Being educated like an adult makes such a change from so much dumbing down prevalent in broadcasting with attempts to limit everything into 10 second sound bites. Well done Met Office!

So true - I found this Deep Dive fascinating, a change to dumbed down reporting of everything scientific/ technical to the point where it seems like primary school science (BBC please note!).

To everyone reading. Please support British farmers. They are suffering because of our awful government and this unusually poor weather. Buy local and keep the people who put food on your plates in business.

We are in the 9th continuous month of far wetter than usual weather in the South of the UK. I’m a farmer and this is something that greatly affects us and we take serious note of. All our crops are severely compromised as to their yield potential that it is now far too late to avoid, whatever the weather does from now on until September.
However, the more it continues to rain on already waterlogged ground, the even worse it will be.

I really hope that high pressure builds over the UK as a whole. We really really need some dry settled weather now, the ground on my allotment (clay soil) is still soggy and claggy like it is in mid-winter. It is ridiculous the way southern England has been ground zero for rain for pretty much most of the last nine months save for the occasional flooding storms in Scotland in autumn.

  • @davidbrayshaw6162

Yipeee! The rain has just cleared after hours and hours of rain! OMG the sun has come out!
Oh! Hang on here comes YET another front oh yeah! It’s raining again! But this one’s is different! It’s got wind with it and driving the rain straight into your face! Walk 1 step forwards blown 5 steps back while being soaked to the skin in the process!
So glad to see spring is here and summer is just around the corner? AND EVEN HEAVIER RAIN! And thunder and lightning! Because that sun really boosts that cloud formation! Oh the joys of living in the UK! Wonder which hour we’ll get our heatwave leading to a water shortage! Again! Happy days!

Hopefully some settled weather will occur with a higher confidence soon … also useful to understand the context and contributing factors.

Our rivers are suffering with excess sewage in this high rainfall period but the bonuses paid to the top cats are some consolation to the yacht salesmen of the world.
