As a dedicated Dudes-On-A-Map player (Conquest of Nerath, Fortress America, Shogun, Axis and Allies, Nexus Ops, etc etc etc) just from your overview I can see three major flaws: 1. It's hard to fight. Even if combat is generally a net negative in a game (as is often the case in War of the Rings, especially for the Free Peoples), it should be easy for players to make that bad choice. 2. Direct purchase of advancement. Being able to simply pay to move up a track, especially when that track gives a huge advantage like the Reputation track, is always a disaster. Axis and Allies Breakthroughs or Attack!'s Technologies require both cost and risk to advance, keeping it from being a "buy victory" situation. 3. Map deformation. Allowing a player to directly and fundamentally alter the map never works. Risk 2210 has a great system - 4 random areas are irradiated and impassable at the beginning of the game. Letting players do this turns it into "who can break the game first". Hearing about a new DOAM game made me very excited, but I feel this is further proof that DOAM is a dying art - players don't know how to play them (Fortress America requires a much different thought pattern than Terra Mystica) and designers don't know how to design them.
Oh boy…I’m not sure I’m the person to ask. I just got into this hobby within the past year. I still don’t know what I don’t know! There are a few on Kickstarter that look interesting: Lore (I think that campaign just ended), Nekojima and Crime Unfolds Pop-Up Mystery Game. I’m just now trying games that have been around for years. Thank you for asking!
Really enjoying Jeff's reviews on the channel.
Munchkin Risk almost made me wake the wife up with laughter🤣
I never knew that "Middle Earth" was in China, mind-blown!
This guy is great!
Have you tried DEFCON 1 instead, Sir?
Thank you for the review 👍🏻
😢 what an incredible saga

Thanks for another great video, Jeff! You’re on a roll!
Thanks! Any suggestions on what to review next?
