one of the very first premiums I bought was the D10 and man I SUCKED at War Thunder for the first couple years, but that is one of the premiums I never regretted buying because now that I am better at the game I appreciate the nostalgia it brings me when I do well in it. (Also the RAF camo for it is super sick)

I would love to play the p51 mustangs more, but that repair cost is outrageous.
I already do pretty good even with the D-5 but when i bought this one last year It felt like i was flying a slightly underpowered D-30 at 4.3 wich was PERFECT.
I sometimes surprise even myself of how good i can do with the american fighters :/

Finally I found a video of someone using the p-51D
In AB, the D30 is actually in my opinion the best overall fighter in the entire US tree. The US tree suffers from fighters that can't turn worth a damn (get outturned by fw190s), can't get reliable kills due to no cannons, and for some odd reason gaijin decided to make the rudders on half of the American planes just refuse to work and put the plane in a flat spin when engaged.

Did you consider playing the KI-87 ? it can be an one sweep monster, it struggles in dogfights and the climb rate isnt too great either, but at that br the teams like to be low and slow, or not climb at all... and thanks to the excellent high speed authority (750kph) i tend to sweep on the enemy team and clear out at least 3 to 4 targets... i mean while having a bit of luck with the enemy team beeing close together and my personal experience in positioning helps but i personaly couldnt find any aircraft capable of consitantly oblitarating enemy aircraft like the 87 does.

I don't want to sound sarcastic or rude but Mustangs almost are the direct counter to fw190s, as a Kurt tank fanboy I can tell you the only difference is the Mustang is faster but bleeds more speed resulting in better turn performance even if the '190 pilot uses flaps etc. This higher speed and better turning makes the Mustang almost certain to win any fight. I've got almost 350 games in '190s and a 2:1 kd and I still struggle with Mustangs.
To summarize 190 is slower turns worse but retains energy better, Mustang is faster turns better and bleeds speed more however cos it's faster it can afford to have worse energy retention
That and the 190 has less fuel. I’m certain that they balanced the P-51Ds by giving them 30+ mins fuel minimum. The planes are 5.0 worthy with 15 mins of fuel bc they’re basically 25% lighter. Seriously, the D models are all better later on in the match to the point where you can turn with almost anything
@@Spitflyer fuel is a factor but even at the beginning of the match I struggle, and not to boast but I'm no amateur. It's just a simple fact that Mustangs counter 190s. A br increase and fuel reduction isn't possible cos gaijin care too much about stats and allied planes are often flown by monkeys (no disrespect to our primate mates).
Actually having played around 1000 matches in the P-51D-20 and then moving on to different nations/planes, playing for fun, I can tell you that P-51s don't just bleed energy - they are hemorrhaging when rolling. Rolling is a very big problem for P-51s when it comes to battle performance. The only time I would struggle with 109s is the first few turns because of poor rolling and losing a lot of speed. 400+ km/h is essential for P-51 airframe both as turn rate and overall engine efficiency (power, overheating etc).
From my experience - roll rate is the most important attribute of a good dogfighter (considering the 3rd person view). I don't think 190s are inferior to P-51s - it all comes down to positioning, prediction/experience. Facing Corsairs however is quite a challenge for 190s because they roll well and are still fast/powerful. There are many ways to counter a P-51 in different energy states, which are quite common for basically any fighter, however cancer rolls are Not they way to play 190s :D
I am sorry but you didn't got jumped by the 109 f4 (Kyson sic) you just straight up forgot he was there.
You attack him (flap damage) and he clearly was the biggest threat energy wise,
then you decicde to kill the second 109 (just in front of you no energy wasted it's fine)
then you go for the third 109 (anzumaziz) who wasn't a threat (energy speaking) giving your six to Kyson sic and wasting a lot of ammo and energy.
It's just poor target prioritization and situation awareness, the xp50 saved your ass.

Those are the best 50 cal belts in the game and I’m not exaggerating, the second one being the Italian belts.

D20 Tail fin improvement, 5% better performance than D5 everywhere, 65' boost
D10 72' of boost on wep, tail fin improvement

As an Arcade Player, the P-51H is a strong turnfighter. It can easily turn with german planes and most jets.

Someone corrected me earlier stating the different engine performance comes from various manifold pressures

i must be confused. there doesnt appear to be a p-51d-10 in the game
its a seasonal plane it seems to come and go in certain events.
The only difference between the D10 and D20 is that the D10 has higher engine compression so it gets more power.

