My most used camera is an Olympus E-M5 Mark 2 and I honestly can't imagine needing more. It does everything I need it to do and I'm sure it does many things I don't even know about. I used it this past weekend during a trip to Philly and was amazed again at it's ability to shoot hand held at low shutter speeds in very little light. It's aesthetically pleasing to me and just a joy to use in every sense. My "if I just want to grab one camera and go" camera is a Canon G7X Mark 2 which takes very nice images and is pocket sized. I don't know if it does anything better than my wife's phone (one of the new google whatevers), but I enjoy it just the same. I feel about film photography much the same way I feel about vinyl records - lived through it and don't really want to go back. I have an old OM-2n from when I was a teenager that I still use on occasion - it's a lovely piece of kit and is good for a drive down Nostalgia Lane - but not much more for me.
The joy of photography - no one on You Tube explains it or illustrates it more than Craig. His videos are always about using cameras and lenses creatively never about equipment per se. Constantly inspiring. My everyday camera? A Fuji XE4 plus 23mm lens.
The camera and lenes I can't do without are my trusty Canon 70D and every time I go out even if its to the local shop I take my Canon 50mm F1.8 or my Canon 24mm F2.8 pancake lens. I really love shallow depth of field and very dark black and white. For me I get a real kick out of taking black and white images of the most mundane of things. I have other lenes but these two are my go to.
Hi Craig! My only camera is my Nikon D7000. It is a bit of a beast! You know when you've been carrying it or had it around your neck for a few hours! But I do genuinely love it. I've always wanted something a bit smaller and lighter though. Something I could just slip into a coat pocket. It's just affording it! You know how expensive photography can get!
Judging from the number of images on my iPhone it is clearly my camera of choice. It’s pretty handy for capturing the beautiful sunrises we get in southeast Missouri while on my early morning bike rides.
For may daily walks my camera of choice has become my Olympus EM1 mk i with 3 manual lenes - the cheap and good TT Artisian 25mm F2.0, the OM vintage lens 50mm F1.8, and the OM vintage lens 135mm F3.5, this fits nicely into a small messanger bag and I love the finish look from the vintage lens, even when my focus is a little off. My true jeans pocket carry, is the Olympus TG-5 (it rains here alot and soon it will be - 25 C with snow :) . Another great video, cheers from central Ontario Canada.
My main is the Fuji X-T3 with the 23mm and 35mm f/2 fujicrons. I also have a Nikon FM2n and an Olympus Trip. Lovely cameras all. I am considering the Ricoh GRIII but can't decide between the 28mm and 40mm equivalent versions and don't think I can justify having both.
Thanks Craig for another fascinating video. It’s always a pleasure listening to your views on photography. For me I would say the Fuji x100s is my favourite camera. Thank you once again for your inspiration.
Great thoughts again. I guess it‘s also about dedicated photography (and the nyes, an Olympus or two) but on travel documentary and „opportunistic“ shots the iPhone does great. 2 weeks, 3 cities in Canada and 90% of the shots the iPhone did very well. Plus being so light, unobtrusive and still flexible enough.
My Olympus Pen FV from the '60s is my EDC at the moment. The 38mm f/1.8 is a lovely lens. It's a little heavy, and half frame (so it takes forever to finish a roll). It does go with me everywhere lately. if we're having a day out, and my other half has been lacking some nice dog photos (for the socials), I'll take my Oly EM5.
I use a Nikon D780 with a 50mm most of the time, and when I want all options I get a 35mm and a 85mm. Not so small but get easily in any messenger bag. Very light thanks to the plastic built, also robust and quite resistant to rain.
For me my Xt20 most always, reliable, other times the Panasonic Lumix TZ95D fits in handbag & great images, otherwise my Nikon Z50 or Z7ii. Love them all for different reasons. I don’t feel as bad with number of cameras looking at your stable of choices.
Sony A200 for me ,love it , not the latest camera I know but It gives me great pleasure. It was a 25 year gift from work so means just that little bit more.Been all around the world with me.
Not yet,my photographic skills are limited to colour, may be tempted further down the line when I can visulize a photograph in Black and White. Thanks for your comment.@@e6Vlogs
Unless I'm going to need a high ISO, I no longer take a dedicated camera with me when heading out. I've always liked the image's from my phone, but since finding RAW on my Huawei P30 Pro I just don't need to take a camera with me anymore. I can use all 3 of the phones lenses in RAW and I always use manual mode. I get 79mb files that are filled with information. Once edited, the files are good enough to be printed. I have some 16in x 10in and some 12in x 12in and they look superb. I also love the fimic look to the images. I don't know if it's down to the slightly different arrangement of the bayer filter (normally you get RGGB, the P30 is RYYB). It just produces a lovely, slightly warmer look and reds, oranges etc come off really nicely. I've still got my various cameras and I use them for dedicated shoots, but for every day, I'm sorted.
