dark by about 4:30pm. She may have been working until 8 or 9pm - and Andy's bedtime would be say 8pm - that whole hour of him asleep is the death of Aunt Maggie. Arrival of his mom via bus at maybe ~10pm
The sequel is a must see) Alex Vincent as Andy again and Chucky's facial expressions were perfected a lot. Also, the camerawork in part 2 is just outstanding!
The thing that I always had to remind myself of when watching this film was that even though Chucky possesses the body of a doll he still possessed the strength of a full grown man; and considering Chucky was a serial killer known by the moniker of "The Lakeshore Strangler" I imagine Chucky in his original human form had a considerable amount of strength to strangle his victims, so it doesn't surprise me that he was able to perform some of the feats that he did throughout the film series.
Sam laughing at the TBR's trauma is just so cute. I don't know why but I love it. Anyway great reaction as always. The other movies are worth a look if nothing more than for their campiness factor. I mean lets be real, it's doll, how hard can it really be to defeat a doll.
fun fact the actor who played Mike Norris is the same guy who played Jack Skellington in The Nightmare Before Christmas and Prince Humperdinck in The Princess Bride
The Chucky Doll and Effects were done by Kevin Yagher, whom would later marry Kathrine Hicks, Andy's Mom, 1990. Yagher would later return to the franchise for CHILD'S PLAY 2 and 3.
Lol. I was thinking "I always get the end of this movie mixed up with Gremlins, imagining Chucky driving the Barbie car.." then heard TBR say 'reminds me of the toy store in Gremlins'. :)
Yes, Alex Vincent continued on to play Andy thru out the movies and even today with the new TV series. Chucky just will not leave him alone and just obsessed with killing him, lol, but it's true.
I always enjoy your reactions but this was particularly hilarious! You mentioning the attempted stab in the butt from under the seat before the movie had me cracking up! 🤣😂 Then later in the movie in the car you were like... "Oh Fuck! This Might Be The Scene!!!" 😂🤣😂🤣
Seriously this whole franchise is criminally underrated. I hope you react to all of them (except the remake). They all vary much in tone and style which keeps it fresh. Even the new TV show that will drop its second season soon is in canon with the movies so watch all the movies in release order and then the TV-show. I guarantee you that you will have a blast. Same writer/creator involved in all and Brad Dourif (also famous for playing Wormtongue in Lord of the Rings) voices Chucky in all of them as well. Great reaction as always. You're one of the best reactor channels out there.
Chris Sarandon has a memorable role in Fright Night. BTW, there's a good Twilight Zone episode about an evil doll. It's a Talky Tina doll and it's final line is chilling.
Yep, I remember the Twilight Zone episode. It stars the late Telly Savalas. Regarding scary killer dolls,..there was an anthology TV movie called Trilogy of Terror starring Karen Black. Three stories,.. one of the stories was of a voodoo doll that comes to life and terrorizes the Karen Black character. I watched it on UA-cam a little while back. It still holds up to today's scary doll movies.
Andy is the best and smart main character of all time Everyone reaction when chucky was alive is priceless even your wife He has sequel and his show You two react the best horror movie ever awesome you both
Fantastic reaction. I actually think the Chucky franchise is one of the most solid and fun horror series, 7 movies then into a great TV series largely thanks to the creator Don Mancini being hands on with the whole run. Even the reboot set in its own continuity was pretty effective with Mark Hamill playing Chucky. I hope you do more (or all) of this series, it's actually all a continuous storyline. P.S. Chucky might be hiding in your toilet as well as under your car seat. 😱🤣
This movie haunted me as a kid too. Around 9-10yrs old I watched Childs Play and Leprechaun. Ever since then I never liked dolls of any kind and always look at people/things twice. Great reaction as always, keep up the good work.
Andys “This IS the end” is one of those iconic hero lines that stick with always. It rivals Brodys “We’re gonna need a bigger boat”, Carol Anns “They’re heeere”, Leonidas “THIS! IS! SPARTA!” and Trinitys “Dodge this!”.
