Family Guy Super Bowl Promos (1999)

- Long before it became one of the shows people love to hate for lasting way too fucking long, Family Guy was a brand new TV show to have its first episode premiere right after Super Bowl XXXIII in 1999 (although rumor has it that a rough cut of it actually premiered in late 1998). Fox made various promos to be aired before the premiere, while also being hosted on Fox.com. These promos later appeared as a bonus feature on the first disc of the Family Guy: Volume 1 DVD box set.
blast you vile fox, this is fair use, not your dmca plaything

The low budget animation in some of the commercial makes Family Guy look like a late 90s Cartoon Network series.
Which is funny considering that Family Guy was a CN pilot in What a Cartoon...At least the first idea.
still have better animation than most CN shows nowadays
Fax
Stewie looks like he's from KND but without the shades
this animation is probably 10 times higher budget than the more or less automated "animation" of modern family guy
I'm actually glad you went through all the effort of going through deinterlacing these promos. Quality like this should be praised.
Thanks.
Iiiiiii
Yes.
Well these were on the dvd so I’m pretty sure you just press a button on the converting software
Brian went from not voting to wearing his "I voted today" sticker for a week
He used to be witty then became a megaphone for Seth MacFarlane and his staff's politics
@@seronymus Seth doesn’t work on the show anymore
Man, Family Guy was so different back in the day.
It's oddly satisfying seeing Family Guy with more expressiveness.
Well it was hand drawn.
Older Family Guy is better.
My dad remembers family guy premiere in 1999 and it’s still going 24 years strong
Good times. I was 14 and was watching the super bowl...loved it instantly. Never cared for the football...😂
The beginning of one of the best shows in television history
Ahh, I remember the way Stewie used to often tilt his head far to the side when talking.
Heh, the promo starting at 0:50 is like the show's theme song, in that how it claims they show and talk about good old-fashioned family values (of course the theme is meant to be ironic), but then at 0:54 reveals that the show is going to be more edgy than it looks...
Family guy used to be more chill back then.
0:13, my, how times have changed.
that animation is adorable
True!
Just felt more chill and expressive at the same time.
These are actually really high quality. Also, it might be good to note how all instances of Stewie saying "Damn" are censored with "Blast"
It's from a deinterlaced VHS most likely.
They were included as bonus features on the DVDs
And when he orders the fajitas. In the actual episode he calls them faginias, like vagina
@@kayzeaza it sounds the same to me
@@CrashFan03 weren’t you that guy in the 20fad server?
i like how in the promo, their mouths were red and pink and in the actual show, their mouths are black and pink.
I LOVE upscaled VHS recordings, mad props to you.
Wonder how he restored it
The description says these promos were on the Volume 1 DVD.
So many people were pissed that year because so many didnt get fox in their areas such as my hometown of Joplin MO but we were lucky enough to be able to get a bare signal of Fox from the market next door in Springfield MO Rogers AK or Tulsa OK
i didn't know that, I forgot about the hassle of lost signals and messing with the bunny ears
This is amazing quality for 1999
Honestly shocked how i went from the years 1999 -2007 never knowing of family guys existince
What a shame. Those were the best years of the show.
I didn't officially discover Family Guy until 2007, when I entered 8th grade. I think I first saw it on TBS. I was familiar with The Simpsons for at least the past 5 years at that point, but not this show yet. I don't think I would have been able to understand the jokes and situations if I watched this at 8 years old or younger when it was new. I don't think my mom would want me seeing this as a little kid. Netflix for a while had Family Guy but then was removed and now all on Hulu. Definitely one of my top shows!
I like how all the ads where Stewie says Damn they replaced with Blast. Imagine if that’s how episode 1 aired in 1999 because of all the kids watching.
At least Falcons fans had something to look forward to in 1999 after the Super Bowl.
Peter: Alright, Atlanta! Broncos suck!
Brian: The Broncos won.
Peter: What? Oh, I mean alright, Denver!
Announcer: The new comedy series Family Guy comes to Fox this March
I remember seeing those commercials when i was 6 back in the day.
I find it funny how you come back to comment lmao
@@thahrimdon yeah. Im back 21 years ago
@Joe Vuli exactly lol
My sister also watched it around the same age I believe, or maybe on Adult Swim.
These honestly make me kinda sad because I can't help but be reminded of how unbelievably bad it got later
Same with Simpsons and South Park…and other things :/
We didn’t know what we had til it was gone
@@fridaynightnicktoons6885
South Park is still decently good imo now.
