Wonderful video! And I can recommend a good book that goes over PSA and notes how the wrath on the cross is the wrath of Christ as well, it touches on a lot that is great. Forsaken: the trinity the cross and whit it matters by Thomas McCall. I've talked about it a lot on my channel, but it's a great book. I fully affirm PSA, but I might not phrase it quite like the way many seem to think of it, and McCall challenges that idea as well. And of course as you and David talk about, there is more than one thing happening in the atonement. Keep pushing for the conversation for the reform we need!
Methodism has traditionally been homiletical as opposed to catechetical. But it's time for changes. Thanks again for what you're doing. As always......imho.
It is clear from this interview that the GMC Catechism, as it currently is, should NOT be adopted by the 2026 General Conference. The Catechism needs to be revised or we need to write a different catechism and adopt it instead. But again the current GMC Catechism, as it currently stands, should NOT be our official catechism moving forward....
I'm not happy with it. It seems to me that we have robbed the eucharist of much of its ecclesiastical authority by opening the table to everyone. If covenant is to mean anything, I think it needs to be protected. I hope the GMC chooses to close the table to only covenant members. In the meantime, I will abide by our current doctrine.
The Father pouring out His wrath on His beloved Son is not what was originally intended by penal substitution. I highly recommend Jeff search for and watch the interview with DeSilva's fellow Hebrews scholar Carl Mosser put out by Apologia Center Podcast entitled "Is Penal Substitution Atonement Biblical?" in which Mosser gives a detailed history of that particular "theory" and how it has been bastardized by later people, esp. those among the YRR crowd.
That was awesome. Thank you!
I just ordered two copies of his book, one for myself and one for our pastor. A very thought-provoking interview.

I do have a question as I'm working, is open communion (as in open to any not simply Baptized believers) the common practice of the GMC?
Yes. I am relatively certain that we have carried forward the sacramental theology of the UMC to the letter.
@plainspokenpod what are your thoughts on it?
