A lot of people (myself included) are wondering about the concept of the video.
Closest I can figure, the video concept is touching on the progression of knowledge-gaining for us as a species.
1st vignette features a tree bearing multiple (incompatible by grafting) fruits, which I take to signify that this is a metaphorical tree, like the tree ok knowledge. Matt's shaking the tree represents temptation to Mica as the fruits dangle about.
2nd vignette: The telephone cord and womb signifying a connection between technology and birth, maybe the birth of a new age of humanity as we are able to communicate instantly across the globe. The red cord being pulled inward by Mica maybe representing the umbilical cord, which is pulling Matt back to the womb?
3rd vignette: Mica pulls the TV cord into a knot. There is some reference to the telephone cord from earlier, but I can't quite make the connection.
Maybe the knot being pulled into a zero shape represents a new start of some sort? Or perhaps represents the emptiness (null) of television as a media in terms of introspection or social connection?
4th vignette: This one's tricky. I see Mica pointing up and over towards the prism. The dotted line seems significant, maybe a historical reference I'm not catching, but it does look cool and make you think more about what's happening.
Matt's looking through a telescope towards the prism. It may be the prism represents the future, whether that's the 'singularity', utopia, or even the unknown itself is left up to interpretation.
Personally I think it symbolizes hope for the future that we're looking towards as time marches on.
The final vignette (alien Mica in space) I believe may again represent the transformation of humanity through technology and how we use it, perhaps to colonize alien worlds. Dancing on water may be a reference to Jesus, or it might just look cool, either way works.
A few random/unresolved thoughts on the video:
The audience: personally not getting much here, it seems like a 'monkey-see, monkey-do' statement, how we transfer knowledge from individual to individual as a global society? They're all sitting, which turns the statement for me to a sort of critique of the passive nature of learning through observation of other people without directly interacting with them (ironi-ception here maybe?)
As others have noted, Mica is clearly not really playing the guitar, which seems an intentional choice to point out that she might not be representing a particular individual, but be sort of a historical or mythic parable or narrator to the story we observe in the video.
The lyrics: I probably should look more closely at them since analyzing the visuals here without them may be misleading.
A final random thought--the video reminds me of the video for 'Billions' by Caroline Polachek, with black void backgrounds, reference to the Tree of Knowledge, the future, the captive audience, and the evolution of humanity through various phases via knowledge and understanding of the universe.
Ultimately a great video since it acts like a Rorschach test, and really it says more about you in terms of what you see in it.

Probably because my 2 yr old tends to interrupt me a lot 😂 but, I admit I still don’t think I would have put that together. I kept trying to understand what they were “saying” and I figured it was either so deep I was too ignorant to get it, or pure nonsense that was designed to make me look for more where there was nothing (which really doesn’t feel like their “agenda” and style?).

Admittedly neglected fully vibing with this song+video like I have with many others of theirs, and I don't even know why! But something finally *clicked* for me just now with this, and the masterpiece of a music video this also is. That final scene with the water dance(that incorporates all the gestures *_*), and Mica as a Moon Goddess is so beautiful. God, Magdalena Bay is just so f*cking good, it's almost unreal. I'm glad I'm one of the chosen ones to know of this band relatively early on. May they have great success beyond their wildest dreams 🙏💖
