Keyless entry, great fuel economy, Bose sound system and nice style (inside and out) "WOW's me just fine. Add 4x4 and all that under $25k. I'm happy. I don't get what a mini SUV needs to prove on a racetrack. Country and highway road handling is closer to the point, however, thanks for a well done and much appreciated review.
Great review yet again. I watch all the reviews from all the youtube guys and these guys do it best. Informative, lengthy review but yes they need more driving shots. Keep it up guys.
Just ordered a cx5 2.2 175 AWD Auto Sport. Loved the test drive I got to really got to chuck it about. Ordered in Soul Red got a 5 week lead time hopefully as the dealer needs to meet targets and get cars out the door. Seems to drive spot on.
i might see you around,i have also ordered the cx5 sport nav in soul red with the stone leather seats,im looking forward to getting mine in march although i have the 2,2 diesel 150bhp so i wont get into a race with you buddy, enjoy your new car all the same
I purchased this Mazda two weeks ago here in upstate NY and I do like it very very much. I have not, as if yet, had the experience of driving it in the snow but thus far my CX 5 is getting about 30 mpg-mostly highway. Paid $25,500 and plan to drive this for years to come. I am getting used to the push button start but must tell myself to not lock the keys inside. Good luck.
The cargo room is a little less generous though. My mom bought a new AWD CRV over this because the Honda had more room. The Mazda is still very nice though!
I honsetly believe that this is the best compact SUV on the market now! its got such a good quality interior, drivetrain and it looks great. The RAv4 and new CR-V are second !
I was really hoping there would be better power coming out of an engine this size with a 13:1 comp ratio. 150 isn't really competitive in the segment. Can't argue with the combined fuel economy though, that blows everything else out of the water. The closest is the Chevy Equinox at 22 city 32 hwy. I will be taking this out for a test drive over spring break, really wish they would have taken the adaptive cruise control from the cx-7 and put it in here.
It is the same weight (well, a difference of 11 pounds) as the Mazda 6. Add to that the stiffer body and suspension than it's competition, and it's really no surprise it behaves well. Of course one should expect a bit more lean than a 3 or 6 due to the higher center of gravity. In short, there are no SUVs in this price range that handle like this. I really wish they offered the 2.5 liter engine with a manual transmission.
This thing has the compression ratio of an Indy race car! Does it require avation fuel? With that high a ratio, it's not going to run on regular fuel without knocking, or am I wrong?
hey nismofury guy, how much honda pay you? have you tested mazda cx-5? i have used this car for 2 month, with manual mode it will transform all the power it have, n more2x powerfull than my old cr-v
+Mani00 no, i stayed with my old car, hyundai tuscon, because i still owed money on it, but i did test drive the CX5, it seems alright over rough roads, ride seems composed, i might get it this spring because i can trade my tucson now and not at a loss
Acceleration into traffic is ok. Passing power is non existent. Engine makes a lot of noise but thats about it. You need plenty of room to pass cuz its going to take you awhile. But its an eco cuv so i guess the 30 mpg i saw on the dash makes it worth it but i rather have a drop in mpg to pass a little faster when i have the pedal to the floor. All the models i saw had a screen w camera but no nav. I dont get it. Is it an upload feature? Price was almost $28k 2wd no nav. Best mpg cuv to get thou
The company's name comes from the Japanese deity "Ahuramazda", creator of the world, source of light (hence the old sun/flame emblem) and embodiment of good. When spoken in japanese, it sounds like "mah", or mahz-dah. At least from what I have heard. If someone says this in a spanish accent, would you be so rude and accuse them of butchering it? American english differers from the British dialect, because we're an entirely separate country (US war of Independence, anyone?). So cool it.
I was thinking of getting a Hyundai but I'm a bit skeptical because of its credibility. They really weren't known for durability or anything before and now they hp hp and high mpg for such a cheap price so now it's just...hard to believe lmao! Tell me about it when you get one
Err! if you don't like his review ... errr! you can do your own reviews ... however, what you are referring to is NOT UHH or AHH or OHH it is ERR ... this is the proper English. Instead of how he speaks, you should focus on your shortcomings and try to "correct" them. You yourself are quite errnoying.
@tungol00 Not really. Your paying for a Diesel engine that will not return good enough fuel economy to justify the price. The Diesel will add at least another 1500 to 2000 dollars to the price of the car and it is an extremely low comp ratio diesel since it is essentially the same engine as the gas version and running similar comp ratio. Most diesels are well over 20:1 comp ratio. The diesel is already here in Japan and it doesn't do much better than the petrol, diesel prices are higher than gas
