Had my plinky for a year or so. I completely agree. I love it to bits but a 10-12" plinky would be so much more playable. I do play it, you can do, getting to know it has been fun, but a bigger version could be incredible fun.
thanks for your comment........I'd buy a larger version in a heartbeat....................it's such a fun & great sounding machine
I’ve been so close to pulling the trigger on one of these. I’d mainly be using it for sound design and then incorporate it into my inbox / daw set up.
But it does look incredibly fiddly and while I like what I hear a lot of the demo’s I hear sound very samey.
Great review. Still in the fence.
Understood.......for the money, it's truly amazing......but I just didn't feel that I'd enjoy my time working with it........everyone is different......and I hear you - most Plinky videos are pretty - 'plinky', odd, and often feature the same basic oscillator tone!
I love your reviews and was excited to see a new one about a really intriguing little synth. I’d love to know what you think of Tempera. Only thing it’s missing is MPE.
The Tempera was really tempting, however instead, I just ordered a Tasty Chips GR-1, as I suspect it is more aligned with my needs.....................but let's face it, no matter how my I try NOT to be a Wantmonster, that G.A.S. usually kicks in, so I have to sell something before I can justify buying something new......
I had the Tempera and the GR-1, did not like the Tempera and sold it. Solid hardware, but using it was a chore. The menus were not laid out well and you had to drive for everything by 3 levels deep. Also, many knob menus and buttons didn't have any functions so it felt really unfinished. On the videos it looks awesome but did but feel fun to use. The GR-1 and Lemondrop are both great though, and sound great, and are intuitive to use.
VERY interesting. I'd actually been talking with Andre about his Tempera, but in the end I decided to go with the GR-1. Just uploaded this about it:

A wonderful synth Will, I didn't know him!
Yes, not very popular, but there are some truly incredible sounds, and it's not expensive........
This thing always looked attractive to me but my intuition was that it was did to much for it size. Good review. Glad I know more about it
Good instincts. It does make some really wonderful noises, no question
Great review ... but too small for my fingers 😉
Yeah, it was really frustrating when it actually arrived and I realized how small it was
Hi Will, How much post processing did you do, the stereo field is really wide and sounds amazing.
No post. I just uploaded some samples that I'd created, which have a wide stereo field. The granular processing adds additional stereo activity. The built in reverb also has a great great immersive feel.
Seems a bit head scratcher.., but sounds amazing! 🤩😅
Yeah, you can do really cool things with it, but I was too frustrated to keep it, so I've ordered a different granular device.
Had mine for a year now. Even after having it and using it for a full year, I dunno if I a competent enuf with it to leave a critical review.
Interesting.............I just decided to offer viewers my first impressions, but I do realize that it has depths that I hadn't even begun to discover...........
Got my V3 yesterday and I'm confounded by two things: 1. They say this can be mounted in a Eurorack case, I've tried in two different cases and it doesn't fit in either. The internal components are mounted like 2mm too low on the panel. 2. CV/Gate doesn't work as traditionally as you''d expect for a modular set up which would be fine because there's midi BUT..... if you do manage to squeeze it into a modular case, both the top and bottom input sections are then covered up. Why would they not put a MIDI input on the FRONT?! I want to love this thing but these two issues really killed me.
Hey, thanks for adding your voice to the conversation. I'm sure your comment will be helpful to people. I was a bit hesitant about this upload, but from the comments, it seems people are quite happy to hear all aspects - good AND BAD about this little device.
@@willswitchcraft Yeah definitely. I can absolutely see the appeal of the synth, it's a fun approach and is really trying to do something new. I think my wanting to make it part of a eurorack system won't be a big deal to most but I know there's a few of us out there haha. Thanks for posting an honest review, it's important these days. Maybe a V4 or evolution of the general idea will address some of these issues down the road. Cheers!
I really wanted to love it..............oh well....that's G.A.S for ya
There’s an expander for midi if you want to mount in an eurorack case. I was curious to know which Cv/gate problem you’ve encountered. Is there a calibration to perform for Cv?
er pinky or plinky ?????? check title
thanks for that.............fixed it
