it is AMAZING! I am a Chinese studying in theuk. this is my first year to have chinese new year abroad..i do miss home....55555555 i love when they walking slowly among the lanes..so beautiful...like in a dream...they represent the girls from waterdown in China... I am so proud of it!~~~~
everything was superb and tramendous,..,. im happy to watch this kind of dance., congrate to all the dancers, krews and the choreographer.,., beautifull dance perfomance..,.,
oh i understand that... have no idea why i have so many negative ratings on this comment haha... china has 1.3 billion people, so of course there are many tall beautiful chinese girls... what i said is that most chinese dancers are about 5'4 or 5'5 yet they look so thin and elegant. and you are spot on about southern chinese... i think northern people are generally taller. and i met some japanese, they're not so short anymore, and japanese girls are so cute, demur and respectful!
Does her teacher have other videos available also. This is such a beautiful video. Do you, or does anyone else, know if her teacher sells DVDs of this and other dances this teacher has created?
HOLY CRAP. I'M DOING THIS DANCE FOR 2010 CHINESE NEW YEAR. I EVEN HAVE THAT SAME COSTUME AND UMBRELLA. this dance is A LITTLE different than what we are doing. ours is slightly easier. BUT OH MY GOD.
Just a comment on the probable height of the dancers. Given the 1.3 billion population, there are standards in place as to height. Given the number of prospective future dancers available for higher level training with comparable talent, I was told by my stepdaughter who was accepted into a music conservatory as one of 160 dance students (20 students per each of 8 classes in a given year, 2 classes consisting of males.) accepted each year, that minimum height was 5' 7". She herself was 5' 8". Given that the year of this performance was 2007, and these appear to be elite dancers performing at the top Chinese New Year's venue, those height standards may well have been in place at the time. My stepdaughter did her graduation recital in 2010, did her year internship and graduated in 2011. Understand similar height requirements exist for models (no one under 6'), and airline stewardesses (no one over 5' 6"). When you have a pop of 1.3 bill and growing, you can afford to be choosy. Woe unto those without looks or height. I guess you end up as the owner and CEO of Ali Baba. lol.
The performers aappear to be members of the Nanjing PLA (Peoples Liberation Army) dance troupe. For non-Chinese, the music is titled "Small village in the rain" or a "Rainy day in a small village". Nice and memorable choreography. The group performed a 2 min., 44 sec. version in a national competition. Not as nice as this one with its back-projected scenes and moving "houses".