@flatblackstrat Well yeah in Japanese they do, but I know I have seen videos of Japanese Mazda representatives who say "Mazda" when they speak English. The point anyway is the first syllable, which in both cases is "mah" not "maaaa."
it's pretty fucking annoying how people ALWAYS comment on the way to pronounce car brands...it really depends where you're from. who gives a shit seriously you know it's Mazda
Search for SKYACTIV-G engine on youtube, there are videos that explain how this new engines work with the highest compression ratio on the market and using regular fuel ;)
"Mazda's have always had nice interiors..." That's not true at all. I own a 1995 Miata which has a fantastic interior (black and tan two-tone full leather interior). The latest Mazda's have been a sea of hard plastics. That's not so say the interior isn't durable (which it is), but is looks and feels cheap. I still like the CX-5, however. Like the Miata, it is meant as a low-horsepower nimble vehicle. The fun is in revving it to death and chucking it into corners.
Looks ok still a little soccer momish needs a little more aggressive styling to push it over the top. Interior is nice plenty of room. Plenty of headroom for sure. Like the pull lever drop seat backs. The dash is rather dull. Seems dated. Seating position is a little awkward. Get into position and you cant see the dash panel. You adjust the steering wheel and your steering like a bus. Review mirror is too small. Brake and gas pedals are a little too close together.
Technically, the Japanese say "MAHZ-da" with an "ah," so "Mazda" with a short a sound instead of "ah" sound would be the more incorrect pronunciation. No offense to our Canadian friends of course, since neither of us is accurately replicating the true Japanese sound in any event.
@Arundodonax No not at all...I am an Aussie and have visited the States twice...both for 3 months...we thought it was rather funny how the Americans pronounced Mazda and Nissan....the Mazda sounded like there was an "R" in it and the Nissan sounded like there they were saying "neesan"...or like "neece"....was very funny listening to them.
wow, Mazda Canada also pronounces their name like this, as well as most other Canadians -.- yes Mazda USA pronounces it a different way than Mazda Canada....
motormusique , come buy 1 for europe :) i drove this car and i liked it. the way i see it "Skyactive" may not he so impresive but i am happy that i can pay 10 euros for every 100 km insted of 13 euros (like most suv) so from my point of view :)) Go "Skyactive" :)) the transmition was very good and feeling inside the car was nice atleast for the 3h i had it. gl to every1
Mazda really likes to shoot itself in the foot. They pride themselves as the "zoom zoom" brand, but only offer a manual on base trim levels. The whole point of buying an SUV is to get a practical vehicle with AWD. The only reason I would buy a Mazda SUV over a Toyota SUV is b/c the Mazda is supposedly more fun, but they won't let me get a manual with AWD. Easiest decision ever to buy a Subaru Forester. Mazda is only good for the Miata (which I own).
stop arguing how to pronounce mazda... it's called MATSUDA in japan, which is a typical Japanese family name. guess how many people in the world could pronounce porsche 100% precisely
I guarantee you the interior WILL wow me haha. I drive a 92 geo metro. I like what you said about who they are marketing this vehicle to. It fits my situation perfectly. Get married in August! I have a short film on the CX5 on my channel. Please check it out :) I have actually entered it in with Mazda and am a semi-finalist to win a cx5, I'd appreciate any support, thanks!
ok.. I saw this today and really really disappointed. I saw the premium model with all the acces and features but... Look is so beautiful but leather seats are really really cheap.... I mean if somebody is spending 30 grand they wont accept that shitt... At presently I have 2003 Volvo S40... and was thinking to buy this.. but This is a really disappointment if you are looking for beautiful stuff. Anyway, video is so attractive.
@LeadHammer hey, whiny guy, learn to google...here's a search term for you: mazda cx-5 trunk...search that and voila there are plenty of images of the seats folded...quit bashing a good review over minutia...
Ahura Mazda is the name of the supreme god of the Zoroastrian religion that came out of ancient Persia. If you go to the Wikipedia entry for Mazda, it references this, as well as the name of the founder of Mazda Corporation, named Jujiro Matsuda.
Keyless entry, great fuel economy, Bose sound system and nice style (inside and out) "WOW's me just fine. Add 4x4 and all that under $25k. I'm happy. hands down best review of the cx5
I've never heard anyone say MAZ-da - thanx jaowseph!
Great review yet again. I watch all the reviews from all the youtube guys and these guys do it best. Informative, lengthy review but yes they need more driving shots. Keep it up guys.

