@@skeletonking4119 Hi SK, it is good to see you here. One day my Ventrue will leave CA and have more great adventures in the World of Darkness, with Lacuna Coil playing in the background.
My heart and soul hurts that we'll never see what could've been. I cannot even express how much this game influenced me, and my life and goals and dreams, and how much I love it. There will never be anything that compares nor comes close, and from the bottom of my heart I am grateful that it exists. So thank you so much Tim for making these videos, feeding my soul at least a little bit for more of anything that has to do with it. 💖I have so much more to say but I cannot put it into words, thank you for sharing everything with us, I look up to you more than you could ever know. 💕
My favorite video game of all times. My introduction to World of Darkness. I am now a storyteller, my current VtM game has been going for 3 years at this point, my closest friends are my players, and we became friends in large part because of it. I even have a VtM tattoo on my arm, that's how much this game means to me.
Bloodlines, despite it's faults, has firmly remained one of my favourite games, top 3, since I first played it, it's a game I never uninstall, I play it once a year, and I never find myself growing tired of it - the design, the writing, Rik Schaffer's _perfect_ original score, coupled with the fantastic choices in licensed music, it all culminates into this absolutely perfect early-to-mid 2000's gothic vibe. The fact that more was planned is an incredibly bittersweet thing, for me, I'm glad that Troika had plans to give more love to the World of Darkness, and at the same time, I find myself even more upset that the industry has lost Troika Games - even beyond Vampire, we were also given Arcanum which remains one of the absolute top-tier RPGs of it's era, in my opinion (and is something that, to this day, I would do horrible, horrible things to get a proper TTRPG system for.) And of course, The Temple of Elemental Evil, one I still need to play, but have heard many good things about. I really wish Paradox would be more willing to go ahead with games in the World of Darkness setting, but after the recent years of management changes, the opening up of the I.P. to other developers and publishers, and the fact that as a publisher they seem more focused on their grand strategy titles, I'm sadly not going to hold my breath for a Bloodlines 2. All I can hope is that others will take the reins and give the setting the modern, depth-filled RPG it deserves, but call it rose-tinted goggles (or perhaps, rose-tinted spectacles, for our Tremere friends), I highly doubt anything will ever quite capture the same, unique feeling Troika brought us with Bloodlines. Thank you for these videos, Tim, and thank you for the work you've done in helping realize the projects you have over the years, the RPG scene wouldn't be the same without you and those you've worked with.
Currently visiting California for the first time and this game popped into my head because my sister mentioned Santa Monica and the entirety of this game flashed before my eyes. Definitely one of the best i’ve played and the writing and atmosphere is something I’ve always wanted to capture in my own art.
The Unofficial Patch plus only adds stuff that was in some form either already hidden or hinted at in the game files. These two expansions would mean completely new content, but we modders have the tools now to do something like this! So if there are at least some details of what would have happened in Barstow and Las Vegas, maybe somebody could try to recreate them as Bloodlines mods...
@@wesp5 if you don't mind me asking, in the latest version of the basic patch, what song's playing on the beach? Smaller god or the other one? I am still using some old 2019 or 2020 patch version, because in the later version the song was changed to something else...

The first and second Fallout were the best games of my childhood. I remember playing them in the afternoons after school with my friend, who would do the same at his home, and we would always compare notes and how far we got, which quests we did, and what routes we chose. Bloodlines was my favorite game in my junior years of college and I'm actually replaying it these days with the unofficial patch (that's how I got to your channel). Both games will be forever in my memory and I thank you (and also the whole teams) for making them.
I never played Bloodlines, but from the few goths and non-goths from school a decade ago, love the game Why barstow? Why not... Bakersfield or Fresno ❤
The decision to base sequel in Barstow and its respective sequel in Vegas is just brilliant thematically! It's basically the same idea that LA represented - huge desparity between upper echelons of wealthy people living in skyscrapers and bottom-of-the-barrel low-life junkies barely scraping in shotty houses or even homeless, set against the backdrop of power struggle in secret societies. BUT it also opens up a way of exploring other themes, like desert, natives (I'm sure VTM has a lot of mythos for those) and cowboys and countless other things. And in Vegas, well, thematically it's basically just flasier LA, which wouldn't feel repetetive and might even feel like a return to somthing familiar after a somewhat thematic detour in the second installment. I wish you guys best of luck and hope that someday you'll have a chance to act on those ideas. To be honest, Outer Worlds wasn't really my cup of tea, but much of it is probably due to it not being aimed at people who look for "the next Deus Ex and/or VTMB" (tm).
