I love the comments about Strava. I fell into the trap of comparing myself to others and running too hard every workout to "kill it" and kept getting injured. Several years later, I will "like" others' workouts, but I don't really pay attention to their workouts anymore. I focus more on doing my workouts the right way, and I've been able to avoid injuries and see real progress lately
Strava is really about you vs yourself. Don't worry what the others are up to, there's always someone out there that is going to be faster or putting in more hours.
I made sure to only follow like minded runners on Strava and my max follow number was 25. I choose carefully so i could benefit from their training sessions and likewise they of mine. Too many treat Strava to be a social platform and love their kudos on efforts and not as a training tool. To each their own.
You are gonna have to remember that any person will not continue to improve ~greatly over time no matter what the training is that they are doing .. If this was not true, we would all set world records by just running over time. What should happen is runs get ~easier, meaning we are not in the same level of ~agony when running at the same previous paces \ HRs we have endured before. -- Whether you have more speed or not will also depend on your faster, more painful running *coupled* with staying injury free. Make no mistake, being consistent over time will absolutely help your mental and physical being. This is a goal we all should strive for and appreciate. Writing or reading someone words off a web site, is really BS, unless you have a professional stake in the pie. You have no way of knowing if the words out there or *true* or even written by a *real* person. BOTS are real aspect of our lives today.
Just wanna add that Parry mentioned running on different sides of the roads in an effort to *not* apply same forces to the same muscles on each run... If you are doing those high mileage runs, swap sides of the road at least to change the pounding your legs are receiving. -- Those runs of over an hour will need recovery time for sure... Shoes will wear out over time also so be aware of that also..
One time when using Strava on a trail, it acted wonky and said I ran a mile in under three minutes, and that I did a downhill stretch at under two minutes per mile, so I deleted that run. If your ego insists upon such false gratification, maybe you aren't ready for it.
MAF is incredibly self-contradictory. Maffetone insists that his program is individualized, but he keeps using the ridiculously inaccurate 220 minus age formula as a basis for his number. Any age-based formula is wrong for 35% of the population and wrong by double digits for 10% should be discarded. Jim Ryun had a MHR of 240 when he was 21, so MAF would have had him at 66% MHR. Hal Higdon had a MHR of 130 at age 65, so MAF would have had him at 88% MHR.

That's how I feel about it. Just use it for tracking my miles, and if I happen to get a PR, great.

I have a friend who is 60 and can't run at 120bpm. Thanks for the extra 10bpm! Great idea.

Absolutely right about the lost skill of knowing effort and distance.

Coach Parry sounds like he has a cold?
I think it's the new mic. sponge. Also new hair cut and style to deal with :)
