Excited to watch Broberg next season. He really emerged as a very reliable defenceman this postseason.
Broberg and Holloway are two young guys who started to emerge this postseason
@@_roko_ yep those are the two to keep 100% of the RFA's
Broberg I thought was a good d-man that was mismanaged badly by Holland and Co.
@@swen1208 I would also love to see Ben Gleason in the lineup opening night. He won his place by stellar play in the preseason then was sent down and forgotten about. I am hopeful because he was practising with the big club for the playoff run.
@@darrenh6169 im a wings fan and I sometimes watch Oilers just to see Ken Holland fail badly.
I fuckin hate him so much for his shit management from 2013-2018. And he brought his shit prospect management to Edmonton.
Edmonton lost when they went down to 2 lines the last 11 minutes have to find a couple of grit guys to get back
agreed
This is why they should have kept Bjugstad over Mcleod, but they opted for Mcleod.
Losing Kane was pretty rough even though his injury was apparent in the first series.
The team has done something like that a lot, and done alright with it. It's common practice to some degree. Drai and McD play long consecutive minutes stretches and they do it because they score a fair bit.
@@VexJinks That would be hindsight. McLeod is a young, Oilers homegrown guy on affordable contracts whose potential wasn't even known yet.
Keep Perry until we win western conference finals next year, and then immediately drop him after.
I wish we did that 😔
My theory is that Perrys curse and the 'No canadian team has won a cup' curses combined together now, and now one of them will win the cup next year. Either the Oilers or Perry is without curse now.
@@rantanen1oh like either a Canadian team or Perry wins it? I’m down but I’d take any Canadian team over the Oilers.
@@rantanen1 dont forget the drake curse, 2 would have cancelled out but 3 is too much
Keep him to not win again next year.
I do think Edmonton has the capability to be champions. Their depth really did show up in the finals. Maybe with some small trades they could find themselves with another opportunity. They truly gave it their all in these playoffs
They really did, just unfortunate that they were gassed by game 7. Coming back from that 3-0 was stunning but most definitely exhausting. They’ll need to avoid that in any future playoffs they enter.
@@vinokai That's a great point that nobody is talking about. Not a lot of people are stating how hard it really is to comeback even harder in the final.
@@bigleaguesnipes probably because people are quick to dismiss the Oilers since they didn’t pull off the Reverse Sweep, instead of acknowledging the fact that they even came back from a 3-0 loss in a Stanley Cup Finals.
Oilers got nothing to be ashamed of they gave us a great effort Gg Edmonton
It was one hell of a run that we had
Agreed. I’m a flames fan and I loved watching a Canadian team with so many Canadian players really giving us some hope for a cup by a city in this country.
@@mcthunderstick2374 met some flames fans that couldnt wait to make us feel worse lol
@@mcthunderstick2374 sorry I'm a Flames fan and I just can't. I found myself cheering for them in 2006 as underdogs but with all these number 1 picks I just can't.
@@mcthunderstick2374 Same here. From an Habs fan. I am even buying an Oilers jersey. That was a great run and I was impressed by the team. A couple of goals away from bringing the cup back to Canada.
Seravalli and Bob Stauffer sound confident negotiations have already begun and McDavid, Draisaitl, and Bouchard will sign extensions totaling $40m.
Our top line is set. Holloway will re-sign and play with Draisaitl. Kane may need to be traded for a winger who can score goals to play with Drai and Holloway. Hopefully we can re-sign Brown and Janmark, Henrique probably costs too much to keep. Maybe Nuge can centre that 3rd line but we'd need another winger for McDavid.
Nurse has a NMC so we're stuck with that contract. Campbell will be bought out for $3m more cap space. We'll probably re-sign Pickard and roll with Skinner+Pickard.
I'm confident we can get the roster sorted and make another push in 24/25.
Oilers line-up coming into next playoff run
Nuge - McDavid - Hyman
DeBrusk - Draisaitl - Buchnevich
McLeod - Henrique - Holloway
Janmark - Ryan (or other cheap 4C) - Brown
Ekholm - Bouchard
Nurse - Carrier
Broberg - Desharneis (or other cheap 6D if Vinny doesn´t sign with you)
Skinner
Pickard
Bought Campbell out or traded him with 1.5 mil retained and a sweetener (if there is a taker). Moved Kane, Ceci, and Kulak as cap dumps. Let Foegele walk. Signed DeBrusk and Carrier as FAs this summer. Buchnevich TDL rental acquisition with 75% retained. Re-signed Henrique, Holloway, Broberg, Janmark, and Brown.