Jack Colvin, who played the doctor, was very famous for playing Jack McGee in The Incredible Hulk. One might say that he made Chucky angry and paid for it.
There was a My Buddy line of dolls that came out before the Chuckie movies. Some say it was the inspiration, others that it wasn't. It was a creepy thing though. The Cabbage Patch Kids may have had it beat though. Not only where they a hotly sought after toy and creepy, but they quickly had a legend of some veing haunted or even possessed. I had a step sister who had several of them and admitted to being scared of them at night. So one night after she had been a real pain all day, I went into her room and moved them from the chair she kept them in and lined them up on the foot of her bed. Got in a lot of trouble for that, but it was worth it.
This movie ranked at #93 in the 100 scariest movie moments on Bravo, cool reaction as always Schmitt & Samantha, you both take care and Happy Halloween 🎃
@@nightmaster5593 I'm just giving facts about a special that aired on Bravo in October 2004, 100 scariest movie moments but it's early for Halloween though, that's about it
Love the Childs Play series. The second one is my favorite of all of them. Back in 2008 a bunch of friends and I went on vacation to Florida and we stayed in a villa. One of our friends staying there invited someone over one night to hang out that ended up being Alex Vincent. As a big Chucky fan, I was definitely caught off guard by that. Haha.
another fun fact: chris sarandon was initially not wanted by the studio. The director, tom holland, basically had to threaten to walk from the project if sarandon was not cast. In addition to directing, holland also starred, wrote, and directed my favorite stephen king adaptation, The Langoliers.
6:22 The friend is Dinah Manoff, she was on a sitcom in the late 80's to early 90's called 'Empty Nest'. And Andy's mom is Catherine Hicks from '7th Heaven'.
Man for me the creepiest moment was at the end when Chucky says "hi I'm Chucky...wanna plaaaaayyyyyyyyy" 😱😨 But yeah you guys should totally check out the rest of the child's play movies and the Chucky series 😈😎👍
There's another 80s classic campy horror movie called GHOULIES where a little goblin came out of the toilet while some guy was poopin' and bit him. That scarred my mind as a kid. Lol
Catherine Hicks starred on The WB's 7th Heaven and in Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home. Dinah Manoff appeared on ABC's Soap and in Grease, and starred on NBC's Empty Nest. Brad Dourif played a serial killer on Star Trek: Voyager and another one in The Exorcist III, and won a BAFTA, a Golden Globe Award, and an Oscar nomination, for One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, starring Danny DeVito and Christopher Lloyd, Louise Fletcher, and Jack Nicholson. Jack Colvin was previously Jack McGee, an investigative reporter on CBS' The Incredible Hulk nearly every week. Dr. David Banner told him in the pilot, "Mr. McGee, don't make me angry. You wouldn't like me when I'm angry." Please consider Child's Play 2 and Bride of Chucky. Also Halloween II, A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors, and Friday the 13th, Part IV: The Final Chapter.
Child's Play is one of those movies whose covers always stuck out in a video store, and I was scared of everything as a kid. But I watched 2 as a kid with my cousins, and despite being super nervous in the beginning I ended up loving it. It was so fun, been a fan since. I seem to remember the first one being one of those banned movies in my country, like The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Evil Dead, so it took until DVD until I could get a copy. You need to watch all of them, including the tv show, it's all a continuing story.
Moral of the story: Remember parents, only buy the expensive original toys at official stores, otherwise you might end up getting a demonic doll posessed by a serial killer.
Chris Sarandon, former husband of Susan, was in "The Princess Bride" and "Dog Day Afternoon." Catherine Hicks was in "Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home." She also portrayed Marilyn Monroe in a TV movie.
