Nate: A split flap isn't crow. It's a flap where the upper surface of the wing doesn't move with the flap. Crow is when the flap goes down and the ailerons go up to give even more "braking surface" and to break the airflow over the upper surface of the wing.
I am new to your channel but I really enjoy it! I raced RC Cars back in the 80's. I'm a Navy Aviation vet so I love aircraft. I never got into flying RC planes they were too expensive to crash and burn back then. But these electrics have sparked my interest. Thanks!
Beautiful landing :)
Today I made a mistake I can't believe. After loading up my car to leave the field (E-Flight Valiant with a stand, ammo box with my lipos, and tool box. I drove off with a small foam 747 on my roof. I bought it from Banggood after seeing on your channel. Loved that little guy and it flew amazing.
@@TheRcSaylors not yet, happened yesterday. Going back today to put up signs. 🤞
Cell phone , coffee ☕️ I have also put stuff on my bumper and drove off 😆😆😆
Great flying plane. Don’t beat yourself up over the half flaps. If that was my biggest mistake today, I’d be happy. Thank you both for another great video. God bless.
Fun Flight with the P51. If you left the flaps on, eh, you had fun and brought the plane home safe.
FYI, war planes have a heavy torque so right rudder is a must, I have a RocHobby Critical Mass and it's a blast at 115 mph but rudder control is hard.
That is a perfect landing. 👏👏👏
You can move the clevis one hole in on the servo, or one hole out on the elevator if the movements are to large.
Greased landing! My favorite part.
Great landing. Not a fan of foamies but that one does look good and seems to fly good. Thanks for posting.
AWESOME video!! FINALLY a little bit of an instructional...thank you!! REALLY NICE for a DUMB flight BUT I GOT it!! Never say never and how does AMA cover your brain?! 😅 Thanks Saylors for the HONESTLY FUN show!! 💟👍😘
Nice! Finally got my FMS 1450 P51 can’t wait to maiden nice flight👍🏽
Kudos on the landing. 👍 Mustangs are NOT that easy to land. But I'm amazed you're new to expo...it is your friend. More so than rates, because you still have full throw. I've got a plane or two that I literally have 70% expo on rudder/steerable gear just to get it down the runway to a decent takeoff speed. I've got other planes with 50-60% expo on low rate elevator to smooth out the landing approach. Great for numbing the center of the stick to remove twitch and smooth out flight.
Oh! Setup some elevator mix into the flap settings. Start with 7% down for takeoff flaps & 12% for landing flaps. Adjust accordingly from there. This way you're not fighting with the elevator when actuating flaps. It's not cheating because real planes have it too. Rudder mix is cheating. 😆
Great landing!
Let him set in his ways , keep flying guys ! God bless 🙏
I love the fact you guys leave your mistakes in your videos, to err is human, especially when you own up to making them! I have had such good luck with Arrows planes, I think they make quality planes, they aren't perfect but they are good planes especially for the price in my opinion. I prefer Arrows/FMS planes to horizon hobby/e-flite, I have had better luck with the quality on the Arrows/FMS planes.
Thankya Nate & thankya Abby for sharing this video. Well done on the flight of the gorgeous P-51D Mustang, regardlessof "half flap" flight. It did well & the 3 point touch down was aw e some!! My absolute favorite airplane of all time! God bless!
What a perfect landing Nate. Flight was very impressive with half flaps. Keep having fun guys. 👍🤘
I have been flying for 25 years and yes I have done the same young man it's easy to do when distracted and have a great flying plan..
HAVE FUN THATS WHAT RC IS ALL ABOUT 👍👍
Love this plane,i have the small one, would love this at some point 👍👍👍
Flying with flaps was your mistake?! I wish I was that perfect. Nice video as usual.
great looking plane! I NEVER make any mistakes!!! I also NEVER LIE lol
“To err is human”, and the source of an occasional rush of adrenaline.
For years I have been puzzled by your resolve to not use expo, when you embrace every other technological advancement the hobby offers.
We live and learn.
It’s a good looking Mustang! The rear wheel is probably more robust than a retractable would be, and I honestly couldn’t see it when it was flying.
Thanks Nate. Great video, glad to see when you leave mistakes in the videos so I know when I make a noob mistake, everyone does at some point. And being filmed, talking, and dealing with wind and sun can't be easy! And I know you understand the difference between split flaps and crow. It's just a lot to jumble in your head at once. Keep up the great content guys!
