Good Job. There are hundreds of videos showing LED bulb installs, but no one really tests them or knows how LEDs work. You match the LED with the lens, which is perfect. I found that LEDs were brighter for the FJ in the OEM housing, but the throw distance was not so good. I think it is best to do what you had done in the video.
Great video-thanks! Just finished the installation on my 2013 TTSE in a hair over 2 hours. These are going to be great for night drives up here in the north woods. I changed/added two things: 1. I didn't bundle the wires until AFTER I plugged everything in, just to be sure I had enough slack for everything 2. AFTER TESTING: I zip-tied the wire harness to the frame in front of the radiator and zip-tied the wire bundles inside to keep 'em from rattling around. Thanks again for the excellent video. I'm subscribed now.
I'm glad I came across this video during my research on FJ front light LED upgrades. I definitely will go with the Freedom Retrofit versus just switching out the bulbs.
What I like to do for aiming is mark off 25’, facing a garage door, with tape marking the old lights pattern. Then try to aim to the same height. It speeds up aiming.
Watching your lumarex install video about year ago, I copied and was excited, not until I saw people flashing there high beams at me 🤣🤣 . I still think they are ok, but I'm always cringing when I blind oncoming traffic. I've been thinking of "projector headlights ", I think you guys sold me on it 👍. Thanks for another awesome fjcruiser video.. editing my comment, after going on freedom retrofit website, seeing prices, I think I'll stick with my blinding lumarex lights 🤣🤣
Those look great. I too made the switch to LEDs in my stock housing but never knew how to disable my daytime running lights module. Thanks for that and now I can drive through campgrounds at night without pissing everyone off and hopefully 2021 will provide me with better finances so I can buy these lights as they look awesome.
@@WanderlostOverland One more question do the new headlights have a little more heat to them than the LED's? I have had issues when driving in wet snowstorms of the lights being covered in snow and freezing because the LED bulbs do not have as much heat and do not melt the snow while driving.
Great video! I had a 2010 FJ with LED bulbs and like you said, in the halogen housing, the light went everywhere. Another great tip, is inserting the Phillips screwdriver from the top, hence the teeth on the screw🙈. I tried squeezing a ratchet behind on another vehicle and couldn't fit it; ugg! Thanks for that information. Buying another FJ in the next month and I'll be calling for a custom set of projectors.
I had not seen these video I had a bad experience with headlights from ebay and the people that did the job made a big mess really bad did not know what to do until I saw your video I just a product that is really good quality
Thank you for you’re great work. I have a ‘08 FJC and am ordering from Freedom Retrofit. I have been looking for replacement headlights. Can’t wait to install them!
Great mod guys, I’d like this for my FJ... I’d like to see a 6 month review to see if y’all have ant moisture in the housing after a few months of using.
I agree with this. 1 less issue to deal with in the future. I ordered something similar, just the projectors with HID kit, no other lighting option within the headlight 👍👍
Thank you dopr you vedio. thatb realy help. biut i need you help. Can you so me how do i find the 2 pronger coming from a main wiring harness to actvates the H/L beam? I can not find in my FJ 09
@@WanderlostOverland Please hepl out!! I did what you told me. But that hole bunch wires inside the tube. Its come out from the fuse box. I realy dont know what 2 wire I have to make connect. Please give me more detail...Please!!!! if you some pic would be better easy for me... this is my email cuongphan0473. yahoo....com
New high beams are not any better than OEM 🤷🏻. Did you tried leds in FJ’s housing? Seems like they are in your 4Runner. Mine leds works fine, the light aiming is even sharper than OEM, but they are not any more powerful. 😕
Light output is DOT regulated. The cleaner cutoff means they’re actually brighter. Link up off-road lights to your high beams if you want them super bright. I have Baja designs squadron pros s4 wide cornering and I can see 15 feet off the road for deer
Just picked up an FJ and from northern Illinois, looking for recommendations on FJ groups or awesome people to hit trails with in Illinois or Wisconsin.
That's the appeal of Freedom retrofits. They can custom make anything you can think of. If you're wanting exactly what we have, just ask them for the Wanderlost lights.
Did your led bulbs in the standard housing have the little shield thingy covering half the led? So it kind of directs the light. Also did your standard headlights have the height adjustment you can change from inside the car? In Australia they do, must have a little motor on them. I also haven’t seen any aftermarket headlights for a rhd Fj 😞
😂 it’s just like a little roller type thing inside one of the switches near the key numbered 1-5 I think so you can adjust height any time. Mainly for when you have people or a load in the back so you don’t blind people. Nobody seems to use it though! A lot of cars in aus have it.
The original designs come and go, but they have newer versions available. They do have a long lead time, however - mine took about 8 months to arrive. The wiring has been simplified as well; they are basically "plug-and-play" straight into the factory plugs. You no longer need to ground the lights or run a harness between the two units.
2 things come to mind when watching these headlights being installed. 1. Any manufacturer who wants you to disable your day time running light to help with longevity of the led?? Really?? That usually makes me wonder how good is the LED if they tell you that. And my second observation was that the wiring looked like crap and at 1 point in your video you can see bare wire or tap sticking out of the plug in? My only questions where were these made and is there a warranty of any kind. Seems like you were pushing them hard to the viewers I would of thought that those things might have been revealed in the video. I own a fj a 2010 and I use stock housing with just good bulbs. To me the money would of been better spent on a nice set of either driving lights or off road lights. But hey that's just me.

I LOVE this channel, best FJ material out there
Glad you enjoy it!
Another great video! About to upgrade from stock so this is good info. Really helpful explaining the negatives of using LEDs in the stock housing.
Awesome, thank you!
Thank you for this video, I just picked up the FJ Cruise Apollo Headlight (Special Edition) Should look awesome with my resident evil theme.
That's going to look great!
I really like these lights, especially that they don't look like every other FJ light out there...but crap they are expensive!
I stay for the out takes 😊. Great video thanks ! 🇺🇸
You and me both!
Boy you make it so easy, thank you for the great videos. You should write a book “FJING for Dummies”

Glad it was helpful!
Any idea what size the factory bolts are for the grounding wires?
I am running into an issue with these where the lights are angled too high and I've adjusted them as low as they will go. Any solutions?
seems like a necessary mod to me! my stock FJ headlight barely light up anything at all even in the cities and they're already upgraded PIAA bulbs...
These are definitely the best way to get better light!
Really nice .. question . Why is the new harness has what seem to be resistor ? Thanks
I believe that's the "switch back" module.
Hi there love your videos....i own a 1999 toyota 4 runner, could you give me some advice how to make my alternator waterproof for going offroad?

Thank you. I will try