Thanks Tim, Bloodlines, I know, beyond even the day I die, it'll be remembered as one of the greatest RPGs, and games, of all time. It was something special, and you and Troika should feel proud of entering into legend, almost like the vampire's finale in Bloodlines :) It was for me, too, personally, a special, legendary game, and story, flaws and all. Something I will always treasure. Contra the credits, I didn't let it go
Nobody's expecting you to read all comments. Even when medium or bigger youtube creators say "I read all the comments", they usually don't but need people to comment for algorithm purpose. But thanks for the VTMB content! That game got me into GMing Mage and Orpheus for like 20 years now!
I think VTM bloodlines is one of the best RPGs I ever played, I love it so much. The story and atmosphere are great and it has some of the best map / level designs. There are so many ways to play. An absolute gem in the rpg genre for me.
I have to say, the Haunted Hotel level is the most terrifying level i have ever played. Spine chillingly scary. Even when i played it again ten years later. Thank you.

It's clear how difficult it is for Leonard to talk about Bloodlines, but please post more videos on it. It's bizarre how a game can completely change lots of people's lives (mine included), and I think that alone is worth talking about. Paradox has already done too much damage to game, and I'm doubtful they'll ever be able to recover (in fact I'm expecting a cancellation), so unless a miracle happens and Troika is reformed to build the game, we need to talk about it more. I'm loving hearing your stories! These are all so interesting. I can't believe your memory and I super appreciate what you've done in and for the industry
Bloodlines is a masterpiece, it will always be a shame it didn't get followed up on, and Paradox seems a bit clueless about what to do with it. Is there any chance at all of someday releasing all these various design docs from your games?
I had many playthroughs of VTMB. Loved it. The haunted house bit was stellar. The mood and rpg mechanics were great, but why was it so short? Or maybe it's just me who thought that?
Hi Tim, great video! I hope you don't get UA-cam fatigue, i.e. burned out on making videos! Take a break when you need to, your audience will be waiting.
"Dont be sad it is over, be happy it happened" is a good quote. But for me neither Fallout or Arcanum is close to being over. Still play them. And every time i have an absolute blast. Which makes me a bad customer for game developers. I look at a game and i think id rather play Arcanum again (or NV or Fallout 1 or Fallout 4)
Thanks for these videos, Tim. Troika is one of my all time favourite dev studios and your games have been so profoundly impactful on my life, especially Arcanum! I've beaten it like 15 times. A while back I applied to work for Obsidian as a writer, but obviously it didn't pan out. I would have liked to had a chance to work with you! I'd really love to hear you talk about the music of Arcanum. I bought a violin and started to learn it based on the music from that game. You mentioned you wanted to talk about that in another video. That soundtrack has never left my playlists in the past 20ish years.
Thanks for sharing this info. Didn't know you had a youtube channel, and i think i'll subscribe, cause you give info in a calm, stoic, no bullshit manner. Wish you could make the other 2 parts of that game. The atmosphere of Bloodlines was something i haven't been able to find on another game. The cliffhanger ending made you think if certain characters knew what was going on, and who betrayed who. Loved it and hope you can remaster this game with achievements and the mod that wesp has made! Hope you are well mr. Cain!
I love Bloodlines, one of my favorite RPGs. I met Leonard Boyarsky about 4 years ago, we talked about everything, but when I tried to pick his brain about Bloodlines he wasn't interested, and felt the game ended up being disappointingly unfinished. I tried to tell him how far the game has come since, but he didn't bite. It was a game that the devs and fans came together to make it reach it's potential.
If you don't mind asking, what's stopping you from crowdfunding one of these projects? From what I can tell, you're still passionate about it and the game never lost its cult status. Furthermore, after the debacle of Bloodlines 2, it's clear that only the og crew could deliver anything close to what we the fans actually hope for.
I'm sure many would have loved this. In many ways The Outer worlds is both another Fallout game but also a very immersive sim related RPG as well. I think Outer Worlds and VTMB have quite a few similarities in design.