You are flying so much smoother. I always said you had too much throw in the controls, and planes flew twitchy.
I shouldn’t have waited so long to use expo. It really does clean up the flight a noticeable amount. Thanks for tuning in! 👍😁😎⚓️
Wow so was flying the other day with full flaps and was like..doh!! It happens to the best of us. Cheers
You always have Fun ,you And Abbey, love your Videos, and We all make Mistake, and always learn from it!,,,
I can't think of how many times I've left the flaps halfway I've been flying ever since 1980 everybody makes mistake good video Nate
The best look is the one YOU like... sandwich...etc... Mix it up for fun. YOUR fun. Enjoy!
Nice flight (even with 1/2 flaps 1/2 the time). Yea...I'm one who didn't like the non-retracting tail wheel...but at that price point it would be IMPOSSIBLE to incorporate such...Setting up a working retractable tail wheel is NO simple thing (I've looked at building a 1/4 scale balsa P-51...and the cost of the 3-wheel retract systems is greater than the cost of your P-51. As always glad you had a beautiful day. Thanking God for both of you.
That shot when the plane was flying into the sun was money it was so pretty. Good flight Nate. It sure was pretty watch in the air
Both, the plane and his weird faces Abby. I have no planes and have never flown one. Your boat videos is what brought me to the channel. Great channel guys. Great video. Half flaps and all.
Abby and Nate y'all rock! Love the channel and content! I'm here for the algorithm! Peace
A very good Sunday morning to you all in the USA from Wellington Somerset in the UK
I've taken off with reversed ailerons before. IDK how I managed to land it but I greased the landing and my underwear. lol
Those mistakes like forgetting to bring the flaps back up is something that any pilot can make. With model airplanes, the worst it will probably cause is for you do lose the plane in a crash. In real planes, they have a checklists that they go through pre-takeoff and post takeoff, because a mistake there is likely to kill someone, including yourself!
It was a nice flight, and that version of the P-51D is a great looking plane!
1100mm? It looks huge while you were holding. I had to double check the website to make sure that's how big it is.
Well if you hadn't said anything about it I wouldn't have known. I think that's the big secret for people (like me) who are perfect!
Could u do a vid on the Eflite p-51d 1.2 meter
Hahaha, "So they should forget everything you said up to this point? About the expo?" I love it. I also agree with Abby- move the clevis! Get the airframe flying right then apply electronic correction. "Like Abby said!" Thank you guys SO much. Be well :)
My full scale instructor said to me years ago "if you don't want to be humbled, Don't Fly!" She went on to say that we all make mistakes and it was good training and good habits that just might get you back on the ground in one piece. A pilot at my home field once reported his nose wheel tug stolen and was irate. The next day one of the people that lived near the airport came into the airport managers office and said they found something that must have fallen off an airplane. That is right, it was the missing tug... the pilot took off with it attached to the nose gear. Flying around with a few degrees of flaps in a plane, that you are not physically piloting from the inside of the craft, seems very minor in comparison.
Beautiful 😍 Warbird
Nice flying Nate 🔥👍✌️
I definitely like the multi colors, brightens up the dull grey. Especially like the yellow 👃 🐽 🤥. Some good flying tex. Videoing most excellent 👌 👏. Expo is 🤔❓🤔❔. ⚓⚓👍💛💜💚👍👏🤥👍⚓⚓.
nice flight Nate, im gonna get one with ur link thanks again u 2
Rest assured a wife will bring stuff up again about your character flaws. Imagine if you gave that back. I tried it a few times. It was scary but i love to flip the table once in a while to see what happens lol. Still love you both on youchoob. Youchoob love lol
LOL Nate's a knucklehead that's too funny. Great review with some nice flying and hey we all goof up at sometime.
Thanks Thomas!! Lol, this was still a really fun evening of flying 👍😁😎⚓️
Leaving the flaps extended was a rookie mistake. Or as I might call it, a thing I would do and never even notice I did. One thing though: To me, the P-51 with the external fuel cells symbolizes the Mustang coming into its own in terms of history. When they got to the later variants, the P-51 had the range to escort Fortresses all the into and back out of the target area. My great uncle was a B-17 crewman in the Mighty Eighth, so I like the tanks. Of course, I'd remove them to fly the RC version. I don't need to get from East Anglia to Germany and back from where I'm standing. :)
Wow 🤩🤩🤩
Flaps up on all foamy aircraft on take-off. You don't need them leaving the ground in 9 feet at 8 mph. Roll on the throttle progressively as you work that rudder. The wing loading is so light on 1.2 m aircraft you simply do not need the extra lift and it might get you airborne, and into dangerously slow flight before the control surfaces are able to really do their best work. Scale take offs are the best takeoffs!