This felt like Edmonton's best chance and I think it's going to be a rough go now. They only have one more season of the McDrai core realistically and it will be really hard for them to make up for that.
Imagine if they had Markstrom last 3 yrs?
Draitsaitl is propably signing in Edmonton. They get 2 mil of the books in 2025-26 season when his contract kicks in. Cap also rises 3-4 mil so that covers Draisaitl raise more than easy.
25 games, 63 days. Shame it ended in a game 7 SC by 1 goal. But what a wild & wonderful ride it was! They’ll be back!
"We mustn't judge too harshly, Will. It was his first time."
Thanks for the video, Shannon. A bright spot in an otherwise bleak and hungover day lol
At least yall didn’t burn down your city like Vancouver would have 🤣
A few adjustments, not major moves. I think the guys have to really work on getting into the game / series right from the start so as not to get behind and end up chasing.
I wouldn't break my neck looking for another goalie. I think Skinner will be just fine. He's not perfect yet; he's still got some work to do, but it's not at all uncommon for newer goalies to take a few years to really hit their stride. He's showing steady improvement and he's a known quantity now so I think there's a lot to be said for stability and continuity.
If the deal of a lifetime falls on their lap then sure, go for it, but I wouldn't be nervous at all about starting next year with Skinner and Pickard, especially with Rodrigue and Fanti in the pipeline.
Brown, Janmark, Henrique need to stay. Broberg will be a regular, and hopefully Holloway progresses.
Henrique is a pure rental, even though he's 34 he just matched his career high in points in a season and got paid 5.825 million to do so. He won't be in much of a mood to take a steep pay cut so that Edmonton can retain him.
@@JakeJ.-yi1du he is 34. No one at that age gets paid for what they did in the past. He is 2.5 at most.
@@rona6063 He's not getting 5.8 again for sure, but even at 2.5 he probably is a luxury the Oilers can't afford
Their top defenseman in nurse will be their weakest link. His stats and performance during the playoffs as a $9 million man is unacceptable. Someway somehow get rid of nurse and the team greatly improves
He's not their top defenceman. He's their 3rd best dman, he's just their highest paid defenceman
@@michaelkeller5927 that's my point. He's paid as a top dman and he's outperformed by the rookie
Run it back as close as possible. Bouchard hit the post. It’s a game of inches. Maybe buy out Campbell and try to dump nurse’s contract and then hope that the cap goes up by infinity for 2027.
Not even an Oilers fan and I can't bring myself to watch this yet
The oilers need to trade kulak and ceci for cap space. Sign someone like Alex carrier in free agency. They prob should trade away Kane too as he isn’t worth 5 million. And bring back some of their depth like janmark and brown. Also figure out what the hell you do with campbell
Kane being injured was a big deal for the Oilers, he can absolutely still make a difference in the playoffs, especially against a team like the Panthers if he's injured. That contract is still value.
And get rid of Kane, CiCi, Campbell, and make Useless Nurse take a pay cut.
@@cindyrussell1581Shame they cant take a paycut e
I suspect McDavid will be willing to sign at somewhat of a discount... Not cheap, mind you, but I'd guess at this point he cares more about winning than about making $16m/yr. Drai and Nurse seem like the bigger question marks to me
It's possible both mcdavid and drai would leave a bit on the table to play for cups together but I can't see them leaving much .It's a harsh reality but perhaps 5-7 % of what they could or should make somewhere else .There comes a point in a hard cap world where the team management, scouting and so on must earn their pay and find players of good value at bargain prices and make some hard decisions on moving or buying out players in order to compete for a cup ,the easiest window to win a cup is wide open this year and next ,after that it's only bound to get harder.
I have a feeling the price to have someone take Campbell is not going to be exorbitant. Lots of teams with the cap space for those 3 years. Possibly even a smaller bad contract coming back on a potential roster player, like say Goodrow.
First that Dragon logo is AWESOME.
The Draisaitl situation isn’t an emergency… he’s still under contract. Draisaitl is a TERRIBLE defensive center and is a pass interception machine. Great scorer and face off guy… when he isn’t getting thrown out of the circle. I think he ends up splitting time at center and wing. I’m predicting 8x11.5m or 6x13m extension.
The goalie situation is confounding… you gotta move or buyout that Campbell contract… and if you do what is the cost? I agree that ideally Skinner is playing 45-50g.
