49:22; Zavala's voice actor was recast to Keith David (Halo Arbiter) in the Final Shape. Also, Sloane next to Ahsa is still my custom Destiny 2 launch background on Steam, 31:23.
Best part: They created the Witness. - Bethany They *are* the Witness. - Ken An entire misguided civilization merged into one malevolent entity, desparate to control everything and everyone in the universe.
That background music while listening to the audio recordings was not put there on purpose. That location has a set of music tracks that randomly play and it didn't seem like the person recording was purposefully waiting for anything specific to start playing before listening the messages. Happy little accidents when the music was fitting the situations.
Witness is composed of an entire civilization and not one of em was a therapist or a philosopher. Would have saved the universe a whole lot of trouble.
@@turoskensei13 The oposite, actually: It was a society so deep into the abstract and philosophies of meaning and purpose, that they forgot the intrinsic value of life.
@@luisotaviomury5874 Imagine an entire society seeking out a perfect ending. What a horrid corruption that already existed long before they got their hands on the Veil.
And now you know why the Witness has the head smoke😂😂😂 It is an entire species coalesced into one gestault consciousness. It's so awesome, but like what many people have said before, it should've been in Lightfall
I don't think it's communicated clearly in the season just via the dialogue, but some of the written material tells us what Ahsa is, she's what the Worm Gods were long before being twisted by Darkness by the Witness, it was Rhulk who had basically jumped in Fundament's waters before the Traveler could convince the Krill, and literally killed the Leviathan, the largest of their kind and Servant of Light the same being who begged the Hive Sisters to turn back, return to the surface and not pledge themselves to Darkness/Worm Gods whose prison she watched over. The Leviathan had wanted the Krill to dedicate themselves to the Light rather than Darkness before they'd become the Hive, but we know how that story ends. Rhulk instead killed the Light-following Leviathan who was like a jailer of Dark-aligned Leviathan-species, the "Worm Gods", who freed by the Leviathan's death helped Rhulk fool the Krill, they're the same species as Ahsa, just corrupted by Darkness. Following the big-fish-eat-little-fish doctrine of Darkness (which is actually a poor read on what the Darkness ACTUALLY wants from its' users, same as how Guardians misread and deified the Light) most of the Worm Gods ended up killing each other and this is what started the whole "tithe system" the Hive use to function without their worm parasites eating their bodies. Ahsa fled Fundament during this time seeing how her whole species was now doomed due to the Witness/Rhulk's influence and hid away on Titan, this is where we fought Savathun's Brood WAY BACK in the base campaign when Ghaul took the Traveler, Savathun was looking for Ahsa, same as Xivu Arath is now and where Oryx's corpse landed after he was killed in Jupiter's atmosphere by us years ago. The Hive Sisters reunited at last, under differing circumstances. The Witness origins cutscene was much needed at this point coming off the disappointment that Lightfall's narrative left the community with. Probably could have been done better in the expansion as that's all we cared about going into Lightfall and instead were slammed by characters like Nimbus and Rohan who we have no attachment to and a story flavored more like an action 80s movie palette cleanser when we needed to start closing plotlines and create dread for the Witness, Calus and Savathun. Collectively not only the best "villains" in Destiny, but in my opinion some of the best written in fiction up until Lightfall really let us down by not shedding light (hehe) on the Witness and failing to meaningfully resolve Calus' arc before he died. Fuck Nimbus, all my homies hate Nimbus for stealing screentime he didn't deserve. Twas a dark time to be a Destiny fan not just from a narrative perspective, but people really disagreed with how expensive the game had become to play year-to-year and how poor Bungie's executive leadership is in general.
Rhulk didn’t kill the leviathan, he only injured it. The hive siblings encountered it when they were searching for the worm gods and later killed the leviathan as it tried to escape fundament.
So there's some lore this season that kind of rubs some salt on recent wounds. During season of the splicer, Amanda became very close to an eliksni engineer named Niik. They worked together in the hanger and both shared their love of machines and would work on ships, sparrows, pikes, etc. During this season we find out that Niik is still reeling after the passing of Holiday in a lore tab for an exotic sparrow called "To Be Remembered". It basically talks about how Niik has been working on this particular sparrow for a while and when she test drives the engine, it malfunctions. This isn't anything new as it's happened many times before, but this time Niik has a small outburst and breaks down crying. However, her servitor pulls up a recording of something that Amanda taught her and had forgotten, but after the recording, she gets back up and continues working on the sparrow knowing that while Amanda may be gone, but she will never forget her or the time she spent with her. I thought it was sad, but also pretty heart warming as a little reminder of all the great times we had with Amanda.