If the flaps are your only error you are doing well.
Love ya guys. Nat might won’t to rethink holding plane with prop next to his arm by elbow . Would be really bad if it come on by freak reason r throttle bump. Just hate seeing people get sliced up . It’s happed at our club
Brilliant video mate love ❤️ the plane very fast 👍👏
hi nate i'm at this place out side right now so i can't watch the video but i wanted to know what is your favorite foam airplane that is 100% the driver 😂 i want to get one 😂 i'm probably not but if i do illl use your links and get it!!! they just look so fun to fly
Well, that's one way to turn a laminar-flow wing into an old-school airfoil! 😉
I never thought I’d see the day that Nate started using expo.
If you get looking through post-war P-51 pics, the tailwheel being locked down was not an uncommon modification.
I run very high rates and 40% to 50% expo all the time on all my planes. It's there and there isn't a reason to not use it.
If the worst thing to happen during a flight is forgetting to put the flaps up, I'd call that a great flight.
Half flap b52 was a rocking flight i loved it it may of ben a flat out mistake as it was a bit slow but it was an aswome flight
People are too picky on a plane at that price point. Tail wheel is a non-issue. Half flaps actually made it look more “scale”!
Very nice I love it
Nice flying...flaps or not! Can anyone comment on how this Mustang does on a grass field? I do not have any good options for paved runways near me.
Your exactly right. Everyone makes mistakes!
Both the Arrows 1.1m Corsair and the 1.1m Mustang are tail-heavy with a 3S 2200. Brian Phillips puts a 4S 3200 in his to tame these, along with increasing the rudder throw for those takeoffs.
There have been more than a few times I have forgotten to put my flaps up after takeoff. “Why is my plane flying different today?” Yeah, I felt like a goober too. ;-)
Have you started to land without flaps down wondering, why is it coming in so fast 🤔 and at the last second, D'oh
Dropping stuff is cool. I set up a 10$ way to drop things from my Aeroscout it's very fun. I drop army guy with parachute and rubber bombs
Seriously!? $10 and it works okay!? I’m very curious how you did this and would love to share with others!
@@TheRcSaylors I love to show u. Send me a message or a way to contact you to send the pics
YAAaaaa
Nate, it’s time to set up audio events! Who cares if the event is in the video. 🙏
You and Abby should take the echine war birds out and fly for a video soon
Hey guys, would you consider doing a video to discuss your thoughts on remote id? Sadly looks like it is going to happen.
Nate, for the love of anything, put a little transit time in your flap system. Yes, a retractable tail wheel would be super cool, even if I can't see the wheel when your flying. But the flap snap??? Ugh, so not scale!
Compare this to the E-Flight June Night P-51 please
Ok, I’m convinced, what is needed to fly one those birds? I’m totally new to this but it looks like a lot of fun
Please teach me
You’re in luck my friend. This exact model of a plane but slightly different body is available in a 15 inch wing tip to wing Tip remote controlled plane. It is called the Echine P 51D mustang You can get it on Amazon and watch many reviews of Nate and Abby flying the plane literally just watch the videos on UA-cam and you will see. I flew it 7 times today and I can’t get over it after two months is still the most amazing plane
I bought the Arrows Corsair and what an amazing bird
Late squad tonight happy flying all 😎😎😎😎⚓️⚓️⚓️
Thanks for the card and stickers! Really appreciated 🙏! Glad to help...my kids are pretty grown up now...I know how much costs are raising them. I like that plane! Quick question...I bought two rc boats. One 17" miss geico pro boat and one 17" lucas pro boat. Miss geico took on water and still is great NO issues and lucas took on water also and had to replace all the electronics. I've put tape on it the second time and still takes on water. I checked the cooling hoses and the seal for the lid. Everything checks out. What else can I do?
I’m almost positive you just need to glob a bunch of grease on the prop shaft from the sounds of things. I’ll bet that will solve your problem 👍 And you are very welcome! Thanks again for everything! 😁😎⚓️
@@TheRcSaylors thank you so much for getting back to me. Are you guys going to do more rock crawling soon?