The #1 order of business is another right shot winger who can score. Victor Arvidsson would be my main target. Plus because of how many games he missed you I think you can push a huge chunk of his contract in bonuses.
I really hope Janmark and Brown stay… they were DYNAMITE in the final…
Drai is a beast defensively, takes all the pivotal defensive zone draws. The broken finger and broken rib definitely explains why he was so ineffective in the final on draws and didn't have a great shot. Drai easily gets more than Matthews for his contract if he wants it.
@@Marixa1979 His face off ability is elite, but otherwise he is a gigantic liability on defence. IMO the issue goes back to his ankle injury a couple years ago. Ever since he’s been a middling fore and back checker, but he rarely skates the puck out of his own zone through the neutral zone and instead keeps trying for low percentage passes, which often end up being intercepted. Last year it was really bad as he would often give up the puck in the defensive zone. This year it was a bit better, but would often give it up in the neutral zone.
As the playoffs went on his defensive game got a bit better, but along with the injuries it came at the cost of his offensive game.
I think fans have rose coloured glasses with regards to Draisaitl. I still want him to stay, but I think he has far more value primarily as a winger than a center.
The penalty for buying out Campbell actually isn't that bad.
@@mannyoliveira776 on a 2-on-1 he is an amazing passer… but anyone who throws the puck away as much as he does in the neutral zone is a defensive liability. I’m talking about the player he is now, not the player he was two or three years. I think the player he is now *is* valuable, but primarily as a winger who takes face offs, but positionally plays the wing with RNH or McDavid as primary backchecker. Draisaitl centering two natural wingers would be a disaster.
@@VexJinks Yeah, it’s about 1m next season and peaks around 2m but it’s still something they’ll have to live with for a while… Holland tends to try to trade bad contracts. It’ll definitely cost a 2nd plus a prospect or two..,
Kane played through the entire season with a sports hernia. He needs surgery to get it repaired. Expecting more out of him next season.
i wouldnt .
Sadly thats 2 seasons that they should have LTIR him and taken advantage of the extra 5 million in cap space. I wonder if it's team morals or kanes ego preventing this both times. I like the guy and when he was healthy he was a great fit, but that seems a long time ago now.
@@vincemedak9734 What are you talking about? He was a complete monster last season. So make Kane haters. I don't get it anymore. it's been a long time since he's had a bad PR moment. Is this just racism at this point?
@thaddcorbett2148 what are you talking about?
I was a big supporter of giving kane a second chance as I believe he is not only older and more mature but also, being on a team where he knows he's not the best player may help him curb his ego a little and that has proven to be true. He has turned his personal life around and is a benifit to the community around him in edmonton. You are the one bringing up race and his past PR so maybe you should look in the mirror for the racist before you start slinging those stones.
Having said all that, Kane WAS a monster in the first half season he was with the oilers but has never been the same player that shut tckachuk down in the playoffs, since the wrist Injury. They should have LTIR him the first trade deadline after he came back to soon, when he sat out a few games for an injury and they should have done the same this season when, by his own words he has dealt with a sports hernia since November. It's a business. I'd take a rusty kane at close to 100% health plus and extra 5 million in deadline acquisitions during the playoffs, over a kane at 40%, who ends up sitting out the last 3 games of the Stanley cup finals.
I don't know why he didn't get the surgery and put in LTIR but it was a mistake that probably could have given the oilers the cup had it been handled differently.
He mays well have had surgery in season when the injury occurred. He was useless in the playoffs, and ultimately scratched in the finals.
Jack Cambell traded with 50% retention? Unload Evander Kane for prospects and/or draft picks? Add some grit? Hiw long will they have Henrique and Perry?
The Oilers could use a bit of youthful exuberance.half of Jack Campbell's contract might create cap space to retain some players.
You'd get a better cap hit if you buyout Campbell vs 50% retention. A healthy Kane is worth his contract, solid physical winger with 20-30 goal potential. I hope that 3rd line returns.
I just don’t see how Edmonton will be able to afford Draisaitl next summer if Campbell’s contract and Nurse’s contract are still on the books.
Oilers will still be a good team next season, but I think this past week was their best shot.
I thought we got a new franchise called Alberta oil flaming dragon or sth by the look of that magnet. Looks cool though.
For me Broberg and Holloway are filling for a few needs that we have and we can get Brown and Janmark back most likely 1 year deals, buy out Campbell Ceci is gone if we can trade Kane that would help.