Really interesting stuff, thanks Mr Cain! Currently in my 5th playthru of Bloodlines (first time as a Tremere) and having a blast as I always do! It's rare to have a direct line to the creators of some of your favourite games, so I just wanted to say thanks for all your work. The gaming landscape would be so different without Bloodlines, Arcanum and Fallout, and I'm super keen to see what comes next with Outer Worlds 2! :) Edit: don't feel bad about not being able to respond to comments! I would love to see a video about what it's been like to be LGBT in the classic gaming industry
Biggest tragedy of video game history is the fact we didn’t get multiple sequels to vtm bloodlines, one of THE BEST rps of planet earth . It truly hurts my heart my bleeding heart
It sounds very basic but I like the of the second game being about running from lacroix men maybe Camarilla. From batstow to las vegas to finally in the 3rd game have the game happening during Gehenna. Maybe even seeing the cab driver back as Caine.
Bloodlines 2 has already been under development for years now, but I lost most of my hope for it after they fired Brian Mitsoda, and everything we've heard since has only increased my pessimism.
@@NubileReptile Apparently they let Chris Avellone work and write a shit ton of content for it and then the producer or director went, "lol, we aren't planning on using any of this but thanks!". Unknown whether it was just to get his name on paper or something...
Out of curiosity, have you ever played the fan-made "Fallout: Nevada" for Fallout 2? Although it was a fan made free project, many consider the lore and design to be done with such a level of attention that it could easily pass as a canon prequel. I've always wondered what it feels like to be the creator of something great and then see your fans carry it forward in creative ways.
that would be awesome. VTMB is up there with Arcanum as one of my favorite rpgs, so its great to hear there was more to it. if i recall, they did release a VTM game called Bloodhunt recently. it was multiplayer-focused battle royale. ive heard it was pretty fun, but somehow i dont think it lives up to the vision you guys had for it.
Bloodlines was one of the biggest games of my childhood. I bought it the day it came out and would spend weekends at my cousin's house just to use his PC to play. We played in shifts while the other slept 😂 still the best times my cousin and I ever had together. Would love to see you work on a new VTM RPG.
completely fascinating. barstow is such a bizarre place for a game like vtmb to take place, i wonder how that would have turned out. "expansion" here seems to be used interchangeably with "sequel," so i wonder how that would have fared for a whole game. a zone akin to santa monica or hollywood i could certainly see but a whole game is another beast.
These are amazing videos! Thank you so much for making these I love hearing your thoughts on some of my favorite games! If you're able to you have any opinions on the isekai in another world trope/ story device? A western example would be a Connecticut yankee in king Arthur's court. I really love fish out of water stories and though to some extent its been done to death sometimes I wish I'd see it more in western media.
We were robbed. Even if we got it now, we wouldn't have the og writer. The amazing devs and it would most likely be made contemporary instead of having those early 2000's vibes which is key.
I love your work! Your videos and games. And i have a question for you, have you ever played Pathfinder (as TTRPG or it's cRPG incarnation) and if you played what do you think of it?
Tim, are you allowed to post these documents somewhere, or are they still owned by Activision or somebody else? Also do you have the original design document for Bloodlines?
I played it on release. Liked it a lot. Played it again like 10 years later. Havent played it since though. But it was a very immersive world and game. Las Vegas would have been a great setting. Wasnt going to buy the new vampire game they were making but checked it out. But if you guys did a new vampire i might get it.
Don't feel bad about the comments, you'll likely get to a point where it would be impossible to read them all soon. Would you consider doing play-through of your games on this channel?
Hello, great story. It would be great to see these design documents translated into reality. Do you see a possibility to share them in the indefinite future so that the modding community might produce those in case you don't need it anymore and don't want/can't sell it?
Hi Tim, Do you have any screenshots from the development of fallout 1? Like how the cutscenes were made and the engine itself etc etc. If so, Im really interested in potentially seeing it. Thank you.
I do not. I have only my own notes from that period, because Interplay requested that I turn over all other materials when I left. If they do not have them or did not pass them on to Bethesda, then they do not exist, as far as I know.
Another patch was just released yesterday. Great gameplay just a bad story about how the crazy guy was right all along did a rug pull. Meh. Too bad it was basically released unfinished.
