I think its a story about Delilah coming out to her parents and her parents are really homophobic, so after she comes out, her parents imprison her in their home and make her read the bible, pray, etc.
Whilst she is locked up, the girl she fell for is working on her singing and music so she can earn enough to help Delilah bc Delilah would have nowhere to go if her parents disowned her. (Basically saving up so they can run away together)
SInce her parents took Delilah's phone and any forms of social media, her lover ends her letters every day about what she's doing.
Then she paraphrases thee letters into this song which went viral and...yuh... Ik I'm a little late but this is my spin on the song.

Lily and Delilah sat in the car, watching the lights fly past like neon stars. "Oh you look beautiful tonight. Times square couldn't hold a candle to your eyes." Lily said, her own eyes sparkling. "Do I? I just want to look nice for the party." Delilah blushed, bouncing her silver curls. After a few more minutes, the driver pulled over. "Why are we stopping? Lily asked. "I need to pick my friend up. She's going to this party in New York, and I owe her a favor. Hope you don't mind." The driver explained. A girl about her age wearing a red dress got into the front seat of the car. She was very attractive, and most definitely Delilah's type. She wore lipstick that was red as blood, and eyes black as a starless night. "No, me and my *girlfriend* don't mind." Lily said, clutching Delilah closer. "What's your name?" Delilah asked. "Rose." Said the girl in the red dress. "So Rose," Lily spit the name out like rotten fruit. "You said you were going to a party?" Lily asked skeptically. "Yes, near central park." Delilah whipped her head around. "I think we're going to the same party! That's so cool!" She exclaimed. "Yeah, you will definitely make the party worth attending." Rose said slyly. After a few minutes of silence, we made it to the rooftop suaree. Lily and Delilah went for drinks, while Rose slipped into the background. *Good. Lets hope she doesn't come back and become a problem.* Lily thought. After a few minutes of talking and drinking, Lily noticed Rose starting to weave her way around, talking and chatting up others about one person in particular. Delilah. She would slip in comments like "Hey do you know someone named Delilah?" And they would always respond with something like "yeah, but shes taken." This didn't seem to faze Rose. "That won't be a problem." She would say. Meanwhile, Delilah was having drinks with Lily, when Rose came up and asked Delilah to dance. Delilah didn't answer right away, but when rose reached her hand out, almost identically to a blooming flower, Delilah couldn't do anything else but take it. "No, please wait! Don't go! Pl-" Lily called, but her precious, fragile little Delilah was gone. *Oh, its what you do to me!* Lily thought to herself. Rose had stolen her. Lily felt a rage spark within her, but it wasn't a spark. More of a lurching feeling deep within her stomach as she watched her perfect flower twirl gracefully into the arms of another. The acidic feeling bubbled to the surface, and it suddenly had a name. Jealousy. It wasn't a feeling that she had a lot experience with, since Delilah was the only thing she really cared about. Everything in her life revolved around her. Every breath, every heartbeat, all for Delilah. She couldn't let anything or anyone take Delilah from her. She *couldn't.* The acidic jealousy had almost taken control of her, when she pushed it down. No, if she did what she wanted to do now, Delilah would call her a monster, and Lily could never live with the object of her very existence to not love her anymore. So she waited. She did it in pure agony, but she waited until that filthy "Rose" took her hands of of Delilah. Perfect, beautiful, fragile, Delilah. Rose was headed to the bathrooms. Perfect. Lily followed her in. "Hello." I said to Rose, calling her attention. "Hm? Oh its you." Rose grumbled, visibly annoyed. "Mad I stole your pretty little flower away? Hmm, too bad, so sad. I want her, and I always get what I want. Now if you'll exuse me, I have a party to get back to." She tried to shove past Lily, but she wasn't having any of that. "Sit." Lily said firmly, pushing her to the ground. "Wha-Hey!" She yelped. "How dare you!" She exclaimed. The jealous-acid was now pushing against the invisible barrier of Lily's tolerance. "Okay, let my get this straight. You come into her life, and take her away from me, just because you want her? I assure you, I want and need her much more than you." I told her. She seemed scared. Good. "Stop talking about her like she's an object! You are clearly manipulating her! I bet if you let her see clearly, she wouldn't even love you!" Rose yelled. At then moment, the acid turned to fire. "Doesn't love me? DOESN'T LOVE ME?!" Lily whipped out her pocket knife, and Rose was gone. It didn't faze her. She would do anything for Delilah, anything. She threw the body out the window, and headed back into the party, where the object of her perfect love waited for her.

