- Malaysia has urged for the elimination of the veto held by the five permanent members of the UN Security Council.
The country emphasised this change is crucial, especially in situations involving “mass atrocity crimes such as genocide, crimes against humanity or war crimes.”

No veto would mean countries like the US and Russia probably would no longer recognize the UN, tbh. It’d be like Japan leaving the League of Nations after it condemned its illegal invasion of Manchuria. Like the League of Nations, the UN stands at a point where it might fall into irrelevancy and be dissolved, but hopefully a better international multilateral organization can finally take its place.
There's 5 veto power countries why couldn't it be when it's one or two that uses it the other three can void the veto of those countries?

I was about 12 when my father explained the UN voting and veto power to me and it didn't make sense to me at all..
It seemed for me like the whole thing is just a show ran by the US to dictates what it wants to the world.
The only thing I see different now is how the US and its allies are being exposed and all their lies and war crimes are resurfacing again.

It is disingenuous to frame this as a US support of Israel only argument, when past years saw genocides in Syria, Xin Jiang, and Ukraine that all got vetoes. I think an inclusive argument is a more effective way to frame the issue toward the big 5.
I questioned a Russian UN representative during my high school Model UN on exactly this point. This was exactly my point and he couldn’t answer.
