Thank you for being a true STUDENT of that novel rather than just referring to things as "Orwellian." Most people who use the word have no specific idea what that means. I think it's also chilling that O'Brien's imagery about the system in which power is simply used to beget more power is that of a "boot stamping on a human face -- forever", and Floyd's death was a horrifying echo of that.
Yeah it's insane that people don't think the jurors were terrified of having their names leaked and homes burned down. I mean how is it possible a dem. Representative called for more violence and just walks away without anyone saying a damn thing about it?
I have used this a lot lately, specifically in speaking to my adult children, who were not required to read this in school, which was in an urban area which happened to be quite diverse. I always saw this as a strange aspect of their educational choices.
@@davidbeppler3032 probably because this country is still trash and there’s more work that needs to be done. At least the state finally showed accountability for the very first time ever! That can be interpreted as a great victory which the majority of the u.s. population does see it as.
The young girl, in recording every second of George Floyd's murder essentially triggered the domino effect as the DOJ's starting an investigation into the Minneapolis Police Department.
@@ambriaashley3383 At minimum, they should have a go fund me page for her. If not for showing the more than nine minutes, this would have been spun very differently. The family and their lawyers should share some of that money with her and also with the victim in George Floyd's previous crime.
Here's the blood showing he had 11x the lethal dose of Fentanyl which would lead to asphyxiation... but sure, a knee on a shoulder was his cause of death...
To be fair to the prosecution, their job is to defend their client as if it is they who face judgememt. A lot of bogus-sounding arguments will be given long as they are not out and out lying.
lol Well keep weeping because they riotin anyways. Because it wasn't a cop doing his job that's the problem. It's the morons being criminals, commiting violent crimes and believing they don't have to follow the law. Guess what the riots will continue, things will get worse, you won't have police to protect you or your property and the criminal will run. Enjoy it though. You earned it : )
If Derek Chauvin were alive today, and I saw him on the street, I would have a difficult time not choking him to death for robbing a pregnant woman at gunpoint, and then standing by as she was pistol whipped. Jesus Christ, the guy died with three times the lethal dose of fentanyl in his system. We're going to convict a cop of second degree murder with that level of reasonable doubt?
he was very dignified in the end -- a young man who made a mistake under pressure -- must face the future alone in a prison cell. We can only pray he overcomes his mental health problems in time. God be with you all
I grew up with that level of gas lighting. It was such a relief when I escaped to know there is another world, the correct reality. Where people don’t try to convince you that when you know exactly what you saw but saw but tell you that’s not what happened. There is no such thing as ‘alternative facts’
I'm so glad I live in a country that (for the most part) values objective facts, not "alternative facts". Now, in case I wasn't clear, I'm not American. I'm Norwegian. Happily so. We surely have our issues like literally every other nation, but at least we argue about the meaning and objective of the facts, whether we like, or "agree" with the facts or not. That's so much better than not even being able to agree on what the facts actually are, despite stats and data showing exactly what the facts are.
I had heard of this happening in relationships, where someone is nearly driven crazy by having someone tell them things that conflict with their own observation. And how that can actually start to bend your belief in what you are seeing with your own eyes. It sounded unbelievable. And then it happened on a national level. I feel like there are some things that you just shouldn't mess with. Reality is one of them. There is no winning that game, for anyone.
That is so true! But most of the stuff Seth, Kimmel and Colbert say are true and complete facts, even though they make them out as jokes.. and honestly, I agree with over 90% of what they have to say
@@spookrockcity that's NOT what he's saying should be the case. Clearly you don't have one, for misrepresenting him and abusing him for YOUR misrepresentation.
"The party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command." George Orwell's relevance is sadly not fading away.

An old HS friend and recently retired Minnesota prosecuting attorney outlined to me the sentencing guidelines for a conviction such as this in detail. The judge has some leeway with the guidelines, but sorry to say there is the possibility that the sentencing may not be well received. It's unfortunately not over.
The minimum and maximum guidelines for this, I believe, is 12-40 years. And they can impose sentences concurrently instead of consecutively. Judge can go outside of those guidelines. So basically who knows.

Meanwhile here in Florida, the governor just signed "COMBATTING VIOLENCE, DISORDER and LOOTING and LAW ENFORCEMENT PROTECTION ACT" into law that include specific text banning any sort of defunding of police.
Interesting point about the new law is the part that suggests it's OK to run over protesters if you 'feel threatened'. So does the new law protect me if, say, I see a group of MAGA hats holding signs, or Westboro Baptist Churchers outside a PP, I can run them over, cuz I 'feel threatened'? Here's hoping...
These are the same politicians who just shrug their shoulders and won't do a thing to consider reasonable measures to cut down on mass shootings, not to mention "everyday" gun violence. It's ok that thousands of Americans die and are injured every year by guns. No biggie.