The D-10 has the better engine power BUT it’s the exact same engine between all mustangs. The D-5 should actually have the same horse power as the D-10 or D-30. The D-5 has a Winter of 1944 skin and no, I MEAN no mustang ran 67”hg (1630hp) in late 1944 it was either 72”-75” manifold pressure 1776hp-1800+HP.
Gaijin just has the D-5 where it’s at because it would be considered OP I guess to have a 1776HP mustang at 4.7??? Idk but gaijin can never make a historical accuracy argument when American planes still run on peacetime/factory settings facing German planes with fantasy settings that were either rarely or NEVER used (aka F-4, G-2, G-6, K-4)
I’m sure the sea fury is on peacetime settings and when they changed from peacetime settings to wartime the spitfire 24 went from 6.0/6.3 to 7.0 lol

The G-6 Early which is the 3d model in game is the G-6 early which couldn’t use MW-50 do to mechanical issues it caused and couldn’t run anything over 1.3 ata which is basically the S 199 but with a engine mounted 20mm and way less overheat (it runs 1.6ata-1.75ata in game I think or something close idk that you can correct me on which in real life it just couldn’t until the late model came along which isn’t in game)
Yet the D-5 gets a setting it would’ve never went into war in with the 3d model/skin it has in game… It’s just be wildering. They focus on jets 24/7 but can never add “historical accuracy” they used to brag about in WW2 gameplay.
@@Spitflyer Honestly if they changed the flight models to where the leading edge slats actually caused drag, and made it to where 109s actually start to lock up after 270mph IAS like they did in real life and only pulled 7gs after 340mph IAS like irl it did. Then I’d be fine with them having engine settings they didn’t fight with in comparison to Allied planes.
But you can’t have fantasy flight models along side fantasy manifold pressure settings. It makes 0 sense to me and every video game baby’s Germany and gives them stuff that either didn’t exist, or weakens the living hell out of the allied stuff like DCS.
@@BARelement the early g6 could run a max of 1.42 ata not 1.3. The issue that caused the limitation was fixed irl for the G-4 and then it would also be fixed for the early G-6. Only the G-2 should run 1.3 ata. Gaijin probably decided to run the early 3d model 109 with MW50 because there would otherwise be very little difference between the G-6 and G-2 (if it was modelled as the G-6 early) and then very little difference between the G-14 and G-6 (if it ran a G-6 late model and engine).
@@BARelement I completely agree with the lock up inaccuracy. But at that point they could add more realistic g limits for the pilots so the 109 is still competitive. But at that point you might as well play dcs or il2.

The mouse aim controls in this game make combat so ridiculously farfetched. The shots you take, especially in the head on, are absurd, and there's practically no actual aviating here. It's like having a super restrictive fly-by-wire that does everything for you. Just point and click
That's why I play Sim. Mouse aim just isn't enjoyable

@@marcusborderlands6177 dumbass argument. Fly with sim controls on realistic, and the mouse players will destroy you. They have every advantage. Meanwhile I can play even battlefield and be competitive with a controller. Even in ace combat I have independent control of my rudder, ailerons, elevators. There is no computer figuring out how to point me in a direction. It's not about realism, it's about pilot to aircraft interface. For all War Thunder's physics and historical accuracy, it fails in actual gameplay
@@marcusborderlands6177 it does have a simulator mode that is almost on par with most of the high-end simulators control wise, while being much more easy to run on a PC. The sim community is small but it does exist

Seriously if you’re stuck on that go and find a laptop that has an AMD Ryzen 6000 series CPU and an RX 6600M and you’ll be able to play wt at 1080p on high for well under $1000 USD. Or we can see what AMD does on the low end in terms of APUs for Zen 4 which fingers crossed will bring a 4 core cpu and GTX 1650 graphics to desktop in a single piece
Video idea if you're interested: newbie series. Start with day 1 doing stuff like arcade biplanes and focus on skills you need to master arcade, then what to know for your first realistic battles, and build towards jets. I know a lot of your audience are veterans, but it would be a nice playlist to put together for newcomers and even us old timers could learn a thing or two. I've started playing arcade again about 15-20% of my games and have been having a blast with it.