It would take a miracle (trading Campbell and/or Nurse) for the Oilers to bring back a team as good as the one they had last season, with that many players to sign with that little salary cap space, and with a lot less time before free agency to get it done because they went to game 7. If they can't move out Campbell or Nurse or both, they're probably taking a step back next season, and focus on signing Draisaitl to make it even harder to have depth after that. Playing Broberg in the playoffs means they might not have enough cash to resign him and are forced to trade him. It doesn't make much sense to bury Campbell in the minors if the not much savings is washed away by now having to pay another backup goalie, but it might take more than just a 1st round draft pick to move that albatross of a contract.
Trade Nurse whatever the GM can do!!!
Nurse has a No Movement Clause, and considering Edmonton is currently a contender for a cup, he's definitely not moving himself out anytime soon. Oilers are stuck with Nurse for a longgggg time unfortunately, and will probably be in rebuild mode by the time Nurse is on his way out.
That Nurse contract is criminal.
The Nurse contract will hurt this team for the remaining years and he should know it. It will hinder any growth getting paid what two good dmen will cost. They and trade Jack and retain half to gain 2.5 million. Heck if you could trade a Nurse and retain half and get back 4.75 now you have over 7 million to fill with two good players. A Dman and a scoring forward. Look for Toffoli he’s a scorer only making 4.25 million, but brings grit and scoring. Look at Jake Debrusk also. It will be a tough summer if we don’t move some of this bad contracts and some guys are going to have to take team friendly deals like Janmark has already offered.
Can Campbell and/or Nurse be bought out? Or is that too expensive? Can you discuss this in a future video?
Campbell yes, nurse’s buyout penalty too high
I feel like Draisatl should be making more than Matthews...
Hot take: if the Oilers had Montembault they would’ve won the cup. Goaltenders isn’t everything but if the oils won game 1 or 7 by goaltending (which would be 1/7 game saved by Month, which is still below what he’s done for us) it would’ve maybe been over in game 6
Skinner is only going to get better, so I'd hang onto him.
I hope Kostin comes back.
Your missing Olivier Rodrigue, top 10 Gaa in AHL, 23 years old.
Has to have a long look at the backup job, or waivers.
I'd love to see the Oilers bringing back the Skinner Pickard tandem. However I do acknowledge that the guys in front of the net would play with even more confidence if they had a Bobrovsky kind of goalie. Bringing in a new goalie is a massive gamble. First you would need to find one who is a clear upgrade over Skinner, there is not many of those and they are extremely pricey (Nashville wanted a kings ransom for Saros even tho he had a little bit of a down year). Oddly enough one candidate that comes to mind is this "other guy" from Nashville.
Who's responsible for Nurse's contract?
I heard Holland. It's brutal. The 3 musketeers, Nurse, Kane and Campbell. 20% of the cap space.
Having klefbom develop arthritis and Larsson walking definitely didn't put the oilers in a position of strength but in the end they took a number based on Seth Jones and Hamilton and pretty much gave it to him as he was RFA and been bridged twice
Nurse -9 for the series 😆. 1 point for every million he makes to be a road cone.
Campbell, not sure if there is a market for him.Nurse there definitely is.Kane can he return to healthy form?Skinner, numbers are solid enough.Thinking a shutdown defense man and a solid 2 way forward who can score.😊
If the Oil can move on from Campbell and Nurse, they will be able to sign Bouch and Drai right away. I really feel like Nurse can be very good, but I don't see it happening in Edmonton. He'll likely be one of those guys who gets traded and is a nightmare everytime his team plays the Oilers. Campbell can be a starting goalie or a third stringer on any given night, and with Stu getting better and better and Pickard being consistent, I don't think there's a home in Edmonton for Soup.
So oilers have a 14/23 man roster as of right now and need to sign 9 guys with 10m. So pretty much they will have the same goalies, defensemen, and top 6 but lose all their bottom 6 and depth unless they trade Campbell and maybe Kane so they can kinda bring back a similar team is basically what I’m hearing lol or they can sign 9 guys to like 1.1m each to fill out their team and lose key guys like foegele, Henrique and janmark. Gonna be hard for the oilers to improve next season if they have to fill out this team with pretty much league minimum players unless they make some big moves
Best of luck
Trade Dry for Brady Tkachuk; heard he isn’t happy and has 4x8.5 $ contract. Perfect.