When people say that this song sounds creepy, or just downright scares them, I can't help but disagree. I feel like this would play at the end of a long and sad t.v show, it gave me vibes of someone reminiscing the old times. Alright so everyone is insisting on a story that is SUPER edgy for this but I'm just not feeling that.
This feels more like a girl's soul who aches for Delilah. They were best friends in middle school, closer than that in high school, and still in love. They never made it official. The singer never thought they had to.
Delilah moves away from their small town to go to university. The singer is heartbroken. She and Delilah still talk but... it isn't the same. They call every night, but the singer can feel the strain of the distance.
This feels like the song that the singer wrote at 3am because she just missed Delilah so much, unable to get Delilah off of her mind. She writes about how they can have it all, that she wishes that they could just be together, that she wasn't a failing musician. This is the unnamed .mp3 file that she sends Delilah after spending hours recording.
They love each-other, but they're so far away. It's hard to be in love with someone who you can't just hold and kiss the way that you wish to.

Whenever I listen to this I think of a long distance lesbian relationship. They FaceTime a lot, she is talking to Delilah. She know the distance is putting Delilah into a dark depressive state. She is trying to reassure her that everything is going to be ok and they will be together some day. She keeps writing songs for Delilah to make it feel like there is less distance and keep her happy, but she knows Delilah is getting more and more depressed. She is slowly getting more and more desperate to remind Delilah to hold on. Eventually she finds out that Delilah gave up and ended

there’s a girl who was a victim of sexual assault twice (once by her dad who died recently, and once by her old boyfriend) no one knows about her father or her boyfriend and she is so conflicted about how to feel when she goes to her dad’s funeral. she’s quiet and reserved everywhere she goes and she is bullied for the way she dresses and for her random breakdowns when something triggers her ptsd. she hasn’t had any crushes or feelings for another person since the boyfriend incident, and hasn’t been able to be in any sort of committing relationship because she’s so scared of who they could turn out to be. because of this, she doesn’t have any friends. she suddenly realizes how lonely she is and is now looking and looking for a friend or for just someone to talk to. and then a new girl (delilah) shows up at her school. delilah is patient and empathetic and she listens to the girl whenever she needs it. the girl finds that she just can’t get enough of her. she’s so obsessed with everything about delilah. one day she realizes what it is and she realizes that delilah feels the same, and suddenly a beautiful friendship turns into a beautiful relationship. this is the first time in years she has opened up and formed this kind of relationship with anyone. for once in her life she is genuinely happy. her panic attacks get less frequent and she doesn’t have as many flash backs and reoccurring dreams about it anymore. it’s like the world gave her hell up to this point, and delilah is her heaven.
delilah is respectful of her boundaries and always waits for the other girl to be ready. she doesn’t know the details, but she is sure something happened in the past. this doesn’t stop her from loving her though.
they are perfect for each other. they’re both so happy and in love and the girl thinks she’s finally found her happily ever after...
when something happens...
the summer after the last year of high school delilah goes on a trip to new york city for college. she leaves a letter for the girl saying she loves her more than anything and she will see her soon after college, and they can move in with each other and make a family. the college she is going to is a performing arts college and it is going to help her achieve her dreams of being an actress.

this is my look at it
In high school Delilah was nice to someone who had a mental illness and he/she became obsessed with her. Delilah went to college in NYC and the person became more obsessed by the day with the fantasy of them ending up together. The person got to New York to surprise Delilah but she wasn’t as happy to see them as the person had hoped. The person being heartbroken brutally murdered Delilah in their anger and heartbreak. The person still loves Delilah and is tortured everyday with the thought that he/she killed her. The song ends with the person killing themselves to escape the torture with the hope that they might finally be together.
It sounds like a great movie I would watch.
