We normally get about 4 potatoes per seed potato. It depends of a lot of factors though, not least of which is how long they can grow before getting frosted. That puts an end to the growing season.
I like the comparison you have set up between the two methods of growing the potatoes. I'm looking forward to the results. Also, where are you getting the water for the irrigation, collected rainwater, well water of city water?
