Van Richten’s Guide to Ravenloft contains a horrific assortment of creatures within it's monstrous bestiary. Joe Starr, Amy Dallen and Saige Ryan discuss the importance of monsters in horror and what kinds of monsters they would like to see in the upcoming book.

I would say Mummies. I ran Desert of Desolation back in the day. Never had the chance to run or play Ravenloft but I had a copy of the original.
I would have to say Styrix the Night Hag and her Rift Spanner. 2nd would be the Deep Spawn, Master (Lovecraftian Deep One like) and the Minions; slugs that crawl ashore and burrow into victims brain. They throw the host into the sea for the Master to feed upon.
To be honest I was scared and worried when I heard about the previous talent leaving D&D Beyond since I had become a big fan of their work. BUT I have very quickly fallen in love with the new talent I've seen recently. Joe and Amy are killin it!!! I love your energy and humor. Amy's smile is infectious and Joe has been a great MC. Saige is also incredibly entertaining and knowledgeable. I would love to see Saige become a regular. Thank you all for what you're doing for our community.
In terms of rather minor creatures that I think could be good dark lords, I'd actually go kuo-toa over bullywug. An insane, evil race that creates its own gods out of random garbage, and then *makes those gods real through sheer force of their belief in them.* That's a ridiculous power for a type of humanoid that maxes out at CR6 to have. Imagine a pair of warring factions of kuo-toa, each making successively more powerful gods to try to eradicate the other, with the party stuck in the middle. The rules of the domain are almost constantly altering as new gods are born and begin to impose their will, and the party has to adapt to the changes as they no longer can assume anything that is true today will be true tomorrow. Really potent for psychological horror IMO.
Saige being the new lore giver for beyond would be nice
This video for whatever reason fell through the cracks and didn't go out to the main feed. It's a shame because it's a great video and definitely building my hype for this new book. The new team is doing a top notch job and their content deserves to be seen.

It's a little funny; one of my players runs her own campaign, and she pitted her group against a bunch of zombies, and they steamrolled all but one of them, who succeeded their Undead Fortitude check over *20* times...
Also, unrelated but I'm going to throw this out there: I am *SO* looking forward to getting this book and making the Dread Domain of Stepford...
EDIT: Oh god, I keep forgetting this other one: A dread domain that revolves around *Mimics*...
Amy is one of my favorite people to watch on UA-cam, She is always so excited and her enthusiasm is infectious. I have actually started to watch these videos because of her and Joe's interactions.
Kaiju fighting:
Rodan = Phoenix
Godzilla = Blue Dragon (no flight, swim speed instead)
King Kong = Empyrean with no spells
Mecha-Godzilla = Warforged Titan
Zaratan (+ fly speed) = Gamora...
quick research does not yield a Mothra or a King Gidora (Tarrasque with fly, three hydra heads, and breath weapon?) but I”m sure you can do them
A mindflayer domain would be pretty cool with different hive minds going at each other vying for dominance. Or a sphinx domain that is so ordered and structured it's oppressive.

They had a mind flayer domain in 2e. Called Bluetspur. There was a module called "Thoughts of Darkness" So, it might be in the guide.
I have an idea where a party goes through a few domains of dread, killing or freeing the darklords. Throughout the encounter the carnival domain of dread 4 times, each time the sense of "we need to be on the move, it's coming." , keeps reoccurring. As it turns out an ancient cosmic horror is feeding off of the dread and sorrow from all of the domains of dread and the party.......... has been killing off its food source.
They did a battle on Aquisitions Inc many years ago where they get inside a walking statue mech and fight the Terrasque!
You could make a Domain ruled Bullywugs and Slaadi, teaming with lizardmen and sahuagin.
Hm, a lamia could be a pretty cool creature to create a domain around.
I seem to recall Chris Perkins Running Terrasque as Kaiju in Acquisitions Incorporated there was a Hallister mech.
For the love of all things holy, I hope this book has an Index and Appendices. Candlekeep Mysteries doesn't and it makes the analog copy way more difficult to use, constantly flipping through the book trying to find the stat block you're looking for. If anything, the lack of reference Index/Appendices only further advances the advantage of purchasing these books online. Just find everything you need through the SEARCH bar on DnDBeyond and be done with it.

I'm actually in the process of writing a horror based campaign with Universal style monsters! And funny enough I got the idea to do this before this book was even announced lol so I can't wait to get some more ideas from it.
Same, I had it on the backburner for a while now but this new content sounds promising enough to add to it and make it my next Westmarch setting.
I've considered an Oblex campaign BBEG in the past, with the ability to either totally sever projections from its body, or at least pop out lesser Oblex to send places.
But now...Oblex world boyz! Every day you're in a new domain of dread! Except not! Or maybe you roll on a table for each day! 100 on the roll and you end up in "Super Nice and Happy Land".
Would now probably be seen as a WandaVision riff, I always have bad timing.
Imagine instead of the typical D&D Mimic it's the terrifying Darksouls Mimic or there could be a hospital run by a mad scientist or a cult.

My current concept I'm working on is to make a campaign where the primary threat is the awakening of ancient collosal constructs called the Dragon Temples, which you have to get into, explore, poke and prod and take control, all while the dragon tries to stop you, including smaller constructs, puzzles, traps, automated defenses like turrets, and a 3d dungeonscape similar to the Divine Beasts from Breath of The Wild!

if i made my own domain it's master would be a Demilich with a helmed horror body. it would be a surprise once the party fights it and realize the predicament they are now in. maybe they think it is a death knight up until that point

They were talking about Bullywugs I'm pretty sure. Grung are the playable Race.

But apparently on double checking the MM pg35 basically describes the same thing.... which I find super disappointing, not because I'm wrong but because they were so lazy that they just made the same race twice.....

What is the difference between cosmic and eldritch horror?
Not a DM myself but that Kaiju Idea gave me an idea.
Maybe your adventurers are researchers, cultists or just unfortunate sops pulled by fate/compulsion as they have to survive a ruined world filled with giant monsters. Some ancient and benevolent, only destroying because its in the way. Others malevolent and eldritch, with beards filled with seeking tentacles set on feeding its hunger. Having the players have to deal with cultists worshipping these incomprehensible god beasts and fighting off the unknowable parasites that live off of them. Maybe one time they have to warn a village of an incoming kaiju, or maybe two are locked in an eternal battle and the resulting parasites are slowly fleeing to attack villages because they're homes are now uninhabitable due to the clashing. As for stats then the tarrasque, ancient dragons, purple worm and other gargantuans seem like the go-to. Sounds like an absolute nightmare (for both players and gm) but definitely has nuance.
(Ya'll feel free to steal this idea if you want! I don't mind, as long as you have fun and everyone you play with does too!)
No appendices so you have to search through whole book for monsters and magic items. Ugh.

Chupacabra turned out to be bugs eating the corpses, in a way that looked like claw slash marks. Might be fun to let your monster turn into a swarm...
I'm hoping that they put out the age categories for vampires. Thereby, giving you customization options to make them even more dangerous to players...
NotSaige should look into running a game set in MTG Ikoria for similar Kaiju monsters
Hm, giant monsters so big they are also treated as terrain and events. I like it. oooh, or a domain of dread that is a giant monster.

Man, I am just not as into this dynamic as the previous team. Maybe some art work to help focus their discussions more would help. Or a stricter script? I am just missing the less random rambling of the old team.
Edit: theres nothing wrong about the people here. They are fine, it's just that it feels less... cohesive? Again, maybe it's the script or something.
