- Go for a ride with NRE's Tom Nelson in this great 65 Chevelle. Exciting action footage as well as walk arounds and undercarriage peeks. This new LSX twin turbo is likely to be popular with NRE's customers. An enormous amount of work has been put into this sleeper car. For some further video, see our previous video, "What's in the shop." at this link • Nelson Supercars. Cars... More info at nelsonracingeng... and nelsonsupercars.... Also go to VeritasdMovieSt....

Wow i love how the boost gauge is integrated in the dash, looks almost OEM
That's a great build. I love that you left it looking as stock outside as possible.
The pressure release and the giggles and all of that smoke.
Don't be haters
Tom Nelson is exceptional at what he does
Quality
Craftsmanship
Dependability
And just plain BADASS!!!!
I like the wheels I just got a set in 18x9 for my 64 vert. Don't care for how the rear wheel openings were modified in any way. Having the rear tires tucked up in there looks tuff.
Gets down the road quite well for a 50+ year-old car ! Awesome as usual, Tom !
Out of all the cars I have seen come from Nelson Racing, This is my favorite. A total sleeper that would smoke most cars on the road. I totally dig the paddle shifter in a 65 on top of the original looking body. The 63 tempest is my favorite killer, but that car would never get a challenge at a light. The 65 Chevelle would have more fun cruising around and blowing minds.
Love, the car, the paint job, the motor, the gauges are really nice too. Well done, very tasteful!
Best shot ever was the cars emerging from that hell behind him haha
You realize... having paddle shifters is sooo much quicker and better for racing and everything in general? This is an amazing piece of machinery and you should respect it.
My neighbor has one of your 427 TT Chevy engines in his '70 Chevelle. That thing is insane.
I think people have forgotten the definition of a sleeper. That beast is not even close! It's badass, though!
This is one of the best cars I have ever seen. Dream car. I love my turbo Miata but oh my.
That is one Beautiful Malibu SS! I love the Chevy Decal in the back window and the gauges! I love Malibus. I have 2 of them. My favorite one is a 2001 Chevy Malibu LS in Navy Blue. Was a present from Grandpa. That there is one sharp 65 Mali!
ugh this paddle shift would be awesome for me a paraplegic. I would love to lets these guys do their thing on a 63 Lincoln Contenintal convertible.
Nice little HOTROD ! Love the sleeper look . Let me know if you need a '76 Laguna project !! I have one rusting away that needs a little Twin Turbo upgrade ...
that is a fine looking '65 Malibu , with performance to match !!!
5:32 I recognize that street from your other videos, i'm sure they just love you in that neighborhood LOL
2021 still love this car
only thing that gives this car away is the intercooler piping under the front bumper.. really nice car
Very nice indeed! Definitely a nice sleeper. NRE always does a nice job. What you can do when you have the cash. Oh my.
Truly a awesome street sleeper.
Love this motor it's wonderful
being based on the 400 doesn't mean that it's old hardware. it's been updated and comes standarded electronically controlled which means that it can be easily tuned.
"....a miss in it under acceleration?" You kidding me? Jeez!!! It's hitting the rev limiter!
Thats what I'm talking about!! I love sleepers!
now thats what a car should be, FUN.. not all decked out on 22s looking pretty!!
This is still the coolest car I’ve ever wanted. If it still had the stock interior, it would be absolutely perfect for me. Love this. I think I’ve watched this 134 times over the years lol
Forecast dec 3 2010: partly cloudy in the morning and afternoon with spontaneous tire smoke among the suburbs, then possible thunderstorms in the evening.
the man is one of the best engine/supercar builders in the us your Mercedes means shit to him. the people that buy engines or cars from tom want to know what they can do these videos are for them.
Love the sleeper theme!!
You guys are truly masters on design and execution.
What kinda money is spent on a build like this?
I am partial to mopars, as I have a new 2014 RT with the T/A Package, and would like to do something like this build.
Being a car guy, there is not one build I've seen I didn't like!
You guy's are amazing!!
the cars at Drag Week are required to drive 3,000 miles in total to each drag strip and run the 1/4. The Fastest Street car in America runs adverages in the high 7s at around 200mph and is Larson's daily driver. it makes around 1200hp.
thank you sleeper expert. ill be looking ill be looking for your show in the future to show us real cars
So it has to be specific cars you work on or you can fit any of your engines to any car?
All the neighbors to NRE must be like, "Oh boy, here he goes again, doing that crop duster thing"
Wow, that was mature! Ever heard of a caps lock button??
