Thank you for this! I planted about 6 dianthus this year. Now the flowers are getting brown. I didn’t know what to do. Now I know!
Thank you for this tip I have several of them to do that too today. Take care and God Bless
Thank you for that! We just had the shortest day and it’s 4c although sunny! But will keep this so I don’t forget how!
Nice.
Nice to know! I’ve only grown dianthus like once or twice.
I have Dainthus coronation ❤ hardy perennial x will they actually come back every year? I really wish they do...
Thanks for this video. Just wondering what to do with my irises now that their blooms are gone. Thanks!!
I live in Pennsylvania and I have not done any deadheading or trimming for my flower however I want to properly prepare it for the winter. I’m assuming I’ll need to cut it like you did in the video?
I also saw how I can just takeoff the dead flowers. So my question is, when should I do the different types of cutting down? Do I just remove the dead flowers after they bloom in the spring so I can see more in August, and then completely cut down the flower before winter?
Thanks in advance!
typically the best time to do that sort of cleaning is around the date of the first frost. most of the perennials will be shocked from the cold and will turn black and yucky. thats your cue to remove the top foliage and flowers. but also check out my recent video about deadheading i made for more tips
Have you ever heard of the Chelsea chop. It’s been around for decades
Yes. This is slightly different from Chelsea chop bc you do the CC prior to flowering to push flower time back
Hey, just found this, perfect timing. My 3 year old Dianthus are stunning, but was wondering. Is it also beneficial to individually clip off dead flowers as they occur until giving it the big haircut?
You absolutely can do that, although it can be tedious. I normally just do it all at once
@@plantvibrations Definitely tedious. Your method is preferred, but I might trim here and there also just to clean it up until the big mid season "haircut". just wasn't sure if there was any plus or minus to the individual deadhead. Thank You
Bought my first dianthus early this season. Could you tell me what the yellow star shaped flowers next to it are?

Which month you do this and would they gonna flower again in same season?
You can do it as soon as the flowers turn brown and they will re flower 6 weeks later
sorry but when is the best time to prune this plants?, i leave in Dallas Texas
Perfect timing!! I was just outside looking at my dianthus thinking I hope you’ll make a video on how to prune them.
Thank you!