Great flight, man. What do u have ur flap deflections set at? Thanks!! U guys rock!!
The punishment for flying with flaps down is 20 lashes with a wet noodle. Proper landing for a REAL warbird was 3 point landing. They already take a lot of runway. My friend flew P-47s during the war. A 5000 foot long runway was sometimes not enough for a takeoff. Started takeoff roll with right rudder full on and steered with throttle. Third; please finish those invasion stripes. Fourth and last; If they complain about the tail wheel answer them with a proper raspberry! It's your plane. They should be so lucky to have it.
I have seen photos of full scale Mustangs flying with the main gear retracted and the tail wheel extended, so yours is still scale, sorta.
Do eflite p51
I need help replacing the tail gear on my plane it is the exact model can you do a tutorial on how to do it please that would mean a lot
I think the biggest mistake was calling this a mistake with capital characters, as it was a minor mistake at best. Landing was perfect, no mishaps, so great flight. We'll just call flying with half flaps testing combat flaps setting, which some of these warbirds had, to improve turning ability in a dogfight, and losing some top speed was less important.
I trashed 🗑 mine. It needed so much PFACTOR counter control Right rudder it was a PITA to take off on a crowned road. I noticed the prop brakes way to easy and servos are cheap plastic. I added crow to to 7 channel RX. And put lots of expo in mine too. Finally installed FMG servo on ailerons too. My bird was full of Gremlins, Finally stripped all the electronics and tossed the plane in the trash can. I'll gonna go with the 1 .2. E FLIGHT INSTEAD. GOOD VIDEO ,
Would you rather fly the Arrows P-51 or T-28? I love the E-Flite yellow Trojan 1.1 so much that I went for the Arrows T-28.
Abby, it is pronounced kleh-vuhs , not klee-vus.
Better check the rules and regs being finalized this fall. Big corp has bought off the FAA and is going to end up forcing people to fly at registered RC sites. They really want that 0-600' airspace.
Now that's a laugh. There are lot's of laws that are hard to enforce and that's one of them. After defunding police and they can barely enforce the laws we already have. Lol, I can see it now Regular Prisoner: "What are you in for?", R/C Pilot: "Flying my toy plane in an empty field and got caught by the Amazon police drones." Meanwhile, stores and business's are getting looted and no one gets arrested.
sweet
another rookie mistake by the rc saylors is anyone really surprised? 😂
when do u get a new balsa plane?
After all year flying not using expo🤭
Nate I be happy to show u my Aeroscout that drops stuff that u asked about seeing. Do u have a way I can contact u to send u pictures or videos?
I tried to accept your message on IG but it wouldn’t let me for some reason.
I wish you would try the Banana Hobbies BlitzRCWorks 5ch F4F Wildcat it's very cool and different in a good way.
Would this plane be suitable for someone with a little bit of rc plane flying experience?
Warbirds are generally more difficult to fly due to the higher wing loading from retracts etc... and so not best suited to beginners.
Go for a slower flying high wing trainer with a gyro which can give you auto levelling when you let go the sticks. You can switch that mode off when you feel ready... but also keep it available as a get out of jail switch when you lose orientation.
@@paulhope3401 I have the Blondie P-51, it's the same size as this one and it flies like a low-wing trainer. It has AS3X for wind stability and a fair amount of dihedral. The airfoil is fairly forgiving and it doesn't stall hard. It'll drop a wing, but it's recoverable within 10 feet. The only PITA with warbirds are their tendency to nose over in grass.
Did you adjust the control travel to the specs in the manual?
Ok. I need to ask, what is Expo?
It's a 'deadening' of the stick towards the center.
The further towards the ends of the sticks movement you get, the *more* sensitive (lower resolution) the response becomes. The closer to center the sticks are, the *less* sensitive (higher resolution) the response.
The relationship between these values is exponential, as opposed to linear, thus the name. More 'expo' = a more pronounced effect.
This means you can still have full 100% travel on the surfaces when you need it, but a more docile response in normal flight (near the center of the sticks).
I prefer using exponential to changing rates, as the ultimate performance of the model doesn't change.. just your ability to control it!
Think of the steering wheel in your car when you turn the wheel it turns the tires right away … if you would add expo it would take more turning of the steering wheel to turn the tires … so basically what you are doing is making the turning less sensitive…. You will still be able to turn the tires but not as quickly.. in flying this is good because sometimes over controlling will make the plane fly all over the place , it won’t be as smooth ..