Kane and Toews huge contracts for BHawks killed that franchise for a decade and counting, let’s not make the same mistakes.
Send nurse as a part of the package, take chykrun as part of the trade (looming ufa) and sign him long term.
Time to change the makeup of this team. Too many tic tac dough guys and not enuff guys hard to play against.
I read that Tanner Jeanotte (sp?) may be available. 2.5 mill x 3 more years.
Say bye to Ryan, Perry , probably can’t fit Henrique $ in so bring up Hamblin. Lavoie sticks.
Use Fred cap to sign a legit top six winger. KH failed on this quest.
But the key is trading Dry . We can’t afford 35 mill to McD, Dry and Bouchard.
I would have gone with the oilers if the Rangers were in the Stanley cup finals
I had Vancouver as Stanley cup finalist
They are no joke.
The stars would have to align again for Edmonton to make the playoffs finals to get LA Van then Dallas i think any eastern conference team would love that path compared to lightning Boston then NYR.
no easy paths to the final
Boston had Charlie Coyle as their 1C. Stars were the cup favourites. What are you even yapping about. The Canucks were a damn good team this year.
They should fire Holland and hire Zito, his work in Florida is done and he seems like a guy who enjoys the building part more than actually winning it.
Dallas or Colorado will be the West team in next years final. Edmonton will be out by round 2.
I bet you said that this year too.
I think Oilers will be the favorites next year
Draisaitl deserves every penny. I hope he gets it.
They had their chance, too bad
Nobody will ever touch Wayne's 2800 points. However, McDavid may be the second man to hit 2000.
“Mcdavid is the best player in the game**”
** unless it’s in a finals game where there’s pressure on to preform
My big thing is who will be the GM? Holland is in the final year of his contract, does he retire or does ownership ask him to stay on?
Big NO to that.
Is there really a debate for who is the best in the league? I think it’s clearly McDavid.
Nurse's Stupid Salary is why the Oilers can't win a cup.
maybe wie can convice him to put him on the LTIR List like the Golden Knights do it every Year 🤣
All the players in red have to go for picks and prospects. May have to eat some of the salary. Time for some to retire. Unbeleiveable amount of roster regular ufa.
This was it for them. It’ll be back to #1 draft picks in no time.
10M cap space resign 12 players and L29 look for raised 12M
lol yakupov eeeeeeeeek
Get rid of Jack Cambell . There are many promising candidates who can be drafted or traded.
Let's say they can't deal with moving Nurse's money. Kane and Campbell's money isn't nothing. maybe you can replace Kane with a lesser light but one that would equal Kane's diminished performance. ok.
Let Perry go and focus on Henrique
Don't count on Holland.
gg
Trade mcdavid to Toronto. Retain 50% of his cap hit..
I hate Nurse with a passion soley because of how over paid he is. He is worth a third of what he is getting. To put it in perspective, Nurse is the #8 highest paid D man in the entire league.
Frank Seravalli reported that he's heard that both Draisaitl and McDavid's camps have approached the Oilers Management/Ownership to tell them they have zero interest in going elsewhere and that they want to sign a long-term extension. If Leon does sign this summer, it's a good omen for McDavid re-signing next summer
Oilers faithful here. The fact that we managed to do this with nearly 15 mil tied up in Nurse and Campbell combined is miraculous. Game 7 was such a devastating coin flip, the real lesson this team needs to take with them is how to play like demons à-la games 4-6, but in games 1-3 next year when they’re back. You can’t go down 3-0 and expect to win. Not the recipe for success. Amazing they pushed it to 7. Such a pendulum swinging series. More trust needs to be put in Holloway and Broberg. Nurse needs to get away this summer and collect himself mentally, and be ready for his best season yet. McDavid and Drai need to heal their wounds and they will obviously come back swinging next season. This experience was invaluable for Skinner. See how Kane fares post surgery and then we can decide to deal him at the deadline if we need. Ship Campbell with a 1st if we need to. We absolutely need that space for a middle six forward or 6th or 7th d man. Bourgault needs to play on the nhl roster. McLeod should be traded. End of rant.
no need to ship campbell out for a first, we can buy him out. It isn't going to cost us much.
@@nathanpoon Yeah, it'd save a decent amount and he isn't playing in the NHL again.
Well said.. I would add and like to see nurse gone… imo he is a second pairing defenseman at best, and obviously way overpaid. Given the oikers continual issue with cap space and looming big guns re-signing, they should seriously look at dealing him.