You’ve got a really nice lineup. Original EM10 is my EDC alongside the EM1 mark II (too big for EDC IMO). For film I like the Canonet QL17 and also pleasantly surprised by Canon Sure Shot Tele 80. Have a Fujica Half on the way in the mail so I’m excited. Also have Canon EF Black Beauty, and adding Minolta SRT 101 along with original Olympus OM1 35mm film SLR’s.
For me it's the Sony A7c with the Tamron 28-75 f2.8 for family and travel photos. I might add a prime or two depending on the occasion. However, for "slow" shooting I enjoy the Canon RP with old manual Konica primes: 28mm f3.5, 40mm f1.8, 135mm f3.5. The rendering and microcontrast especially of the 28 and 40 are absolutely beautiful.
My pocket camera is the Canon G9X. My belt case camera is the Sony RX100 IV, which I picked up at a flea market for $50. I don't use my phone much, since I can't see the screen in bright sun.
Hi Craig, the camera i use is the Nikon D3100 with an 18-55mm lens, a 50mm f/1.8, a 40mm Micro f/2.8, a 55-200mm and my favourite lens is the 35mm f/1.8. The only limitation it has is the Movie mode apart from that it produces great image quality. Great point you made when you said the camera you use should be user friendly and most importantly enjoyable to use, and my Nikon D3100 is user friendly and very enjoyable to use. The Level 42 Album, Wow haven't seen that Album since the 1980's. 😃
Interesting video. I am looking around for an EDC but I can't shoot without a viewfinder and would prefer raw, but those are hard to find at a reasonable price. THx
Fuji 100V (bought it on day one so not because of the overhype now) or the Lumix LX 100ii. Fuji mainly for urban/travel, the Lumix for hiking. Enjoyed the video.
Oh, okay. My daily carry camera on this evening’s post work walk was a LUMIX GF1 and a Panasonic 12-32mm lens. Nearly as small as a GR, slightly wider than a GR and has a moderate telephoto. Alternatively, I could have taken a Nikon D2x, which is just a tiny bit bigger.
I shoot with a Sony HX90 & RX100 mkiii, they are always with me (a whole camera system in 2 compact bodies) a Canon M5 and a good range of EF-M lenses for days out when photography isn't the main aim of the day and a Canon R & R3 and a range of RF-L and EF-L lenses (R3 has just died and gone in for repair) when it's a dedicated photography day................My passion used to be motorcycles, since I've not been able to ride I've gone back to photography and spend rather too much indulging my hobby 🙃If I had to chose just one it would be the R3, it's an awesome bit of kit.......When it's not broken
Being a tropical island dweller, my phone will be cooked up before I realized it. Especially this month, the weather is harsher than ever, UV lv.11 for most of the day. I will stick up with something with viewfinder 😅
I have only 1 camera and that’s a Panasonic G9. Most of the time this will have the very versatile Panasonic 12-35f2.8 mk II attached to it, but I do love the Panasonic Leica 15mm f1.7 for a more focused carry.
Got the Canon EOS 6D mark ii and a Canon EOS m10 I mostly take my m10 with me as it is ideal for anything. My fullframe is great for landscape and nature. The small one is easier to take with me I work in care amd need a small camera for whenever I see something I need to capture. My phone does not have a great camera. And I love this little camera. Never liked the m50. And this I can film and vlog with if I want.
Hi Craig, is it complicated to scan negatives or slides with a digital camera? Would love to see a video about how you do it... Btw, does scanning with a digital camera give the same results (especially colours) than with a proper film scanner?
Not complicated and very quick, but helps to have the right kit. There’s software to give you accurate colours, but I’m only shooting b&w, so made my own preset.
Awkwardly enough my EDC is a GFX50R paired with the GF50/3.5; the files are to die for and that shutter sound! Recently I‘ve been tempted by the upcoming Nikon ZF, but in the end it is even heavier than my Fuji (and half the resolution…)
From the comments, one can see, that you have been an Olympus user channel until recently 😊 (actually this is not true, I perceived you first and foremost as a channel about _photography_, not about Olympus gear, that's why I follow you even though I never used an Olympus) 😉
I love panasonic Micro 4/3 cameras. They 'do it' for me. I currently use a Sony A7 with old manual lenses but have just bought a Panasonic G100 which is pretty much perfect!!!!!! I had a Holga and loved the results but don't like the process of processing film even if I send it away, however the results are unique. Maybe I'll get another one and give it another go!
Well, as one of the cameras I currently own is the EM1, I’m not sure what you mean by that. The ‘creative years’ you speak of, well, I guess, they just happened to be when I was shooting Olympus. What about my creative years before that, when I was shooting Canon? Do they not count either?
