  • As Pittsburgh’s cost of living continues to rise, we look at gentrification and its impact on the city’s marginalized communities. When developers descend on Pittsburgh’s neighborhoods, who stands to gain and lose? How has it affected the city’s population? And who is working to make positive change?
Racism, police brutality, disparities in education, careers, health care, economic opportunity, business and housing - are just some of the issues that have long plagued Pittsburgh's marginalized communities. WQED's video documentary series hopes to create dialogue by sharing the thoughtful voices of a diverse group - different backgrounds, different ideas, different goals - all working towards equity.

This is happening across the US. I've been low-income for most of my adult life and I have had to keep moving even to other states only to find that those states are also undergoing gentrification and more people are displaced. I'm glad people are fighting back. It reminds me of Jane Jacob's fight against a big developer in NYC in the 1960s. They won the fight more than one time.

Build more expensive properties as the new residents will pay more tax, which benefits the city and push out the peasants to reduce crime and make it even more enticing for those on higher incomes.
