Tears streaming down my face a 55 year old man! Neil's last lyrics to last song on last studio album and played to perfection live as always. More poignant by Neil's passing of course, his swansong.
@@dannytheswedishmusixian1513 oh yes, the RUSH army always musters. We mostly cry listening to this song. It’s not typical of their most popular songs, more a coda to their career. But you’ll see.
Thank you very much for this one. This was the last song on the last album they recorded before Neil's death. Slower, but otherwise pretty typical of most of their post 90s sound. Thanks again for the link. It's ok if you don't get to react to my requests. You've given me much more in happiness just from your channel.
Those mics in front of Geddy are mostly for decoration. There are lots of little nick nacks all over his area and keyboard station, his entire backline is a set of popcorn machines because he plays direct.
Today 99% of singers would never made it in the industry in the 60s and 70s. There was absolutely no technology that would enhance your voice like today. Singers in the 60s and 70s were unbelievably gifted.
Damn son have you been living under a rock. RUSH was one of the best ,hard working prog rock bands out there. Three top notch members that could play their instruments like theres no tomorrow 🤘RUSH🤘🇨🇦
The last song on the last album. Neil (percussion and lyrics) is no longer with us and hearing this now, looking back, I wonder if he somehow knew this was the swan song for Rush. It brings tears to my eyes and chills to my soul every time.
What a beautiful way to end their career. Danny...you can't be a complete musician until you become familiar with the most talented trio in history. Go get some Rush tomorrow and see & hear what you have missed in your young life. Just go listen to side 1 of Moving Pictures (1980) and go from there. Loved your reaction.
Funny that the first two Rush songs that you reacted to are off their last album. They are considered progressive rock however have gone through some significant changes to their sound over the years. My favourite song of theirs is "The Spirit of Radio" and here is an interesting little fact: "Rush has released 24 Gold records and 14 Platinum records (including 3 multi-Platinum), placing them fifth behind the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Kiss and Aerosmith for the most consecutive Gold or Platinum studio albums by a rock band in the United States."
I suggest “Xanadu”. Live from Exit Stage Left is a fav. It’s RUSH at their proggisest. It’s eleven minutes long. The intro is a 5 minute long instrumental, before Geddy starts to sing. Alex does nice guitar work. And Neil plays ALL the percussion. “A thousand years have come and gone but time has passed me by”
That was the last song from the last studio album they created. It was one of the most beautiful they had ever written and an amazing end to a long and wonderful career!
Alex and Geddy found in ear monitors a great asset but did not like the lack of audience and reflected sound that is natural during performance. The outward facing microphones pick up the audience and natural reflected sound and feeds in to the in ear monitors. This gave the boys a more natural sound in their personal monitor mix on stage. Brilliant as most of what Rush did!
Yeah that’s what most in-ear folks do in my experience to get the feel of the audience. That’s why I never used them plus the bass tone of my non bassy voice wasn’t strong enough, but that’s helped by using in-ear plus a monitor for the bass register. If I tour again I’ll definitely go for in-ear.
Danny. I forgot to tell you that in the 90s, Alex had Paul Reed Smith of PRS guitars install these piezo devices in some of his guitars so he could just flip a switch on his guitar and instantly have an acoustic sound.
Name me another band that produces one of the best songs they have ever made on their last album having spanned 4 decade career. You can't so don't bother trying. RUSH is quite simply the greatest band that has ever existed.
@@dannytheswedishmusixian1513 19 studio albums, millions of records sold, countless sold out concerts spanning the entire globe for over forty years all while maintaining their original line up and a fan base rivaled only by the grateful dead. I believe those vintage microphones you're referring to are for show...helping to support the theme of Clockwork Angels which is Steampunk/Airships/Gears/Alchemy, etc. Notice the Steampunk gears on front of Geddy Lee's keyboard synth. Every single song on this album is good...eg, Caravan, Clockwork Angels, The Anarchist, The Wreckers, Seven Cities of Gold, Headlong Flight, Carnies, & The Garden. Every song is brilliantly written by Neil Peart. Note; Neil Peart co-wrote 2 novels..."Clockwork Angels" & "Clockwork Lives." I bought the Clockwork Lives novel, read first 2 chapters and placed it back in my bookcase...it was too much for me, had my head spinning...wow! Maybe I'll muster the courage to revisit the remaining chapters...but I'm concerned that I'd be attempting to turn lead into gold, or take an airship flight over old factories. If anybody completely reads that novel/book, they would become vintage engineered English literature systematic experts. Then again, I prefer nonfiction over fiction. If the book was nonfiction, Neil couldn't make your head spin!
It's unfortunate that Geddy did not have strategies to preserve his voice all those years... He definitely had to come up with some compensatory ways to strain for the high notes in the last years of their performances. He did experiment with using falsetto for the first time (I think) on the album before this CLockwork Angels one, with interesting effect. The song "The Way the Wind Blows" is a good example.
Very strange in a way. It’s the last song on the last album. Reflecting on life and aging. Not really as characterstic as you might expect. It is ridiculously beautiful, but you should really check out the earlier music.
Great reaction!! RESPECT for our boys… #RUSHARMY appreciates that!! Introducing Geddy Lee (like spaghetti): Bass, Vocals, Keyboards, and Taurus Pedals with his feet, Alex Lifeson: Lead Guitars, back up vocals, Taurus pedals with his feet, and Neil Peart (like peert) #THEPROFESSOR, #THEGOAT, and best percussionist ever during the last 40+ years! yes they have a few songs like that, a unique energy they put in even when striving for something more beautiful and measured. My favorite like that is a song called Presto
This song, The Garden, is the last track on the last album RUSH produced before Neil Peart was taken from us by brain cancer. Back in the day he used to ride his bike between cities on tour. And during RUSH's off-time, Neil went on a US multi-state road tour on his BMW motorcycle. I think he finished up his BMW road tour with publishing another, of several, books. He used to read 24 hours a day, (well, 23&1/2.) lol. He literally read hundreds & hundreds of books. Probably over a thousand...which gave him plenty of ammo to write 90% of all RUSH lyrics on 19 studio albums. Besides being inducted into the Rock Hall of Fame, RUSH was given the highest award from the Canadian Goverment called "The Order of Canada." I'm unaware of how many drum kits Neil actually had but it was many! He had a custom kit designed and constructed specifically for every tour, with the album theme on the drum shells. On this tour he had custom theme-designed Sabian cymbals...you can see them from overhead camera. He had 24 karat gold plated hardware on some kits as well. I'm sure each cymbal was over $1000 each. Who knows how many multi-thousands of dollars this kit alone is worth, including the electrical components and his spinning drum riser that "The Professor" (Neil) is mounted on...like the Boss that he is. He is quoted as saying "the amateur takes something easy and makes it look hard, and the Master takes something hard and makes it look easy." BONUS; Neil's drum tech, of many many years, said that all the cymbals had to be replaced quite often because of his polishing them. The black on the polishing rags was actually metal coming out of the cymbals which eventually would crack on some of them from Neil's hard playing technique.
This song is so beautiful!!! Yes, this is the last song on their last album. La Villa Strangiato official music video. Xanadu from Exit Stage Left Some of their earlier more Prog sound.
