This made me cry because my dad just died 2 weeks ago. I fix pinball machines for a living, and the first state championship I ever won was on pinbot. Spend time with your dad while you can-
Nice Tribute Carey! I owned Barrys Dirty Harry a few years ago. I sold it to a local friend who would list it a few months after her bought it from me. My friend was shocked when Barry called and asked if it had a special mark on it. My friend said it did and Barry said, Hey that game used to be mine". Barry purchased it back so my buddy shipped it to him in Chicago. Thought some folks might enjoy knowing Barry got his game back after many years of it being away from him.
This is a huge shocker. I heard he was currently living in Texas and was trying to see if I could interview with him. he was always known as a humble guy with a good sense of humor. I love a lot of his Williams tables like Pinbot, Space Shuttle (one of my top pinball games) and Joust. One of my best buddies loves Gorgar and Doctor Who is one of my dad's favorite games. My condolences to his family. Thanks for sharing your stories and your Barry games.
My all-time favorite pinball machine, and by extension my window into real, non-virtual and even competitive pinball, was Junkyard. I saw it in a Red Robin (back when they still had arcades in their restaurants) at the start of 2010, not long after my grandmother had passed due to lung cancer. I fell in love with its theme and design. A year and a half later, I saw it again at a local pizzeria. I don't know how many quarters my brother and I pumped into it. By the end of 2012, my family bought that very same Junkyard from the pizzeria. I still own it to this very day, and I vowed to do everything in my power to ensure I keep it. It will forever be my favorite since it holds a special place in my heart. (And for those curious, my highest score is 639,460,820)
I did not know you were going to share photos. I would have posted a photo of the Bad Cats. My fell in love with this pin in 2016 and we searched for years until we located one in 2020. One day I hope to own a Dacula.
Thank you Cary. I own a Pinbot and love it. My High Speed pinball at TPF is at min 7:48. I have nothing but respect for Barry and appreciate all of the innovations and creations from him.
Great Tribute, Cary! Barry designed some amazing titles that I just connected with, probably more so than any other designer. I started working on a Hurricane about a month ago, it has even more sentimental value now. He will missed for sure! I'm also hoping that some of his designs from DeepRoot may see the light of day... Call me the off man out but I was intrigued with Food Truck :D
At the 3:50ish mark, is that a gun that I see on someone's hip? Barry would be proud! I've heard stories that he was a strong supporter of the 2nd Amendment.
“Hey old man , get out of here ! Huh? Dude that’s Oursler you dummy. “I love Williams games. In my collection I have Barracora, Blackout,Gorgar and Sorcerer. He was supposedly going to be at Texas Pinball Fest. My only regret is never staying in touch with collecting and attending Festivals over the years and getting to know these exemplary pinball designers. RIP Barry.
The first pin I ever played was Bram Stoker's Dracula. Still one of my favorit. Next to it standing was Who dunnit. I have some great memories from that time. We skipped school just to play those games and had a blast 😀👍
Very well done Cary. I best remember Barry by his smile at 2:23. What a good man that I considered a good friend. I will be restoring my BSD right down to the cabinet itself with a new playfield soon.
In the end you hate the game (Deep Root) but not the player (Barry Oursler) Nice tribute Cary!! Im gonna take a ride on The Comet and salute his pinball brilliance.. Godspeed Barry..
Nice gesture! Didn't know him but I know all his games, quite some classics! Picked up a Popeye 3 weeks ago. He will be remembered for a long time trough his games, I think thats a beautiful thought.
Limon sheets and Berry.. Ah man I think we should all get together with Steve Richie and George Gomez. And wrap them both in mylar so they don't die. DAMN IT. It's so crazy it just might work. But RIP BERRY love PINBOT and GORGAR.
Kathy should be able to retain his designs as his intellectual property. Unless he signed a Non disclosure but now that Deep fake, I mean root, is gone any contracts could be null and void. Depends on the state laws therein
He was such a nice guy...very humble! Thanks for the video Cary...loved the color turning Black and WHite...sweet touch
Little stuff like that is what other editors notice. ;)

Now Barry's dead too? Man, they're droppin' like flies!