Broberg looked solid/ quite impressive really and I think actually helped nurses +\- numbers after stepping in the Dallas series in such a huge spot… he looked quite poised out there.
@@robclark9893 nurse isn’t leaving. No one is gonna take that contract. Unless we trade him for a player and eat some salary. If we trade him for let’s say a 6m defenseman and we retain 3m it might be worth it. That way at least we get a 6 mil dman…nurse looks lost half the time. I think Ceci is gonna go as well.
@@nathanpoon yeah, wishful thinking on my part
Its only going to get harder to make it out of the west even, Vancouver probably isnt going anywhere and we know Vegas isnt and if you make the finals you have either Dallas or Colorado waiting for you, the West is just a meat grinder at this point.
Edmonton is in the toughest place you can be for a team. Being close. They have lost to the last 3 cup winners, with two of those being in the conference finals and cup finals.
And yet Oilers were actually the more skill team in all these matchups. I now believe in bad luck as to why Oilers were not champions for the past 3 seasons.
@@archimedes2261 I mean. The Avs swept them. That's not luck
Edmonton will come back better. Another goalie would have helped. Skinner taking till Game 4 to get going every series makes for a tough path to the Cup. Extra games increases fatigue and injuries
@@archimedes2261 Bruh!!! They got pasted by the Avs. And in these finals, had their teeth punched early, and had to dig out. That is not luck.
Its amazing how far they got without getting any production from Drai for pretty much the last 2 rounds. McD can't do it all on his own without his wingman, and a bunch of 3rd/4th liners. Did Kane even play in the finals? And Darnell Nurse, OUCH!!!!
He played the first couple games then missed one because of injury I think. He could've played games 5 and 6 but the line up was crushing without him so he sat for the rest of the series.
Think Kane got hurt in either Game 1 or Game 2, but he wasn't in the lineup for Game 7 where they could have used his grit. Nurse was also injured early in the series, but I guess not as severe as Kane's.

Nurse makes 9 mil? 😳. That contract will be an anchor.
Easily the most overpaid player in the NHL.
Nah that’s Seth Jones. Nurse is a close second though
See if Arizona Coyotes will take the contract.
It is. It is something Oilers fans have been talking about for a long time now. Unfortunately it was horrible timing when he was signed. Our number 1 Defenseman at the time (Klefbom) stopped playing for good cause of injury/sickness. Other defensemen in the league just signed for big numbers and Oilers were desperate to keep Nurse. But they overpaid him horribly
WILL be an anchor? That contract was an anchor the second they signed it. He was considered overpaid the moment it was signed, and it is so true. He is a 5m player, at the very most 5.5m imo and that's because he's got the size and toughness, but yeah at 9.2m it was an anchor of a contract the moment it was signed.
Nurse's AAV getting inflated and the way Campbell fell apart sucks for Edmonton, that's a lot of cap they could've really weaponized to make the most of this window. Very interested to see how Holland or his successor create the next iteration of this team.
having only 14 guys NHL guys signed and only having 10 mil in cap space is such an awful spot to be in. Even getting 7 league min guys, that eats up almost all the cap space. In comparison, Florida has 20 mil in space.

rather they try keep Henrique over Foegele. That 3rd line was great
Trade cambell with retained salary. Nurse has no move until 27 so he only goes if he wants to which is going to make it all but impossible to find a reasonable trade arrangement. Kane should go for surgery and LTIR him until the playoffs and see where he's at.

Was Draisaitl injured - it sure seem like he was.....
I heard he had a broken rib & finger. This explains why his shots weren't good in the final.
Yeah it just came out that Drai had a broken rib and broken finger. Mcdavid also had an abdominal injury that requires surgery
Drai's world-class backhand was nowhere to be seen.
Really excited to see what the team does this off season, even thought they lost the cup in game 7 I still consider this season a massive success as a fan but going forward I think the expectation next season is to win that game 7 and bring the up home.
Keeping Brown should be top of the list, aside from Holloway and Broberg. Oilers need dogs that will win puck battles, and Brown is that. It would be decent if they could get Janmark, Carrick, and Henrique on good contracts. The rest are expendable (except for maaaaaaaybe Foegele)
This is the closest this core is going to get to the cup. Going to get harder from here on out
The Nurse contract is hurting this team. I have no idea how he is worth 9m
Cale Makar isn’t even paid that much and he was considered one of the best Defensemen of the 2023-24 year.