A few notes. 1. This was the last season Lance Reddick voiced zavala for, Luckily Keith david who has worked with bungie in the past as the Arbiter in halo took over the reigns. 2. The Drifter... the reason why saladin has been so blunt and aggressive with him is simple. During the dark age, Saladin was a good guy. He helped people, he formed a group to help more people and take on the war lords (guardians who use their power to rule) BUT since they were at felwinter peak... they only helped those they heard, big picture. The drifter was not a good guy, he didn't help people without payment, he was a pirate, a dregen and a all round douche. However, he could see on the ground, small picture so he hired the iron lords for those tasks to make them see the small stuff. However there is still stigma between them as saladin and 95% of guardians went to build the last city and defend it... The drifter and a few others didn't and left the solar system to explore... So that still is there. 3. The witness. The witness simply put, Is a entire civilisations conscious minds forced into one vessel. As the first species to encounter the traveller as it was buried on their home they studied it and found out the Viel was linked. They were so focused on the "Final shape" that they didn't see the traveller didn't want to be linked. So they tried to force it... And the traveler left. So the civilisation formed the witness, a entire species minds into one entity to chase the traveller and bring about the final shape. 4. Why is Xivu arath so cocky? She has a right to be, every action we take against her grows her power. She is war and gains strength in battles of ALL kind. So how can you beat the Godess of war? Well next season, you may find out.
Congrats on completing season of the deep. Yeah this was a bittersweet season, last season that has lance reddick being the voice of Zavala. Next season is season of the witch. 2 more seasons until final shape. As always a few notes. Note 1: Now you know why they choose the witness's design and its backstory. Just want to ask one question on it, If a whole civiliazation combines are they all in the same mindset or is it being lead by the few? Note 2: Xivu Arath has room to gloat, her thone world keeps on being built by every action, every thought against her. So her basically sh!ttalking us is basically making us make her more powerful. Now going into season of the witch, i have one question to ask of you, how do you defeat Xivu Arath, hive god of war?
@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames word of warning if you are watching Destin's video for season of the Witch there is a slight spoiler (Destin recorded this during the next season so there is mentions on the outcome) also there is a slight audio delay on some points of the story
19:05 When ya boi Lore daddy or byf saw this cutscene. He felt it was glaring complete mistake on Bunige to not include this lore drop into the Lightfall Campaign. It would've made the pay off just a little bit better for returning Destiny players. Fun fact: As Byf calls this newly introduced civilization of the Witness as the "Precorsors". From the info that can be found by purchasing the collecters edition, their own government was surprisingly bit much like the Consensus factions of the last city. During their time, they all had different ideas of gaining the "Final Shape" until infighting broke out to the point where the individuals who wanted a forced "Final Shape" for all came out on top and enacting a darkness ritual that made them reborn as the "Witness".
Byf always thinking he’s right even when he isn’t….always placing his theories as canon. I’ve always had issues with that. It confused new lights and makes them expect something a lot different. He always does this. And hasn’t stopped. It’s why I stopped trusting him as a lord UA-camr. How can I trust someone who implements their own theories as facts and when those theories don’t come true the fandom reacts in a terrible way? I’ll never see byf as I used to…shame…he brought so much shame to lightfall where it wasn’t needed. After that? I lost allllll faith in him as a UA-camr. All he cares about is his own feelings and lore and this those are implemented then it’s a dead game by his standard right? Byf’s followers are so disgusting to me at this point. Y’all follow someone who doesn’t even link to lore directly. Go look for yourself at Ishtar.net stop relying on a liar.
@connorh4391 debatable, he doesn't seem to be a liar to me when he a talked about the state of Revenant. Also, I don't blame you about seeing his followers(the fans in general right?) as disgusting, the worst of them sent death threats to bungie devs.
I promise you the music isn’t purposeful. It’s just a coincidence they got those amazing OST’s during those moments. I’ve had the same experience as the HELM spot usually plays the best of the soundtracks haha
I agree with Bethany that Xivu Arath has this air of 'middle child syndrome'. Although funny enough, (others can correct me if I'm wrong on this but IIRC) Xivu's the youngest.
Now you understand just what us Guardians are up against. We are up against a being composed of billions of beings we call Precursors that had been space faring and had known the power of Light and Darkness for eons longer than us before becoming the Witness. It has conquered hundreds if not thousands of other civilizations, wiping out entire worlds, while recruiting others to its cause.
