I think you've grown into yourself on these vlogs. A lot of us "photographers" know most of the camera settings etc,... What I really enjoy is the story. And you do it very well. Thank you.
Agreed! There are enough videos on UA-cam to learn about settings, composition and editing. Seeing the story and effort that goes into making the images is so much more valuable IMO.
Your videos are just so good. The landscape the emotional engagement and introspection and the music. I so appreciate the amount of effort you put into the music choices you make for your videos. But that sunshine cliffhanger was totally mean! 😁Looking forward to the next one!
The reason we have a human civilization is that we always strive for more. We sometimes believe we'll be happy and can relax when we reach the next goal, but that's of course not how the world works. If we actually stay content and relax then it starts going downhill. Same for people, groups and countries.
The true definition of success is reaching a point where you are truly satisfied with everything you have achieved and to therfore simply do whatever makes you happy.
New Sub here, jumped across from Fototripper and enjoying the contrast. I remember having your energy LOL. Remember to always be kind to yourself, and thanks for reminding me, too. 👍🏻
The images from this trip feel different. More connected and human. I'm really digging what you're doing man! Like other have said, love how you are embracing the story and it feel so honest. Can't wait for the next one!
It always amazes me when I am feeling a certain way and turn on a video on which someone is expressing exactly what I am feeling. I do appreciate the things I have today, they are the things I have wanted in the past. I am frustrated with certain things that I cannot change, but I try to find the happiness in the things I have and look forward to the places and things I am going to do in the future. It's not always easy. But it can happen.
I like how reflexive these last vlogs of newfoundland are becoming, how they make you think about life, not just about photography. We lived in a constant search of our happiness
Hello from St.Lewis Labrador. It was a nice surprise to see my little community on this channel. Sorry you didn’t get a good iceberg shot. They seem to stay off our shores more the last few years. Depends on the winds and tides for sure. The price of gas here is ridiculous right? One company has the monopoly. As the saying goes here,” always a little more in Labrador.”
Good Morning Alex 🌈🌈I feel so bad that you travelled all that way to get endless days of crap weather, so I sent an extra rainbow. A hack for making it easier to get out of bed on cold mornings from years of camping in Northern Ontario. It's easier if you are not getting into cold cloths, so put your cloths in the sleeping bag with you and you will have warm cloths to put on in the morning. Looking forward to the next episode.
That lighthouse shot was definitely the highlight of that journey. I don’t understand how people live in places like that year round…I don’t think I could. 📸😎
Alex, you need a complete change of scenery and environment. If you want to do some great landscape photography and reflect on your life as well, consider the high deserts of the Southwest US, the Big Bend area of Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona. These areas in the fall are very special (and comfortable) and afford and infinite number of beautiful landscape compositions.
I like how you video tape the perspective of you holding your camera about to take the picture and then you bring the viewfinder closer so the audience can see what you see (through the eyepiece) and finally you transition to the final edited photograph. It is a quick 5 second portion of your video, but to me it is high level storytelling. Made me feel like I got the best possible perspective of you taking the photograph. Think it would also translate well for some of your instructional videos with regard to composition.
Just found your channel through the silly video about how much you paid for your gear. I kind of chuckled at it because my wife is so patient with what I buy. Aren’t we all just a bit “Gassy”? Any how, I subbed due to your depth of sharing what, and why, rather than the how of photography. Keep up the good work.
Great video! The timing of a talk on happiness and the deeper meaning behind it. Guy Tal talked about two forms of happiness in his most recent book that you might find an interesting topic - hedonic happiness and eudaimonic happiness. That chapter danced right around some of your core topics in this video! Stay safe!
@@AlexArmitage Ha! The first one I think I can get, not going to pretend I can pronounce the second! I *think* he included a phonic pronunciation for the second though... But I am terrible at interpreting those as well!
I had no idea "Weather Station Kurt" existed, and I'm likely one of a handful of people that regularly travels to that part of Labrador. Even worse - I was just up there last week working about 8 nautical miles away at a radar site. That region is known as The Torngat Mountains and far more picturesque than southern Labrador. I actually put a video on 5 days ago entitled "Top of the Hill" that shows that area, and you can even see north to where "Kurt" would be. You don't know what you don't know...
I recently subscribed to your channel and really like your content. I'm not a landscape photographer but I love watching your adventures. If you are ever in NC USA and want to do some bird photography look me up. Keep up the great work.
It is always crazy to me that Mary's Harbour is roughly on the same hight in the northern hemisphere as the UK or the Netherlands. For the America's way up north, and for us just central EU....
Can you type up or write out that June 1st travel note and include it in the portfolio? That was beautiful. See you next week when you get to see some sun!
Might be a good idea! I must transparently say that much of the travel note stuff is quote's I've read or gotten from somewhere. Im trying to credit those when they have sources
Alex for the love of God stop saying New Fin Lin...............lol As I said before as someone from here. Your brave to go to Newfoundland in May and early June...lol
I promise you I will continue to get it wrong as the amount of information I've gotten for the right and wrong way to say it has essentially become a running joke in my life
Very helpful video. I have thought about visiting the area previously and this has convinced me to never visit the area. The weather in Alaska now seems pretty good in comparison.

