I've never seen that detail of lifting the hips, that is so cool! I love the adjustment of folding the fist into the neck when you can't get a true high wrist too, I struggle to shoot my hand all the way through sometimes, especially when my partner knows that's what I'm going for. That is awesome! Thank you Nick!
Nick has the voice and cadence of someone who could host a children's TV show. I felt excited to do some reading over the summer before I remembered I'd rather strangle people.
This is was a great video. the audio is as high quality as the explanations now. Even the camera man was moving perfectly to where I wanted to look from without waiting for you to prompt him or anything. and that helicopter at the end was good to end on a good joke--the mic didn't even pick it up really
@@nickortizjiujitsu I’m a older purple belt. I’m 43, 5’5”, at 165lbs. I’m strong for my age and size but I believe in technique over strength. My professor is a freaking monster at 6’4, 270lbs, not fat. He was going over some guillotine concepts with me that fundamentally changed my submission. What you were teaching was the missing pieces that I never asked. I typically side crunch to finish, but I like how you emphasized the connection to the opponents body. Thanks.
@@ConveyApp no worries, Im glad you got something out of it and the important part is now you have info to pass on to someone who wants to learn or doesnt understand the arm in guillotine.
@@nickortizjiujitsu yeah, I’m an instructor with my own local gym. I teach a choke series starting from north/south choke, to darce, to anaconda, to guillotine. My guillotine will be tweaked to my students. Thanks.
Very nice detail coach! Would this also be the detail in finishing the low elbow guillotine? Because i find the position very similar its just without the arm.
Great video Nick Ortiz. I first saw you as Danaher's uke and for the longest time thought you were some random Puerto Rican dude called "Nicotese." Anyway, does your leg configuration change depending on the type of guillotine? I know Danaher teaches a side closed guard to pull with the legs on his FH instructional, but Marcelo shows pulling half guard/x frame on their back leg to prevent them stepping over for his high elbow finish.
The best for me is locking a closed guard, anything that put your opponent Ina situation where they can't move is a great thing. You want to control their movement and then apply your submission.
I manage a gym in Denver. Do you have any interest in teaching out here? I couldn’t find any other way to reach out and was referred to you by Mike Alfieri
@JORDANKURTZ Hey Jordan, I'd love the opportunity to teach in Denver, this is pretty much the only way to find me(not really into social media) If you have an email, I'd love to reach out and talk more about this opportunity.
Just seen your finish in a short really impressive. Can you do a roll through tutorial like you did to follow and is it your preference to go high wrist when they chest up? I usually see most people do a battle to darce or anaconda but you finished in a way I never seen before with one hand in. Wondering how to do it like that
I can definitely do that. Probably, the best skill to have with a Guillotine is to be able to follow defensive movements while continuing to apply consistent submission pressure with your guillotine. I appreciate the comment 🙏🙏
Hears 'Like So', knows he's getting those Johnny D details
probably the best explanation of the arm in guillotine, I've ever heard. thank you
Thank you for watching Jeff, and I appreciate your kind words. I'm happy to help.