You say in the video this LSX engine this is a 388 cubic inch motor, so I'm assuming this is the 6.2L 376 cubic inch LSX engine, did you have to do a slight bore on the block to punch it out to 388?, what were the factory hp ratings on this engine?, did this engine come with all forged internals like the LSX 454?, if this engine did come with forged internals, were you able to use them for this twin turbo application?, or did you have to swap them out for stronger forged internals?
Master of your trade!
A masterpiece!!
Driveline loss is mainly due to the weight of the flywheel and everything behind it, down to the wheels, and all the friction that occurs.
1,400 hp @ crank would probably mean maybe 1,200 hp at the wheels for a vehicle with strong but light drivetrain parts. For example, the 2013 Shebly GT500 has a mostly carbon fiber driveshaft and other light drivetrain parts compared to the Mustang GT or Boss, therefor it loses a bit less power from crank to wheels. The engine isn't spinning as much weight.
9:22 min The Door from the Car on the left side is open..
The man trys to get out to the fresh air :D
Lol@ cloud of smoke. You guys are the best!
a beautiful job guys. An awesome car
Great build and fun video. I also have a 65 SS but going with T76 Turbonetics, Big Stuff 3, 383 SBC and air to liquid IC to name a few. Can you say what brand and dimension those wheels are? That's the look I'm wanting. Awesome car guys and the paddle shifter is cool too.
Hey the jamnut wasn't tight to the tierod adjuster sleeve lol
yet another nre masterpiece =)
One clean racing machine!
The craziest mod on this car is AIR CONDITIONING! How the hell did they fit it in there?
Also, can you make a pass or 2 through my neighborhood. we are haveing some bad mosquito problems
i drive a civic and i liked it? some of us can't afford cars like this and hondas are a great way to get into tuning without lots of money.
This car is definitely like me a BEAST!!!!!!
Awesome man awesome car fabulous engine
Uhhh. Cars like this are made for a drag strip with slicks. Plus he had the shift time set like that on purpose. Did you miss the part where he said you can adjust it to do whatever you want? This car with the right set of tires is gonna shit on just about anything on the road.
That would be perfect in my 64 chevelle Malibeast
@bemil its one of those things - "if you have to ask, its too much"
dude your a badass! would love to have one of your motors
what size of turbo does this car have?
That's really awesome.
Is this running a 4l80E? Doubtful that the 4l60 can handle that power even after being rebuilt ...
Ten minutes of video....4 sets of tires used....God I love your builds lol.
a twin turbo that drives 'literally like a stock car'. why is that amazing?
Very nice car. I love chevelles
how much does a car complete like this one costs?
man that is one sexy car i love that sleeper best sleep i have seen by far
First dog to ever experience 1400hp 3:48 u can see the dog
I know this car was stolen back in the late spring/early summer.
Was it ever recovered? My buddy & I would really like to know.
If anybody knows anything please post it for all of us.
nelsonracingengines, how much power can be had, realistically, from a turbo lsx454 on 92 octane?
Some day I will have Tom build me a car/engine! :)
Where can i get a shifter like that
@3:25 smoke screen deployed mr wayne thank you alfred.
So what is the top speed?
How much for something like this? Nothing like it in AUS (I think).
This guy builds sick as fuck cars king of power
What is the price range on this type of set up if I'm providing the car ???
very cool but i do hate the way you push it till your on the rev limiter. fucken nice build but i do love it...
man the people that live on the street at 5.55 must hate these guys..haha...I wanna live there!!
Love how he lough
Damn what a beautiful car. If I win powerball tonight I'm gonna hit u up lol
They are from California and 91 is the highest availible pump gas in that state.
@kovacs88 a Prius?!?!?
yeah but does it come with Ac?....lol (just kidding) you guys just amaze me with your builds...congrats...
Awesome car bro any 1/4 times??
weight distribution?
Not sure which you'd go thru more of - gas or tyres!
Those were full frame cars, so it would be easy to to.
Whats the mpg highway??
Tom, I need you to add a turbo to my Yamaha Banshee please!
This Chevelle defines the word BadAss!
very nice but hate the hacked up rear fender wheels
I think it looks good stock but it needs buckets.I prefer the speeper look.
Come , come get you sum. Getter done !!!!!
No FAST intake?
who makes the wheels on this? their killer!
your a wizard tom
very nice
awesome car when he speaks about race gas is that pure ethanol ????
115 octane
Please, explain a 600hp loss through the drivetrain
yeah, but we're talking an NRE engine! anyway, I hope your dream comes true man! make it happen. I don't see it in my future, but that's my own fault lol
amazing 40 years ago a 600 horse Baldwin Motion camaro or vette was barely streetable.
Amazing!