Ah, but the wins are getting bigger and closer together. God bless George Floyd for being the catalyst that got a crucial conversation going in the U.S., one where everyone is talking. The robot dog is from Fahrenheit 451. Ear buds are the "seashells tamped down in the ears". Full wall displays and Zoom are "the family in the wall". We are living the premonition. If you're not afraid, you probably should be.
The robot cop dog is actually more akin to Farenheit 451. As that's the literal tool police use for enforcement in that book.
Did you see the police dog that bit the cop for using excessive force?
I've always said that in the future I hope there are robots that take over humans as cops. Robots will rely on objective information and simply focus on whether the law is being broken or not and carry on with textbook procedures. Humans are very emotional and carry plenty of personal bias and that tends to cause power trips. It has been proven that humans do not do well with too much power 🙄

If people don’t understand “Defund the police”, then your messaging has failed.
We need to change the system, but the people you’re trying to reach can’t get past that label. We need to change what we call it.
It's been broken down time and time again. At this point they are only pushing an agenda. They either foolishly want to feign ignorance and/or impede the progress of having this much needed shift in the system to make all people feel safer. The police keep using the excuse to kill people by saying they feared for their life. Can't continue to call them brave men and women of the law when other professionals don't come to the same conclusion of killing a difficult person in their presence. Teachers, nurses, social workers, and others have not lost a life while trying to deescalate a trying situation.
It was an extremely proud moment for me and millions of people worldwide in supporting the verdict on, Derek Chauvin, that President Biden, and Kamala, both came out to speak kindly with only positive and productive word's to say Towards their own emotional excitement regarding the guilty verdict on Derek Chauvin.
I'm glad they both spoke with their true characters, because that's what true humanity does, speaks honestly and sincerely.
Thank You.
I’d hate to think what would have happened, if the jury found him not guilty. It would make the Rodney King riots look like a day in the park.
It definitely would have shown (once again) another cop can do what they want, to whom they want, with impunity...and being able to benefit from "blue privilidge". Which is the exact thing people are beyond fed up with. I wouldn't have blamed them a bit if they went off behing Chauvin walking.

We must make POLICE CARRY LIABILITY insurance so cities, counties and states won't go bankrupt behind having to pay off families of these brutal cops using excessive force, resulting in what we all witnessed with George Floyd. Once a cop has one too many excessive force charges and they can not be insured due to a high liability risk and they no longer can be insured therefore...no insurance, NO job! That would stop all this malarkey and keep cops guns in their holster where they belong. If a cops camera falls off their lapel twice they must be fired especially when there's a death involved. I see too many camera footage of these cameras conveniently falling but I hear a bunch of movement that the camera is being tampered with then a thump and it falls to the ground in these shooting chases. The cameras should have a snap on clip that prohibits any such thing from happening or a key that the sargent can be the only one to remove the camera once a shift is over. The camera clip must go through vigorous testing bcz I've watched some shady Videos too may times where it's sounds as if the officer is taking it off the camera and tampering with it, you can actually hear it...this must be ground for firing a police officer especially when a death or shooting take place. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!
To make matters worse in Flodys case, right after the Judge repeated the jurys verdict to this poor excuse of a human being to The Rat CHAUVIN'S the JUDGE told CHAUVIN'S attorney that he can EXERCISE The BLAKLEY ACT... and you all BETTER KNOW THIS ISN'T GOOD and it's letting Chauvin off with a shorter sentance if we say NOTHING. I believe that it's illegal for a judge to instruct an attorney when he is suppose to be a bias party. When in history has any judge told the attorney of someone party who has in plain sight did what Chauvin did and charges in the matter of which Chauvin was charged and following the charged with the judge instructs ANY SIDE OF THE CASE WHAT TO DO TO LESSON THE TIME OF THE PERSON CHARGES IN THE CASE BY DIRECTING HIM TO FILE THE Barkley act? Which to me shows bias towards Chauvin in front of us ALL.
Chauvin did what he did with no shame what so ever, in front of the public and the world and in front of a, I believe 9 year old child. Chauvin has shown no remorse and is guilty of all charges and the Judge shouldn't directed CHAUVIN'S attorney to exercises the Blakely Act when he was beyond callous. I was like 😳 REALLY! What just happened.? This mean Chauvin can serve a lesser sentence on all charges. I was like what the hell just happened?
In our prison systems in the U.S. Caucasian folks are offer this BLAKELY ACT where someone can get out of prison if they have never commit any prior crimes and it's basically an EXITING PROGRAM for caucasians...REALLY!? and WE should all be yelling at the top of our lungs about this because most poeple dont know this and we all should be giving kick back so he is not eligible due to the nature and callousness of his crime against Mr. Floyd.

I know this for a fact because I seen firsthand when dropping off my husband to San Quentin prison in the mid 1990's (he's was a lieutenant at San Quentin prison) and when dropping him off because his car was in the shop, I drove him to work and I seen a horrific sight that my instincts told me, even as tired as a was at around 6am or 7am. I seen nothing but Caucasian men marching in military formation and I was mortified bcz I knew there was something wrong with what I was looking at bcz WE ALL know there are mostly African Americans & Hispanics in the PRISON systems..so why in WORLD am I seeing only Caucasian men marching in San Quentin? My heart froze & I knew something was wrong with that picture so I called my husband a little later & asked him to please look in to the situation for me..it took him a few days but he later told me that it's an EXITING program and I said ok but if it's an exciting program why isn't there African Americans & Hispanics in this program when WE ALL KNOW African American& Hispanics are the ones who are locked in here in record Numbers. Therefore there should be more African Americans & Hispanics marching in this group than caucasians in this program. He further looked in to it for me & told me that this program was only offered in predominantly Caucasian areas & not offered in African American neighborhoods or Hispanic neighborhoods, I was mortified. That is the cold blooded truth & bcz all my children were so small then, I couldn't shed light to the matter until now. 😩🥺😢