I do love the mustang but in game I prefer the P-47D-28/30, I do believe that two additional MGs make a huge different (cause I suck at aiming using wing-mounted guns).
It’s just soooo nice spraying people down in the 28. Literally can snipe people from 1.4 km with that thing.
The p51c-10 is one of my favourites. The p51h-5 is definitely my very favourite.
The D series and me do not get along well at all.

The P-51 c is awesome. It has a great engine and can turn if you have to as well. When they downtiered that sucker to 3.7 a few months back I laughed like a villain. My roommate was looking at me like I'd lost my mind lol.

You can tell the difference between D-Mustangs based on their vertical stabilizer. D-5 is the worst frame and the weakest engine. Technically, all Mustangs use the same engine, they just have different manifold pressure setting.
It goes something like this:
D-5: worst airframe, 67''mmHG manifold pressure
D-20: improved airframe(see vertical stabilizer, reduces drag slightly), 67''mmHG manifold pressure just like D-5.
D-10: same airframe as D-20, higher 71''mmHG manifold pressure resulting in more power
D-30: same airframe as D-20 and D-10, using highest 75''mmHG manifold pressure resulting in most power.
Swedish/Chinese/Israeli Mustangs are same us American D-20.
In terms of performance it's obviously D-30 > D-10 > D-20 > D-5
D-10 is much closer to D-30 than it is to D-5, yet sits at the same low BR.If it was still for sale, you could comfortably call it pay to win.

The logic of the D10 and the D20 having inverse stuff isn't correct.
The flight model of the D5 is really heavier with a worse engine.
The D20 have a lighter airframe, maybe better engine than the D5, I never compared those.
The D10 have the exact same weight in the flight model but the way better engine.

I love every mustang but the P-51D-20 will always be special to me because it taught me how to play smarter. I learned the importance of knowing what your enemies can and can't do, judging your opponents energy, why side climbing is important, and how to properly Boom and Zoom. After going from fresh out of arcade to playing a mustang in realistic I would say it was the smartest purchase I could've made around 5 years ago.
D5 Mustang just sucks
The P-51s and La-5s/La-7s are the only props I cant fly well in, really struggle trying to find a place to climb while hoping the entire team doesn't dive (US teams always usually do for 1 low alt attacker). But anything from the P-47s or F4Us, Bf-109s to Fw190s or Spitfires and typhoons I can do well in.
I don’t do to well with the FW-190s, but I can fly all the rest of those aircraft well, excluding the Brits that I haven’t flown yet.
Tha La-5s and La-7 can outclimb most opponents up to 3,600m, and then you can level off your climb a bit and build up some speed while climbing to 4,500m or 5,000m. The P-51s just have to side-climb a bit, but don’t need to do it as hard as the P-47s do, and you can try to stay around some teammates whilst side-climbing.
the d30, if played right can out turn bf109 g models, though the k will out turn you

I dislike it how the premium P51D was changed for a worse variant with at the time a higher BR. D20 being the replacement for this should also have the same manifold pressure. Should've bought this plane back in 2014. Still i persevierd and learned to play planes with the D20 and dispite it being for a while i can still carry games like spit did in this video. Dispite its lack of performance it remains one of my favorite planes

D-10 should have fabric covered ailerons and so on.. D-20, not.. But some did. Dunno if it is like that in game. D-10 has higher ratings on the engine for some reason.

Unfortunately, because fewer people have it - the K/D statistics for it is better and so the repair cost is like 50% higher while having lower rewards than P-51D-20. I waited to get this plane for a few years, now I hope I can buy the P-47M one day (although the matches are too boring for that tier).

Thank you for this very detailed explaination on how to play the Mustang - I have just purely sucked at it and it is definitely because I come from The Westland Wyvern Playstyle of low alt straightline bombing....I've not had that experience of how dogfights and turns work....your flaps, thrust and energy control is insane

Just got this thing during the May Sale. Never really been a big fan of P-51s and I have all the US planes but I figured maybe this could be the one I would finally like. It is. Only played 3 games and have 7 kills

I have played with fw 190s and fought against them, and I got to say, they are some of the worst dogfighting planes in the game.
I fight them with my A6M5 Ko, and it’s funny how easy it is to kill American players lol. That said, I have all of the American air and ground tree done, but still, they aren’t the best players.
I do really well with 190s, diving and then using the roll to reverse people. If it's it's a zero then dive and keep him within 1km, then when he's dragged down climb back up