Have you picked up a printfolio yet? No?! What are you waiting for! www.alexarmitage.com/printfolios/p/newfoundland-printfolio-2024

The desire in the human heart is infinite which is why nothing in this life can satisfy it. Only the infinite itself can fulfill our desire.
Love the way you shoot lots of video scenes in between camera images. Very enjoyable. Thumbs up. Good job.
Much introspection. I think it’s time you got a cabin in the woods (in a photography friendly place).
So you finally reached there.... very happy for you. Love the pics

Glad to make a dent. Thanks :)
Having second thoughts now about retiring in Newfoundland...we humans need sunshine! Cool video Alex!
Don't! Keep watching :) Well when I can release the rest of the episodes
@@AlexArmitage haha...ok! 👌
Thanks for showing us around a bit of Labrador, I've always been curious about it. Fun to watch someone explore solo.
Thanks Jill!

Fun to watch! Thanks for taking me along!

Wow! Thanks for commenting Helen.
I’d imagine the iceberg lettuce photography space is wide open
Oh, and great pics mate, I appreciate you man
Love it! Thanks for taking us on your journey ❤
Glad to share it :)
21:27 That "OK" sounded a bit funny 🤣
Very Reflective
Awesome episode buddy! ❤
You made it through the whole thing?! Hehe

Agreed. I dunno how they do it
I'm so glad I found you via Gavin Hardcastle, you are my dose of escapism 😊
Adventures and amazing photographs, keep it up mate.
Welcome aboard!

Noted Mark! It's hard to capture the viewfinder sometimes but will continue to attempt to :)
those first 4 minutes so resonate with me!!!
Nice reading that Lawrence!

After all this time it's time for a new windscreen mate 😄👍
maybe one day when I make money :)
The lighthouse images were such a welcomed surprise

You visited St Louis and didn't look me up?! Really tho, happy to be able to check in on you via your videos.
Hey I've visited you once, when's my turn? :P
I’d love to get out that way and photograph some icebergs.
Awesome
James Popsys would love Red Bay.

Haha. Ill get on that :)

Alex, what camera do you use for driving shots? you become my favorite photographer! thanks for adventure!
DJI Pocket 3 and ty!
It’s crazy to think that Newfoundland as an island has waaaaaay more people living there than Labrador.
WAY more
You didn't get much in the way of images. But the experience that you'll carry with you forever is worth it, isn't it?
Images are secondary :)

I tend to say we as you and I, the viewer.
Wow, that nose ring ring is super blatant. It must make every single interpersonal interaction you have super awkward.
Why?
Wow, being rude must make every single interpersonal interaction you have super awkward.
Why?
Why do you care, not your body, not your choice.