“Hi I’m Chucky wanna play?” Dolls (1987), Puppet Master (1989) and Demonic Toys (1992) are some horror movie recommendations about killer toys for y’all

Glad you two truly enjoy this classic movie, and how much I enjoyed the original Child's Play movie how Charles Lee Ray became the killer doll also this ain't no typical Toy Story movie.
damn thats so cool you guys are now reacting to this, the best time to get into this franchise now that the show is in full throttle :D this is the best slasher franchise that constantly keeps evolving and reinventing itself, I hope you go through it all that would be a great time :)
Andy was the cutest scary movie kid! I want to protect him even more as an adult. his story ends up so sad in the second one also im dyinng at Samanthas face when Chucky starts attacking the mom lmao the complete shock at the bizarre turn of events lmaoo
My favorite slasher and horror franchise! Really glad you reacted to this. I'd say that you should react to at least Child's Play 2, which is usually the favorite among the fans and it leans more into slasher in terms of the style and mood. My own personal favorite is this one, the first movie. It's easily the most ''beliavable'' one (...I mean, as beliavable as a living killer doll can be) and also the darkest in the franchise. Much more a thriller than a slasher like the sequels. If you decide to go even further than CP2 you'll see some pretty drastic changes in the films and some of the newer sequels play more with how absurd the whole idea of Chucky is. Films like Bride of Chucky and Seed of Chucky are just straight up horror comedies where things get *really* bonkers, especially with the last one. After that there's two sequels which go more back to horror again. Chucky also got his own TV series last year and we are in the middle of it's second season at the moment. So there is tons of Chucky stuff (6 sequels and 2 seasons of the tv series) to check out if you decide to go that route! And that's what I obviously hope as a fan but also understand that the character is not everyone's cup of tea. But I'm still happy that you checked this one out anyway. 😊
My wife and I met Alex Vincent a few years ago at Texas Frightmare Weekend, all grown up of course. We ran into him twice after meeting him at his table, the second time was in the lobby where we talked to him for a few minutes and then the third time was at the after party where he was drunk lol. He's a great guy to talk to. He's commented on what it was like working on the movie, he wasn't actually scared of the Chucky puppet at all, the puppeteers were all there and showed him how Chucky worked, Alex just thought it was a very cool robot, which is what Chucky was really. Lastly, love bloomed from this movie, Catherine Hicks who played Karen, met, fell in love with and married Chucky's designer and builder Kevin Yahger on set and they're still married to this day.
The mother, she was in a 90s television show , 7th heaven some family show Jennifer something was in it ( justin Timberlake wife ) played her daughter and she was in star trek . Actually the husband in it was in star trek as well , Christian happy father's dad is a parter or something. The friend. Is very familiar but i cant think of it , her voice is especially familiar. Oh chucky, before and the voice is from lord of the rings ( grima worm tongue) creppy villain. And he was in one flew over the cuckoo's nest with jack Nicholson.
The concept of a evil, living doll has been done several times before this movie came out, most notably in "The Twilight Zone" TV show. There were episodes with talking ventriloquist dummies and perhaps the first and one of best was the "Talking Tina" episode with Telly Savalas.
*My aunt grew up with Brad Dourif. Says he was a quiet but extremely sweet little kid. She doesn't tell anyone in her church group that he's played a demonic killer doll for 30+ years* 🤣🤣🤣
Fun fact: I've heard that when Brad Dourif, Chucky's voice actor, went to the studio to record his screams for the part where Chucky gets lit on fire, he brought his daughter Fiona, who was a child at the time, with him and she was freaking out and crying because she heard him screaming and thought that something bad was really happening to him and he had to run into the room to calm her down and tell her that he was okay and that he was only pretending.
My mom usually just watched BBC period dramas back in the day, but for some reason she loved the Chucky trilogy and thought he was hilarious. I was too young for the R rated versions but she taped the TV versions for us to watch. Good memories.
That scene where the mother finds out the doll is real is so creepy! The tension waiting for it to come alive to her is insane...then it DOES come to life and it's believable! Well done scene to a well done movie =)

This was inspired by the
Anthony Hopkins film " Magic" (78 ) which is far far superior. .
The Chucky doll was loosley based on a lifesize doll from the 80s called "My Buddy" which is remembered for its disgustingly catchy jingle. very similar in style. There was also girls version "Kid Sister"
“THIS IS THE END, FRIEND!” 🔥😈🔪
My favorite film of the Chucky series, mainly because of Andy + his mom’s chemistry.