But 1997 South Park is undefeated!
Happy 22nd Aniversary of Family Guy
I never discovered family guy until 2006 when I first watched the first season on
DVD
I discovered it in April 2004 on an Adult Swim rerun. Ahhh good times.... Good times.
0:10 "uh probably because you're so fat"
ROASTED
0:14 Brian's eyes disappear
And look how far this show has come after all these years.
And now Family Guy is officially 23 years old!
Family Guy was on of the 4 shows that premiered after the Super Bowl. The others were The A Team, The Wonder Years and American Dad
There have been a lot more shows than those four that premiered after a Super Bowl.
Most of them didn't last.
American dad wasn’t out in 1999 you fucking moron
Happy 20th anniversary 🎈 🎈 🎈 🎈 🎂 🎉 1999-2019
It’s now 25.
I just realized that the Bill Clinton cutaway gag from 0:05 till 0:14 was changed in the episode. Instead of the reporter asking “Uh Mr.President, why do you continue to avoid the truth even after being impeached?”, he instead says “Mr. President, why do you think the public has continued to support you during these impeachment proceedings?” in the actual episode. I just wonder why that was changed.
Probably to make the joke quicker for the commercial
What’s the name of the music playing in the 6th commercial? I also heard it in the trailer for the looney tunes golden collection dvd.
The quality is insane. Thank you im losing my mind
the late 1998 promo isnt a rumor, a 7 minute cut of the 15 minute pilot was aired on December 20, 1998
I remember seeing these.
Impressive that they managed to make Season 1 Family Guy animation look even wonkier. Also very rare to see a commercials/promos that had effects in 60fps be uploaded in that framerate.
Man, FOX must have loved this to promote it this much during one super bowl.
That quality is out of this world
Lois: stewie, come watch the game.
Stewie: BLAST YOU!
I am going to archive this video.
family guy was hilarious when it first came on im almost was laughing in tears
Almost
no way this is this high quality, looks more like 2019 than 1999
Man family guy aired adds when my team went to the superbowl, how amazing, love my broncos
0:49 brian just kinda looks depressed until Peter farted
That first promo is the only one I remember from back then.
If I had seen some of the others from this video, I would have watched FG from the beginning. But the promos I did see were so lame, I didn't watch it until discovering it on Adult Swim.
Butter rum is my favorite! *wham
Family Guy is rated TV-PG-DL for the very first episode.
Family Guy Death Has a Shadow 25th Anniversary
1999-2024
1:09 Chuck Smith, Cornelius Bennett and Jessie Tuggle fail to stop Terrell Davis from reaching the endzone
ah yes, in the middle of the falcons getting wrecked by the broncos (because I mean, hey, can't blow a lead if there is none to begin with right?), you get to see little promos for what would eventually be an icon in television, and internet meme culture
Peter could be really bug eyed back then.
What's the name of the song that plays at 0:14?
What about family guy makes it tv-pg?
NEXT: Sports Premiere: Super Bowl
LATER: Sneak Preview: Family Guy
On FOX!
Nice animation
Is the rough cut promo from 1998 online to watch?
I was 1 when family guy came out and I didn’t find out about family guy till I was 11 crazy
I was 4 and a half years old when it first came out and didn't discover it til I was 13. I kind of wish I was slightly older so I could have experienced the debut of this show and The Simpsons!
0:26 Stewie makes an announcement
I wonder what happened to this show
@ 1:52 theme?
And the rest was history
Stewie is originally going to be the villain of the show but then he's not that guy no more
wow they actually put effort into the animation?
1999: (Peter farts)... Brian!
Present: (Peter farts)... Meg!
1:39 wth was that?
Back when the show was rated tv pg. kinda weird to think about, right?
0:54 kids cartoon vibes
Seth did work with CN
Remember when Stewie originally had freakishly large eyes?
Stewie: Attention World, Meet My Demands Or Be Destroyed!
1: All Nuclear Weapons Shall Be Placed Under My Command!
2:Each Morning I Have To Be Presented With A Box Of Animal Crackers,AND NO GIRAFFE'S!!!!!!
FOR EVERY GIRAFFE I FIND, I SHALL KILL YOU!!!!
Lois: Stewie Come Watch The Game.
Stewie: BLAST YOU VILE WOMAN!
Annoucer: Meet Stewie, After The Super Bowl.
