UGH, quit petting him, lady! I don't understand why people think it's EVER ok to reach down and pet a strange dog! No matter how friendly you think they are, that's just NOT smart! Thanks for sharing! Gemini, my Service Dog, doesn't fit under things very well anymore (joys of a Great Dane as a Service Dog, but he's AMAZING).
Shanda Vander Ark wow! A great Dane as a service dog. I love it. Although I might have some trouble getting him on the bus. Even York and I together don’t fit in a bus seat. Thanks for watching and have a great day!
@@stevefoxyorktheguidedog4350 Absolutely, love watching! Yeah, he's big, but Great Danes are an AMAZING breed! He actually has his own UA-cam channel, if you ever want to listen. I narrate most of the videos from his perspective, partially because I thought it was a cool way to do it, but partially also to help those that can't see the videos well (or at all). I'm still working to improve the narration as far as specifics (instead of, "this is how I flop," actually describe it better), but it's fun to do and a great distraction from law school at times!
@@stevefoxyorktheguidedog4350 WOW, I actually meant to share the link before, sorry, law school mushy brain! ua-cam.com/channels/5OIC-vkzABYKDen74AbeUA.html - that's it! "Law School Through a Service Dog's Eyes" is the name of it!
Shanda Vander Ark I have the same issue with my adit (golden retriever named Murphy). Constantly have people patting, calling out, and asking what he does for me (this one makes me very uncomfortable as I don’t like to talk about my conditions with random strangers), Drives me insane. I’ve even had people making barking sounds at hit from across the shops.
Thanks for watching. And thanks for the words of encouragement from another Guide Dog handler. Give your Guide Dog Corey a hug from me. Have a great day!
Omg find a seat has hilarious results sometimes. I've seen guide dogs take their handler to occupied seats and ny assistance dog now takes it upon herself to find a seat on the bus when I don't want her to, just cuz I taught her to do it she thinks she's always supposed to, so I'll be trying to go up the back and she's like 'ooh let's go in here!' 🤣
York is always trying to make new friends for me. Even in a completely empty restaurant. He will try to sit me close to somebody. He's very social. Ha ha. Thanks for watching. Have a great day!
Christopher Millhouse yes it was very busy. With lots of people out and about. And York did a great job of not getting too distracted. He’s pretty good around people. Although he can be distracted if somebody dropped something to eat on the floor. That’s a tough one. Anyway thanks for watching. Glad you liked the video. Have a great day!
BirdNerdSophie yes he is amazing. He did a great job. He gives me so much freedom. Anyway thanks for watching and I’m glad you liked the video. Have a great day!
Yeh the woman who gave him a pat on the head I think was a genuine mistake, she seemed lovely ❤ I often get people admit they know not to touch working dogs then touch my dog anyway
Hi Steve really enjoyed your conversation explaining about how vision loss can be isolateing This is a very timely video for me because I had to discuss this with a friend myself just the other day I am vision impaired and I am lucky that I have enough eyesight to be able to walk freely into rooms and navigate most situations on my own with very few limitations My biggest issue is recognising people knowing where people are and sometimes yes getting confused communications with people due to not being able to see someone’s face all that well Video gets some positive reaction and good circulation thank you
Minus Melanin I am really glad that you liked the video. And yes he is a good boy. Although I shouldn’t say it too much, I don’t want him to get a big head. Ha ha. Anyway thanks for watching. And have a great day!
Nicole Kada yes he is pretty special. And like you York and I tackle the escalators. I just have my little buddy to help me. Thanks for watching. And have a great day!
what a great team you and York are. I loved listening to this, is sounded really busy for sure. Its incredible how you navigate like that. As you know, Myself and Spencer haven't done anything like that yet together - but I am so excited for the day that we do ( and nervous too haha) . As always Steve, such. great video and so lovely to watch x best wished to you, york and your wife
Low-Vision UK - Terry's View yes it was pretty busy. And York did a great job of getting us around safely. I’m sure that you and Spencer will be doing the same soon. It will change your life. Thanks again for watching. Cheers!
Lil Fish Brain thanks. I’m glad you liked the videos. I better get something happening. I have been a bit slack lately. The weather has been pretty miserable here and it’s hard to get inspired. But York and I had better get back into production soon. Cheers. And have a great day!