Everybody knows Nurse is overpaid. Probably Holland's biggest mistakeas G|M.
Sure, the Nurse contract is bad, but edmonton has amazing value contracts as well, Hyman, Drai, Nuge..
@@JonSnuh exactly, not to mention every nhl teams has at least one bad contract. His contract makes him look worse than he actually is. Nurse is a top 4D on most nhl teams. His contract is manageable at least until Mcdavid, Draisaitl and Bouchard get their extensions
they either get another direct shot at the cup next season or end up much farther away from it than we can image or expect right now lol (NO INBETWEENS) it feels like
I really think it depends on how the West falls. Can't really see Edmonton getting past Vegas, Colorado, and Dallas unless they get lucky again and only have to face one of them. Two out of three would be tough.
@@Wayf4rer Dallas doesn't seem to match well against Oilers at all.
@@Wayf4rer add in a healthy vancouver with more continuity next year
Needs to give Nurse to the Leafs
And soup back.
Let's get as delusional as Leafs fans are: Nurse and Campbell for Marner!
@@streetdog75 Marner would fold like a lawn chair playing on a competitive western team, LoL.
Oilers need another D...Shea Weber kind of D who clean the net with Sherwood.
Nurse Contract is Atrocious.Kane need to step up his game.
Janmark,Brown,Foegele need to be back.
Kane is "ideally a 25 to 30 goal scorer" but you were looking for a little more out of Kane? He scored 24 goals and played the season with a sports hernia.
Omg nurse at $9 million.
I want his agent please
You can’t have his agent because he leads the Montreal Canadiens .
Kane, Mcleod, Ceci, and probably Foegele should be on their way out. If they could drop Nurse's contract for just about any other defenseman, it would be great.
Kane has a NMC. Edmonton is stuck with him until 2026.
Why would they move McLeod?
@@yelling3874 He's not much of use is why he did nothing during the post season except being good on the pk.
@@yelling3874 because he's a 4th liner making 2.1 mil. They can spend that in a better way
Canucks will take him for a sweetener, like McDavid or Drei
Starting to price themselves out of contention!
Getting to the Stanley Cup is hard. . Getting back to the Stanley Cup is even harder.
I don’t think you can say anyone was the problem. Skinner was very good in the finals. I think they gotta keep brown and Janmark for sure. Trading Campbell will be super hard but it would solve alot of problems
I wonder what a cap dump looks like for Campbell. Like maybe as a tanking team you'd consider having him up, but most likely he'd just be getting buried. Very expensive way to clear just under 4m.
A team like Calgary would be smart to take bad contracts like Campbells for draft picks and prospects, but they're not smart enough to do that.
Lol. Also, what if campbell turns out to be a good 1B, like he should have been? What was holland thinking? Skinner 1A, soup 1B. Ask to renegotiate contract and extend it for a few yrs, or we dump you to AHL, and eat it, and you are likely done for life?
anyone think he's done?
@@MrGamman3yt I would have liked to have seen Soup under Knoblauch. I'm sorry but I blame Woodcroft for a lot of Jack's mental health issues in Edmonton.
Calling it right now my Bruins will NOT win the stanley cup next season 😫
Nope, maybe make the playoffs.
Regressions, regressions, regressions. First rounded by florida.
@@rabeechowdhury will Florida have Reinhart, and Montour ? Which Bobrovsky shows up ? Will the drive to win be there ?
Bold prediction
I doubt they will make a final again soon. There are too many other up and coming teams that I think will be much better next year. Dallas, I expect Boston will come back strong, rangers too. Carolina will retool
Nurse, Kane and Campbell's contracts will likely hurt the Oilers long term. As for Skinner it's not someone I think that can keep up. The second goal in game seven was pretty weak.
And van, wpg, avs in west. 20% cap in those 3! Criminal. Imagine if Oil had Marsktrom, or Demko? Know what they both hsve? The same goalie coach. That dude in edmo has to go.
That Nurse contract... I've always found idiotically illogical that this claim that one player's new contract "sets the market for other comparable players" holds sway. One team overpays Jones so now, "that's the market". We have to pay Nurse 50% more than what he's worth. I guess he had had a good year. One. good. year. I'm not ragging on Nurse. His other years aren't bad - but for him, it was one year above his typical level. Can't really blame him for taking the money either.
