Use even more mics. Boom, lav, and maybe even a stereo mic for ambient sounds (especially outdoors), and mix in post for a very rich sonic experience, though this is less useful for interviews.
Use a supercarioid mic indoors. You get less comb filter effects and a more natural off axis sound and you can go closer to the source, as on interference tubes the microphone capsule is located at the end of the tube (somewhere in the middle of the microphone).
Indeed. Most beginners don't know there are multiple types of shotgun mics. There is just as much stuff to learn in the audio (and lighting) realms as there are on the video side. Sound and Lighting specialists are worth their weight in gold. So are colorists.
*BONUS TIP*: when rolling dead bodies in sound blanket wash blanket after 'disposing' of bodies otherwise the blood stain may affect the sibilance in the room ;) *btw: REALLY HELPFUL TIPS, GUYS!*
Thank you guys. Finally know where to put my Shotgun...always got me noisy results. I sure expected too much 3m away now that I see this. Last record I placed a studio condenser mic, felt much less reverb and noise compared. Anyway, I wish our so clever smartphones could actually sack in the audio with a pro mic, but there we hit a big comercial rock, and between iPhone and Android nothing really works for sure or at all.
Always record some 'room tone' or ambient sound for the space your interviewing in... saves you a tonne in post when you need to cut answers etc. Means you don't have to cut to complete silence which is very jarring!
Get room tone before instead of after. Everyone is anxious to go after, but doing it before calms everyone down before the shoot, and they're less anxious to leave. :)
We just sent out a few this week to some reviewers. Except to see them during the comings weeks. We are still locking in a date for when the D3 Pro will be released to the public. Trust me when I say its gonna be worth the wait.
That's great news; I look forward to the reviews. I really liked what I saw in the previews at NAB. I think you guys are on the right track to make a big mark on the industry. I mentioned to Curtis Judd that it looks like your philosophy is to concentrate on sound quality and build quality at the expense of extra features to come in at a good price. I would like to see a line with all those extra features at a higher price point in the future, though.
What's your best audio tip?

Always bring an entire set of backup batteries!
_Charged_ batteries!
Really love you guys for covering all these types of content along with the usual awesome lighting tips, tricks, & tutorials!
Thanks to Deity Microphones I bought audio accessories and things at my local store to prepare for a film shoot! 😊
0:40..... Ted wipes screen left but the transition wipes screen right?!?! Im triggered
I usually leave my windshield on my NTG3 but it makes sense to increase the clarity and swap it out with the foam. Great video tips.

Oxiclean.
I'm so bad with audio so I appreciate the tips very much! Grabbing 30 seconds of Room Tone is a big one for me.
There's some very solid tips in there, thanks a lot!
Awesome tips. I have an interview shoot coming up, too. Thanks.
That's awesome! 🎥😊
Good stuff as always! Keep it up A-Team!

Also note that not all 'shotgun' mics are intended for the same purpose. A 416 isn't the best choice for indoor use, for example.
I needed this audio information!!! Thanks Aputure!
Brilliant advice, thanks

wow...that gave me just what I was looking for
Don't forget ROOM TONE!!! Sixty seconds please!

Perfect video, just what I needed!
Great tips! I've kicked myself numerous times after saying 'ohhh' or worse, laughing, when filming someone - it totally ruins that clip!
Great tips! :)
Solid tips! Thanks :)

Tip: Choose a dead space over an attractive space. Recording in a cathedral might look lovely, but the echo will kill your voice recording.
Big thumbs up!
Great tips 👍🏽
Good video!
right on that sternum!
So should I take out the default Rode Videomic Pro Deadcat/Windscreen when capturing audio indoors?
Yes.
Yes.
Hey Deity, any word on availability of the V-Mic D3 Pro? I'm anxiously awaiting some reviews, but nobody seems to have one yet.