You know, before you started this channel, I didn't think I could miss Troika any more than I already did.

Edit: don't feel bad about not being able to respond to comments! I would love to see a video about what it's been like to be LGBT in the classic gaming industry
There was plans for a V:TM game set in Las Vegas? I didn't even know I wanted that but I do!
Bloodlines will always be a flawed masterpiece and an inspiration to those creating within the urban fantasy/gothic horror genres.
Cue the VtMB fan community already fervently beginning work on a Barstow add-on mod...
Dont bother with the comments my man its okay! We're just happy to get the lore :)
Bloodlines you say? Want... You should reach out to Paradox and bring bloodlines back from the grave (pun intended).
@@NubileReptile Yep, the IP is in the wrong hands. Everything about it I've seen disgusted me.
@@divisionoflabor3070 True everything around V5 was just terrible.
@@Quirrelhunger system was very cool imo
Out of curiosity, have you ever played the fan-made "Fallout: Nevada" for Fallout 2? Although it was a fan made free project, many consider the lore and design to be done with such a level of attention that it could easily pass as a canon prequel.
I've always wondered what it feels like to be the creator of something great and then see your fans carry it forward in creative ways.
that would be awesome. VTMB is up there with Arcanum as one of my favorite rpgs, so its great to hear there was more to it.
if i recall, they did release a VTM game called Bloodhunt recently. it was multiplayer-focused battle royale. ive heard it was pretty fun, but somehow i dont think it lives up to the vision you guys had for it.
itsnt fun, it was flop and plagiarism
@@horrendouscauldronofsalt7111it’s not plagiarism if they used the license legally.
I wish we could have more bloodlines. :((
Very happy i found this youtube channel. If you crowdfund anything, expect to see my name in the donor list
FUCK man, what's done is done but man this makes me wistful. Thanks again for sharing this!
i remember watching a playthrough of vampire bloodlines masquraide or however you say/spell it since i was a huge vampire fan when i was a kid lol
Hi Timontyh, How about a video talking about video game development tips ? Or what are your favorite video games and why.
@Timothy Cain
Hello sir. Can I ask about Arcanum? Who now control it (like Trademark)?
cars so beautiful
I love your work! Your videos and games. And i have a question for you, have you ever played Pathfinder (as TTRPG or it's cRPG incarnation) and if you played what do you think of it?
Tim, are you allowed to post these documents somewhere, or are they still owned by Activision or somebody else? Also do you have the original design document for Bloodlines?
Did you ever have the chance to talk to Mark Rein Hagen about the game?
was there any plan for a sabbat storyline or option to join them in the planned expansions or cut content?
I played it on release. Liked it a lot. Played it again like 10 years later. Havent played it since though. But it was a very immersive world and game. Las Vegas would have been a great setting. Wasnt going to buy the new vampire game they were making but checked it out. But if you guys did a new vampire i might get it.
Don't feel bad about the comments, you'll likely get to a point where it would be impossible to read them all soon. Would you consider doing play-through of your games on this channel?
VTM: Barstow
Hello,
great story. It would be great to see these design documents translated into reality.
Do you see a possibility to share them in the indefinite future so that the modding community might produce those in case you don't need it anymore and don't want/can't sell it?
I wonder, if Civvie made a VtMB video...how high would the sewer counter get ?
The only expansion that could have worked would have been an expansion in dev time
Hi Tim, Do you have any screenshots from the development of fallout 1? Like how the cutscenes were made and the engine itself etc etc. If so, Im really interested in potentially seeing it. Thank you.
I do not. I have only my own notes from that period, because Interplay requested that I turn over all other materials when I left. If they do not have them or did not pass them on to Bethesda, then they do not exist, as far as I know.
@@CainOnGames Oh ok then, thanks for your understanding.
so was it meant to be a mass effect esque trilogy where it reads from your save file to continue on from what happened in the previous game?
also, as much as i wish these games were made, I'd rather hear about what they couldve been that not know they were ever planned :)
Thats interesting.
Another patch was just released yesterday. Great gameplay just a bad story about how the crazy guy was right all along did a rug pull. Meh. Too bad it was basically released unfinished.
Whoever owns the Bloodlines IP these days(Paradox?), hire Tim to make a new one, please! 🙏