Badass!
@@clevelandcbi That proves it: even Jason is afraid of Chucky. I'm now imagining what a Jason vs. Chucky movie would've been like.
Parenting done right. Good job! :D
Was even creepier when many people thought this was similar to the "My Buddy" doll during this time.
Yeah. Chris sarandon is great in that. I always remberer the line "oh your so cool brewster" lol
Fright Night Part 2 is super underrated too, great continuation of the first
"Welcome to Frrrright Night.,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,For real." Classic 80's flick.
I miss Anton so much!
Yes, this one is excellent... Love the work of Brad Fiedel on it. Brilliant atmosphere from the beginning to the end...
Somebody probably said this. Maggie is from Grease, she played Marty. The Mom was in the show , 7th Heaven and in Star Trek 4
"Ugly doll"
"FUCK YOU!!!"
So fuckin funny.
Check out their recent reactions to the first few episodes of Ash vs Evil Dead. They're very similar and priceless.
“She looks familiar” …she was the mom on that show ‘7th Heaven’.
That’s all I’ve seen her in
Sam laughing at the TBR's trauma is just so cute.
I sure hope Mike Norris and Andy's Mom deserve a comeback in either the future Chucky movie or appeared in the television series.
You are totally on my bar trivia team.
He also played Jerry Dandridge in Fright Night.
Except his singing voice. That's Danny Elfman.
He was also in Fright Night as someone mentioned 😉 Great movie!
26:09, Samantha: "AHHHH!!"
TBR: "This Fucking Thing!" Lol!!
You guys HAVE to watch the Chucky series, but to understand it you need to watch all 7 Chucky movies.
Yes and the Chucky TV show after
I love Brad Dourif! He is so underrated and his voice acting is so great in these movies
Chucky probably got the knife from where Barclays mum was in the kitchen of her home
Yes, Alex Vincent continued on to play Andy thru out the movies and even today with the new TV series. Chucky just will not leave him alone and just obsessed with killing him, lol, but it's true.
Except for the 3rd movie
Except for Child's Play 3, Bride Of Chucky, and Seed Of Chucky
I always enjoy your reactions but this was particularly hilarious!
You mentioning the attempted stab in the butt from under the seat before the movie had me cracking up! 🤣😂
Then later in the movie in the car you were like... "Oh Fuck! This Might Be The Scene!!!"
😂🤣😂🤣
Aunt Maggie was one of the pink ladies in the movie grease. She played Marty Maraschino
I love those lines, "ugly doll" "f you!" LOL!
Andy is the best and smart main character of all time
Everyone reaction when chucky was alive is priceless even your wife
He has sequel and his show
You two react the best horror movie ever awesome you both
Fantastic reaction.
The cop in this movie plays Jerry Dandridge in Fright Night. Also, he plays Prince Humperdink in The Princess Bride.
"They're coming to get you, Barbara" is good, too, until you realize the context
Also, "Kung Fu this, b!tch", is my personal favorite
Lol sounds like something I would've done 😈
Definitely watch all the Chucky movies and the TV series
The first Child's Play had legitimate scares! This is how we reacted watching it in the 80's.
1:02 You know what to do Samantha! Get a chucky doll and a spider and put it under his seat!
I remember seeing LOTR: 2T in the theater and I yelled out "This IS the end, friend!" when I saw Mr. Douriff. Maybe 4 people chuckled.
This movie ranked at #93 in the 100 scariest movie moments on Bravo, cool reaction as always Schmitt & Samantha, you both take care and Happy Halloween 🎃
cool! which moment did they mention specifically? happy Halloween!
@@nightmaster5593 I'm just giving facts about a special that aired on Bravo in October 2004, 100 scariest movie moments but it's early for Halloween though, that's about it
@@nightmaster5593 it was when Chucky attacked Karen. They also showed rare behind the scenes photos as well.
