This movie sounds like some people today. I actually can’t believe how relevant this movie is today. They wouldn’t have to change much if the made a TV show out of it.
I realized that all of these characters, their living situations after college are all different because they represent the different possibilities after college: 1. Billy- living with a spouse and kid 2. Wendy- living at home with her parents 3. Jules-living in an apartment on her own 4. Alec and Leslie- a couple moving in together 5. Kevin and Kirby- 2 good friends moving in together
Yes but keep in mind Jules is living beyond her means. She thinks that because she's got a Bank Job, she should be living large. The Scene that chilled me was when the Payroll Officer came with The Checks and told Jules she wasn't getting anything because she got a Six Week advance. Sadly enough alot of Bank Employees finances are in dire straits themselves.
the 80s when movies were desperate for us to define ourselves and give us identity, e.g. The love-scarred writer, the sax playing rebel, the love-starved waiter... o_0
The Social Working Virgin, The Corporate Party Girl, The Aspiring Interior Designer whose self of self identity is based on her Boyfriend, The Fraternity Party Boy who doesn't realize the "Party" ended several months ago.
Also let's not forget the Cynical Writer, The Obsessed Aspiring Law Student, and The Post College Yuppie. If they did a remake of The Paper Chase back in the day Judd Nelson would have been perfect as "Ford". When Emilio Estevez said "Zhing", it reminded me of The Beatles Anthology when Paul McCartney (in his Pre-Sir Days) who talked about how they would go all over Liverpool to find a Guy to teach them the missing Link to play the Guitar.
YES! If asked to describe myself as a movie character, I would respond, "I'm a composite of Kirby and Kevin that fluctuates." Nice to know someone who grasps both character's complexity and depth.
This show is so real. It is profound. ✔ Good dose of closer to the truths. Also, I decorated my college condo to feel this way. Classic. The red brick and more over the boy's unit.
Here's another fun fact. The Lady who played Naomi The Hooker now has a recurring role on The Bold & The Beautiful. She plays Maya's Mom and as you know Demi Moore got her start on The Soap Opera General Hospital where she played a Reporter named Jackie Templeton.
I’ll never understand how you smile and say hello to a woman. And there first instinct is to ignore you. Or if she’s with her friends the first time you meet her. There friends are like. Really!! him? you can do so much better. Janet.

I was 10 when this movie came out and not interested in it in the slightest. I think I'm finally mature enough to watch and appreciate this film now. Took a while. I came across this again while doing research on John Hughes after reading about him in Ready Player Two.

I can relate more to Kirby. My senior year of high school, I went to a strip club for the first time on my 18th birthday. Hey did you see the Mickey Mouse Phone. Sold on Ebay it would make a fortune. Billy's lucky he's got friends to let him Crash. It's kind of sad that they can't tell Billy he's hurting himself with the drinking and drugs.
they could but unless billy believes it it won't mean a darn thing. I've told mom for years if she doens't take care of herself (type 2 diabetes) she will die of kidney disease. Even after her brother died 2 years ago from kidney disease due to uncontrolled diabetes (they think if they take their meds they can still eat whatever the hell they want), I told her it will happen to her too. She says, "I KNOW" as in , "I know I'll do better, I don't want to die". She is currently going in for her first round of dialysis tonight but since it's so far advanced her body may reject the dialysis, or because her heart is weak she may have a heart attack. So... yeah... you just can't tell people they're hurting themselves because they have to believe it to change.
