- I needed to cut metal, but can't always take the work to the band saw, so I wanted to try this Bauer Portable Band saw so I could take the harbor freight Band Saw to the Work
Harbor Freight Bauer Portable Metal Cutting Band Saw Review and Use Demonstration
A buddy of mine got one of these for half-price at a parking lot sale....he won't use it much so the price was great. It would be nice if HF came up with a stand for it...I know people have made them, but it'd be nice to have one ready made.
I agree, would be nice to get a stand from harbor freight, but I purchased the floor mounted metal bandsaw instead
Thanks for the demo - I picked up one of these over a year ago for less than $100, and I plan to use it to cut EMT electrical conduit, also going to try it on some 1 in Copper
this is a nice saw, I used it to cut conduit, keeping the cut even is a bit of a challenge but practice will help a lot, recommend you made a few test cuts first, I don't use cutting oil but if you do, it will cut down on the metal on metal noise - thanks for subscribing!
@@snapwholeharborfreightreviews Update 6-20-23 Harbor Freight just released a Univeral Portable Band Saw Benchtop Stand that appears to work with the Bauer Band Saw - It's only $99.99
@@easyedub I'll take a look at and I might get it, good info, I bought a floor based metal cutting bandsaw - the central machinery model, I should have a video in the next week or so - thanks for the info
Have you had problems with blades breaking? I use Lennox blades.
no problaems with blades breaking, I've worn out the 2 that came with it and bought replacements at HF, maybe try a different name brand then lennox and if it gets better - its also could be related to the pressure of the blade to the work piece, I always let the weight of the saw do the cutting, its slower than applying pressure, but I think its easier on the saw, and probably the blades too - heat is the death of a band saw blade - thanks for subscribing!
Mine didn’t come with a second set or brushes or a bag over the tool... might be opened but returned.
Still smells like oil and no scratches.. everything appears new.. so far it works 🤞
I am disappointed every time I see a box that has a return in it, why do they have an openbox sale shelve? I think they need change their policy on returns, and check them before returning to the shelve
you need some cutting oil
I almost never use cutting oil, but it does help with the noise - thanks for subscribing!
You actually don’t
Won't cutting oil help keep the heat down and the blade will last longer?
The only problem I have had is the tires get brittle and need to be replaced every couple of years. I built a stand for mine and it works great. With a stand it's way better. Also buy some better blades, not from harbor freight.
I don't have a problem with harbor freight blades, they get 'used up' faster than more other blades, but the cost offsets that, I use this as a portable bandsaw only, I have HF's floor mounted metal cutting bandsaw for the shop - thanks for subscribing!
@@snapwholeharborfreightreviews I have a big metal cutting bandsaw in my blacksmith shop. I keep this little one in the woodworking shop. I often use steel on wood projects. This lit saw is so handy. The stand I built for it clamps to a bench when needed and the saw is held in with a ball-bungee cord. I can bring it out and use it in the stand or portable really quick. Anyway you look at it, it's a good saw.
Those bed frames are very hard steel.
I keep these anytime I find them, alots of uses for hardened steel, i have two videos of them being cut with this bandsaw and also the 6 inch cut off saw - both worked great - Thanks for subscribing!
Just picked one of these up for $89 this past weekend. Not sure when I’ll use it, but it was too good of a deal to pass up. This video is very helpful - thank you for taking the time to put this together!
Glad you found the video helpful - this is a nice saw to have for cutting metal - thanks for subscribing!
In sale July 23 for club members at $79.99. Needed a hose, picked this up as a go between for my floor saw and lighter reciprocating. With a small tractor and bar stock, I can’t always get stuff back in the saw. Nice video.
Bed frames are spring steel

I'm needing the rubber pulley tires replaced on mine. Have you found a place to get replacements?
I think this is the same general model as the dewalt, I recommend measuring the wheel size and see if they will work -thanks for subscribing!
Good review, I have this saw, it is a metal cutting bandsaw, originally I bought the Chicago Electric metal cutting bandsaw with the vertical/horizontal stand, and I couldn't get the blade to track, because the twist was too drastic and it kept pulling the blade off the wheels no matter how much I tightened them and at one point it cut through the blade guide, so I took it back and got this instead. I have the same problem with this one as you, I need to have stand to make this more stable and get consistent cuts, but I do like the saw. There is a guy on youtube who bought this and built a table/stand for this and it looks awesome, I'm going to get some 2 inch square tubing and make one for mine. Thanks for the video, I did learn a few things. 🖖😎
Thanks for sharing your experience, I plan to build a mount but too many projects.... thanks for subscribing!
Is great saw I love my the blade don't run straight on one of the wheel and there is no adjustment butt I fixed it was just bad finishing from manufacture the asambler who ever it was deside to add a extra washers on the bottom of the wheel wen only takes one it was rubing on to a part of the tencioner little bit of filling and work like dream but that is what you get for 100 bock's

Useless to cut a sheet because of the blade angle. I need to cut a sheet that is bigger than 5".
this bandsaw is not designed to cut a sheet, bandsaws by the nature of their design are meant to cut relatively small cuts, because of this, changing the blade angle has no advantage, not many metal cutting bandsaws are setup to cut sheets, a plasma cutter is a much better option, if not plasma, a sawzall will work, thanks for subscribing!
Just bought one. Same problem, not strong enought to spin on speed 1, it "sometimes" turns on speed 2, rattling without even starting to cut, will test it a little and see if the other problems arise (belt getting loose, etc. and probably will return it, product does not work as designed, indicated or expected, (and no blade and no cover). August 2023
not spinning on speed 1 depends on what you are cutting, it is made for very software materials, to cut steel, you will need to use a faster speed, same for speed 2 - I use this tool alot, very happy with the tool - thanks for subscribing!
The red box( blade) sux you need Dewalt, Milwaukee blade or the blue box at harbor
I made the video to cover the saw as it comes, and let everyone decide on their own 'perfect' brand for accessories, I only use this saw for portable operation, and run it off my truck power most of the time, as I have a large metal band saw, so the blades are fine for me, when I need blades, I go to HF, thanks for subscribing!
@@snapwholeharborfreightreviews Maybe trying that bandsaw with the different blades would be a good topic for a future video.
