This is Ghana's 17th trip to the IMF to stabilize Ghana's economy. Did Russia invade Ukraine 16 times in the past 16 years? Did Covid-19 strike the world each year for the past 16 years? If Ghana cannot pay the interest for its current, externally funded loans, it stands to reason that Ghana will not be able to pay the added cost of a new IMF loan and will be returning to the IMF for another loan.
The Ghanaian government is simply borrowing too much capital from the IMF. An unprecedented 18th time of borrowing. This is embarrassing. How can the people rely on a government and its administration when they are demonstrating this much incompetence at the highest level? It’s just insane. There needs to be more stringent accountability for these types of circumstances to prevent these types of crisis’ from happening again. There needs to be better logic and planning in how the financial economy is managed.
