  • In this video a Stihl FS40C was running sluggish and without full power. We check the Spark Arrestor to see if back pressure is causing the problem. We removed the Spark arrestor screen and found it stopped up. Cleaned it with a wire brush and parts cleaner and reinstall and test. Runs good! Do it yourself and save! Total cost $0 free just a little wire brush action

Thank you. This helped me fix my fs 40c for a few dollars. It had git to point would not run at all. Had been down on power and sluggish for a while. Put a new spark plug that was correctly gapped and cleaned my totally blocked arrestor. It then fired right up, full power with no sluggish throttle or delay. Tip, find a very thin screwdriver so you can fit between the thin slots of the engine cover. Wire brush worked perfect on it, took maybe 5 minutes total to remove, clean and reinstall.

Had to comment. Can't believe this was my problem. I was a day away from dropping it off at a repair shop. Thanks for the video.

    Thanks for the video!
Have you guys found any good line for these things. The line we have just gets eaten up. Also when you touch the head to get more line to come out you have to keep taking the head apart because the line gets pinched on its self.

Jesus - that screwdriver pry was painful to watch! Just found the same problem with my spark arrestor (used a propane torch and burnt the carbon off). Works like new now (and it's nearly 30 years-old!).

Pure gas? I think you mean zero ethanol with 2-cycle oil.

That's what I was going to say. I'm not going to run mine on pure gas.

@@user-ym2kb1cp5e Right on. The people at Paul's small engine just removed my spark arrestor on this model and have it back to me and charged me $38.00. They didn't clean it, change the spark plug, restring it, nothing. Thanks for the video.

@@michaelmansun6203 I just did that to mine and immediately back to life. Spark arrestor caked but air filter, fuel filter and spark plug helped too.