Kane is not the same player as he was before his injury (remember it was Pat Maroon whom skated over his wrist). Even a decade ago, that kind of injury would end a players career, he is only still playing because of more modern treatments for that sort of thing.
That's exactly what I thought. When it happened I knew he wouldn't come back the same. His shot was 50 % better then what it is now
Nurse contract is way too much, probably one of the worst in the league, i don’t know how they’re going to sign Bouchard later, they should at least try to keep Foegele, Janmark and Brown IMO. But who knows.
Nurse's contract is a massive problem. Campbell and Kane are also terrible contracts but only a third or fourth of the Nurse impact. Hard to see how the Oilers improve unless those three play up to their contracts.
Yep. Drai was a risk that they won. Yukopov mistake still hurts em a bit. Imagine.
It's true. 20m in cap space, literally 1/4 of their total. This team is an easy cup winner if that 20m is distributed amongst 5 solid depth guys at ~4m a piece
i don't agree with the Kane part. When he arrived Edmonton from Sharks, he kind of played the Hyman role sometimes and be very successful as well. that skate to wrist injury seemed to drag him behind, though...
@@pallaschiron it’s truly hard to see, injuries like that in the past would’ve been a career ender.
I can't see how Nurse's contract is worse than Campbell's, it's overpaying a guy by a couple million a year versus paying a guy 5 million to play in the minors.
The oils true window was last year and this year. They get a bonus chance next year but it will get harder and harder from there. Bright spots are Holloway and Broberg are now regular NHLers filling big rolls for cheap EL deals. Desharnais is not cashing in. If someone wants to pay him more than 2 mill you have to let him walk. I love him but that don’t work on this team. Fogele is going to get around 4 mill open market but if he takes a team friendly at 3 I’d want to keep him. If LA can trade PLD than someone will take Campbell right? I’m sure oil would happily retain too. As for the big names and the extensions and the core… as long they are together this team is in the conversation the rest of the pieces will work themselves out.
Damn we'll need great cap management and hopefully a new GM who doesn't screw us over
Like last 3?
Current made some very good deals like Hyman and Nuge. decent Kane. Bad Nurse and Campbell
As a Cats fan, nothing but respect for Edmonton. Hell of a team, so impressive in the O zone it’s silly. Some of the fans however, were very obnoxious keyboard warriors the past two weeks. McDavid deserves a cup. GG Edmonton.
As if the Panthers fans weren't?
@@Slipings I think that's what he means.
Absolutely. I love Edmonton, the team, but oftentimes find myself despising Edmonton, the fans.
We come by it honestly. The oilers fans deal with constant trolling on every post from fans of other teams(mostly toronto and calgary but not limited to), and so many have turned into trolls themselves. They are a product of thier environment.
Florida is a great team and Bob came through in the end for you.
I understand it's fun to make fun of the oilers but in reality they're in the best spot they've been in and should be set to seriously contend for the next handful of years.
Oilers front office under Jeff Jackson is already trending in the right direction. For the first time they now have a full analytics department, and hired a coach who now has proven success in playoffs. Under Knoblauch and Coffey, for the first time, their team defense was a strength not a weakness and they got the most out of their depth players.
McDavid and Draisaitl clearly want to win championships and do it together. They will obviously get significant raises, but doubt they will price the team out of contention as they understand how important team depth is.
Their cap situation while not ideal is not nearly as bad as its made out to be. Cap should continue to rise quite a bit over the next few years. They have significant money coming off the books over the next couple of years, at the same time their big names need to be paid. And now with a more modern progressive front office they should be more active/creative in finding ways to add depth players at value.
All in all, sucks to get that close and not win, but they'll be back. The Western conference is trending in the wrong direction too. Dallas while their young players are great, they will need to replace the likes of Benn/Seguin/Duchene eventually, and their defense corps isnt exactly anything special. Colorado will always be competitive but they've been trending in the wrong direction since their cup win where they were able to add a ridiculous amount of depth for that run. Vancouver is improving, but they won't have the cap flexibility going forward to add guys like Lindholm/Zadorov midseason so easily. Vegas will still be a contender, but their core is also only getting older and have no prospects coming up since they always trade them for immediate help. Winnipeg I think is pretty underrated, but im not sure they're serious contenders. The rest of the west is more or less a joke or trending towards rebuild.
Sign Patty Kane to play on first line
Draisatl can ask and should get at least the same as Auston Matthews. He might accept less but it’s not unreasonable to get more than a lesser player.