Hi, Did York get some water while you had your coffee? He is so cute. I am waiting for a guide dog as I am legally blind as well. I Love your videos! From 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
York is going great. I really need to make some more videos. As far as his water goes. I always make sure he gets his first. I’m really glad you are getting on Guide Dog. Hopefully it works out just as well for you as it has for me. York definitely takes me places that I wouldn’t be going otherwise. All the best. And thanks for watching. Have a great day!
It still blows my mind that people think it’s okay to pat a guide dog! They’re so obviously guide dogs. I understand people get confused with different breed assistance dogs (they think my mini foxie ADiT is just a cute little dog) but my goodness guides dogs are so bloody obvious!
Emma Pickering if I had noticed at the time I would’ve talk to her. I do normally take the time to educate people if I can. But I really didn’t notice until somebody pointed it out until afterwards. Thanks for watching. Have a great day. Cheers!
Steve Fox & York the Guide Dog I sometimes like to take the time to explain to people about assistance dogs, but sometimes I don’t have enough “spoons” to do so. And it really shouldn’t always have to be on us. Maybe if the government ran an ad campaign or something saying the dos and donts of interacting with assistance and guide dogs that would be amazing. I absolutely love your videos and please keep them coming!
Seeing Blind thanks for watching. I’m glad you like the video. That big shopping centre is about 20 minutes from where I live. I also live in a very small town. But we still have a few shops there. It is good to have somewhere to walk to when you have a guide dog. Anyway thanks again. I’m glad you like the video. Have a great day!
Good on you mate, sounds like it was a very successful trip. Oh the Grandel duke of York, he has no distractions, he marched right up to the escalator and he marched right back again. Wish I had the confidence to go to a big city shopping center on my own. I wouldn’t do it before all of this craziness begun and I will definitely not do it now. I’m too much of a simple, boring, country bogan. However, I am looking forward to taking my girl to our big shopping center again one day soon, when it is necessary. As for that lady, petting him on the head, that drives me nuts! I get very frustrated when people interfere with my dog, as you may know. I don’t mind people watching us, if they come and interrupt me though, it stresses me out.
Mel’s Blind Life It was a fun day. As far as having no distractions. I wish that were true. Dropped food and crumbs on the floor and his weakness. But we are working on it. Like always say he’s very special. He is amazing. But he’s not perfect. And he’s not a robot. We did have some fun though getting out and exploring. Thanks for watching. Cheers!
I couldn’t think of anything else at the time that the grand old juke of York had At the time, no distractions just fitted haha. As for my little girl, I can’t actually give her food reward for anything, if she knew that I had kibble on my person at any time she would not work, she would just bend to my pocket and wait for me to give her the treat. I really have to use pets and positive words with this one.
Very awesome video Steve! I struggle to with these barricades with my cane. Something that we have to get used to most definitely! Next time you and York go for coffee. Try giving York a puppuccino. It's a small plastic cup of whipped cream. He was looking into camera and his face looked as if he says where is mine! Hahaha thanks for the video and sharing! Blessings!
Paul's Blind Soup for the Soul thanks. I’m glad you liked the video. It was a bit of fun. Even if it is a challenge with all the new obstacles. I think you’re right. It’s just something we need to get used to. And York says yes. He agrees with you. Where’s my papa chino. Cheers!

I'm only familiar with Guide Dogs for vision loss. I'm not really sure about service dogs for balance. But I would suggest I would talk to your local guide dog school. They will definitely have more information. All the best. And thanks for watching. Have a great day!

As a blind/vision impaired person are there changes to card payment terminals that would make them more accessible? Im thinking there is a lot of trust that is placed onto the operator to put in the correct amount to be charged. I know as a person with disabilities ive been very cautious of payment terminals that i cant see easily that the correct amount has been input, as ive had attempts from others to charge incorrect amounts, sometimes it accidental others its on purpose, either input too much or too little. Ps if/when you pay by card will your phone tell you the amout that has been deducted from your account/card? Would this be helpful or a hinderence also pending location could you see this causing other problems?
There definitely needs to be a lot of trust. Luckily where I live I’ve have never had a problem. But it would be better if the terminals had an audio function. That would read the dollar amount out to you. That would definitely help. Thanks for watching. Cheers!