finally!!! a mazda that isnt smiling at me
I purchased this Mazda two weeks ago here in upstate NY and I do like it very very much. Its been 9years now. Will you advice someone to buy this car in 2021? How was your experience with this car?
The cargo room is a little less generous though. My mom bought a new AWD CRV over this because the Honda had more room. The Mazda is still very nice though!
I honsetly believe that this is the best compact SUV on the market now! its got such a good quality interior, drivetrain and it looks great. The RAv4 and new CR-V are second !

@italiankilla58 This is absolutely not related to the new Ford Escape... it is a new skyactiv design...
Yes! I want one of these, and every time I find one I like... It gets SOLD! Great cars!

hey nismofury guy, how much honda pay you? have you tested mazda cx-5? i have used this car for 2 month, with manual mode it will transform all the power it have, n more2x powerfull than my old cr-v
Thank you - for the first useful review on this vehicle
I'm thinking of getting this, but i'm worried about the bumpy ride, what did you think of the ride?
did you buy it?
+Mani00 no, i stayed with my old car, hyundai tuscon, because i still owed money on it, but i did test drive the CX5, it seems alright over rough roads, ride seems composed, i might get it this spring because i can trade my tucson now and not at a loss
Ins't there a override on locks when the key is detected inside???
This guy is a great reviewer!
going car shopping tomorrow. Have to check this one out. My other choice would probably be the kia sportage.
Look pretty good. If they make a topless version of it, I am trading my MX-5 for this.
@TheRosharma I read reviews that say that it takes about 9.3 seconds.
Love his pronunciation of MAzda.
Excellent Review! Zoom Zoom!
Vancouver, Canada? Is that like Los Angeles, USA, or New York, USA?
How big was it?
I don't need "wow" from my interior, I need nice to look at and easy to use and that's was Mazda does!
Acceleration into traffic is ok. Passing power is non existent. Engine makes a lot of noise but thats about it. You need plenty of room to pass cuz its going to take you awhile. I don't see anything wrong with the way he's saying Mazda. I quite like this CX-5. If only they had a 6 speed manual with the AWD!
The company's name comes from the Japanese deity "Ahuramazda", creator of the world, source of light (hence the old sun/flame emblem) and embodiment of good. You yourself are quite errnoying.
@tungol00 The other engine will be a Diesel with a turbo. That model will also cost a lot more.
@italiankilla58 read the chicago tribune review... completely unrelated
Gotta be a Boston boy with that Maaz-da business lol
@tungol00 Not really. Your paying for a Diesel engine that will not return good enough fuel economy to justify the price. Engine has cupholders.
That was driving me nuts too...
What's a MAZZ-DA?
1:05 lol nice bucket

great review.
nice review
@flatblackstrat Its only a starting engine they will a turbocharged engine in the future.
Don't mess it up for our Canadian brothers, that's just how they say it up there. Nonetheless a nice vehicle.

it looks nice
26 city? thats better than the 2013 chevy malibu mild hybrid!
whats a MAHZDUH
@Arundodonax
No not at all...I am an Aussie and have visited the States twice...both for 3 months...we thought it was rather funny how the Americans pronounced Mazda and Nissan....the Mazda sounded like there was an "R" in it and the Nissan sounded like there they were saying "neesan"...or like "neece"....was very funny listening to them.
this is completely brand new
Love it!
@26scorpio66 I think you're thinking of the English accent.
Put all this tech into a redesigned new model 3 and Ill buy one.
I would say "uhh" a lot too if I was driving on a race track and reviewing a car at the same time.
I wouldn't even consider one of these with such low power output. Where is the diesel Mazda?
wait for CX-5 with skyactiv-D+6MT
wooow mazdacx5 best SUV.................
He's pronouncing it the way it sounds in the whole world except for in the US where they pronounce it "Mozda"
wow, Mazda Canada also pronounces their name like this, as well as most other Canadians -.- yes Mazda USA pronounces it a different way than Mazda Canada....

i dont understand what you mean.
Is it just me or does the sides of this mazda looks like a bmw x3?
@Bobbymustangrx8
(Sportage 2.0T 260 hp, 269 ft lbs torque) < (CX-5 165 hp, 340 ft lbs of torque)
nothing wrong with saying "uhh"

It is practical dumbass. That's your clueless opinion.
wtf why is there an suv on the track?
he pronounces it exactly the way it's spelt, but i've always been pronouncing it as "mahzda"
stop arguing how to pronounce mazda...
it's called MATSUDA in japan, which is a typical Japanese family name.
guess how many people in the world could pronounce porsche 100% precisely
It's Mazda, not Mahzda...
Where did this guy learn how to say Mazda?
pretty car :)
It's Mazda as in MAW! As in MAH! MAW-zdah!!!
I guarantee you the interior WILL wow me haha. I drive a 92 geo metro. I like what you said about who they are marketing this vehicle to. It fits my situation perfectly. Get married in August! is this guy American or Scotish?
MAHZDA
hyundai gas mileage ratings are exaggerated and that thing won't last, trust me
ok.. I saw this today and really really disappointed.

Guys, it's because he's canadian

From 1:06 the guy says "uhh" 28 times in under five minutes. Uhh that uhh is Uhhnoying.
his accent reminds me of Jeremy Clarkson imitating american accent
@Arundodonax The Japanese say Ma Tsu Da. マツダ.
@flatblackstrat I know who cares if it cost a lot more. What you pay is what you get.
thats what youd think but ive never seen one in real life
The Kia sportage makes 260 hp get in the game zoom zoom!
No, no. Canadians say Maaazda, Americans say Mahzda. I think it's the English who say Mazdaer. Ok, maybe southerners too...
Mado la mia piccola :-)
you are pronouncing Mazda incorrectly.
Canadian...
wow
Mahzdah.....funny.
what the hell is with the Mehzduh?? can't you just say Mazda??