@@rodgill9376 You're absolutely correct
Love the Childs Play series. The second one is my favorite of all of them. Back in 2008 a bunch of friends and I went on vacation to Florida and we stayed in a villa. One of our friends staying there invited someone over one night to hang out that ended up being Alex Vincent. As a big Chucky fan, I was definitely caught off guard by that. Haha.
OMG TBR, the car scene had me rolling lol - Sam's reaction to you was priceless
“This is the end friend” what a savage line
another fun fact: chris sarandon was initially not wanted by the studio. The director, tom holland, basically had to threaten to walk from the project if sarandon was not cast. In addition to directing, holland also starred, wrote, and directed my favorite stephen king adaptation, The Langoliers.
I wonder who the studio wanted instead!
@@nightmaster5593 can' remember. i just watched a really long interview with sarandon on the inside of you podcast. can't recall if he mentioned it.
@@mparantha cool! I'll let ya know if I find out... now I'm very curious! Sarandon is great
6:22 The friend is Dinah Manoff, she was on a sitcom in the late 80's to early 90's called 'Empty Nest'. And Andy's mom is Catherine Hicks from '7th Heaven'.
I had a “My Buddy” as a kid 😅 I think it predates Chucky by a few years.
Chucky is absolutely based on "My Buddy" in my opinion.
I don't think the creator ever said so , but the similarity is spot on.
Man for me the creepiest moment was at the end when Chucky says "hi I'm Chucky...wanna plaaaaayyyyyyyyy" 😱😨 But yeah you guys should totally check out the rest of the child's play movies and the Chucky series 😈😎👍
The cop was on fright night
There's another 80s classic campy horror movie called GHOULIES where a little goblin came out of the toilet while some guy was poopin' and bit him. That scarred my mind as a kid. Lol
She enjoys your suffering LOL.
You wouldn't like me when I'm angry."
Please consider Child's Play 2 and Bride of Chucky.
LOL!! “It’s not good that they split up” hahahaha!! Eddie left his ass behind bro
“Hi I’m Chucky wanna play?” Dolls (1987), Puppet Master (1989) and Demonic Toys (1992) are some horror movie recommendations about killer toys for y’all
Yes to all of those, but especially Puppet Master!
Puppet Master has 12 official films, 1 unofficial film, 1 reboot film, 1 spin-off film and another spin-off film to be released very soon.
Demonic Toys has 5 official films, 1 unofficial film and another official film to be released very soon.
Dolls freaked me out.
@@MLJ7956 Wow, 5 Demonic Toys movies?
Demonic Toys
Dollman Vs. Demonic Toys
Puppet Master Vs. Demonic Toys Demonic Toys 2
Baby Oopsie Daisy
I didn't realize there were THAT many
@@Generic_Man I love the Puppet Master movies but anything after 5 is not my cup of tea
This has to be based off the My Buddy dolls that were popular in the mid 80s.
Glad you two truly enjoy this classic movie, and how much I enjoyed the original Child's Play movie how Charles Lee Ray became the killer doll also this ain't no typical Toy Story movie.
20:19 The look on Samantha's face when she saw Chucky climbing the stairs is hilarious. 😂😂😂😂
damn thats so cool you guys are now reacting to this, the best time to get into this franchise now that the show is in full throttle :D this is the best slasher franchise that constantly keeps evolving and reinventing itself, I hope you go through it all that would be a great time :)
She doesn't tell anyone in her church group that he's played a demonic killer doll for 30+ years* 🤣🤣🤣
"Your friend is dead. You ok?"
LOL.
The battery reveal scene is one of the all time horror moments of my childhood OMG 😳😳😳👌🏻😱😭!!!!!
Definitely check out Child's Play 2 and 3. They ramp it up a little more with the dark comedy.
My mom usually just watched BBC period dramas back in the day, but for some reason she loved the Chucky trilogy and thought he was hilarious. I was too young for the R rated versions but she taped the TV versions for us to watch. Good memories.
a living toy and the boy's name is andy...... seems familiar.
This is one of the few film series where every entry is written and/or directed by the same person. Don Mancini wrote all 7 movies, and the tv show.
