The Northeast Corridor or NEC runs on Advanced Civil Speed Enforcement System or ACSES in Cab signal speed control territory. MBTA equipment is authorized to 80 MPH on any stretch of track it serves with a speed limit greater than 80. Amtrak regional is authorized to 125 while the Acela can go up to 150.
It just saves time when they're making the consists to just throw together whatever is in the yard. They still use all bi-levels during rush hour (for the most part)
I am impressed how Amtrak does such a good job of NOT crashing into MBTA trains on the line. I take the Wickford train all the time and I never feel safe incase a train smacks us from the rear.
1:20:25 Amtrak Acela Express going to Boston - South Station.
Cool video.. and finally someone who doesn’t stop and start the video when the train arrives at a stop
I hate when people do that
I don't know why, but not that many trains go to Wickford Junction and no trains go there at all on the weekends!
Simple Supply and Demand rule. if Demand doesn't meet standards Supplies wont go there.
Crazy why MBTA goes so slow, considering the track allows MBTA to go way faster on this line...

Sure a far cry from over aged RDC's and beat up Boston & Albany stuff from the 1970's!
Why are MBTA trains a mix of Bi-Level and single-level coaches?

Yeah, MBTA likes to make a tossed salad for their consists unless, as MBTARailfan said, it's rush hour.
With the original bilevels they kept at least one single level car in every consist as none of those bi’s had toilets.

I wonder why MBTA is the only ones with that power?
you right behind the loco?
I can tell he was
