Thanks so much as now I have completed the cleaning of the ferrofluid (followed your video) and ordered ferrofluid from your link. I'm now testing the tweeters without the ferrofluid and it works wonder (at very low volume to avoid voice coil burnt out). Really appreciate your help. Cheers Louis
I just wanted to say thank you for uploading this video. I found it very useful. I have just received my ferrofluid from Springfield Speaker and am about to clean and refurbish my tweeters. All the best.
Great video to watch and learn. I can't help wondering what happened to the pretty young lady, in the poster, of the newspaper article while watching him do his thing.🤔
This is awesome! Thank you for sharing. One of my KEF 104/2 sounds brighter than the other. Did the toilet paper test after swapping channel test, and found that one tweeter was not as loud/bright as the other. I just ordered a FerroTec ferrofluid (not sure if that is the same one you use) from an ebay seller. Was wondering if I could use denatured alcohol for cleaning instead of isopropyl. Again, thank you very much for sharing!
Wouldn't a mild soap and distilled water be safer and more thorough than alcohol? I figure it could be safer for the magnet core adhesive, and leave the gully with minimal contamination for the new fluid and the coil. For example-A highly diluted liquid soap like Dr Bronner's squirt into the coil channel. Followed with a couple of swirls in the channel with a pipe cleaner or what ever. Then a thorough rinse out with warm distilled water from a squirt bottle until you can no longer see any old oil flowing out. Then hit it with a blow dryer on low for a 5 minutes. Wait 24 hours or until you are certain the magnet has completely dried out. Then add the new ferrofluid and then put it all back together. It would be a slower messier process, but should result in cleaner surfaces and no chance of bits of tape or tape adhesive literally fouling things up. Nonetheless... that is one fine job. AMAZING!! (I actually applauded when you fired it up!) I can't wait to try it myself!
Even with pure Alcohol (99%) only the oil will be removed ...the nano metal part in the ferrofluid will stick on the magnet ? ... I like you,re process (i would prefer this over alcohol ) but I didn't try ( I don't want to damage the magnet as you said )
I'M doing the same (video) for my Vifa slik dome tweeter on Paradigm 9 SE MKII ... I've build the crossover ( 3rd order passive ) for the Tweeter ...So NO DC (0.000000) for the tweeter and as He said LOW VOLUME ... Soud quality : 12/10 :D
Hi, thanks for posting this it's was very helpfull. I'm about to do this on my own beloved Kef's 104/2 with T33 tweeters. But I have a question. Did u mount new tape/glue on the coil/top or do the old tape/glue stick good again ?
Thanks for the great video. When you were sliding the paper around the cone was this just to wick up the old ferrofluid? Also, did you compare the sound quality of the refurbished tweeter to the other speakers tweeter to see the difference?
+Jim McCusker Like you said, I was removing the old ferrofluid with the paper. The tweeters started cutting out on high frequencies at medium to high volume, knowing these tweeters were getting old, I decided it was time for new fluid, I can't recall on the sound, but at loud high frequencies they are holding there own now
i just opened an old jamo tweeter small one with neodium magnet, the tweeter was way to quiet. i removed the old dry liquid and did not put anything in its place. it sound perfect. its loud once again. will i kill it if i dont put anything ferrofluid in it?
Hello is me again. As now I have cleaned the old fluid from the gap and saw the gap is quite deep. Just wondering if the ferrofluid just add to the top part of the gap but not fill the entire gap up? I have just ordered one tube from the link you gave me according to your direction. Cheers
+ddavideo Fill it as shown in the video it will flow easily around the whole gap as it is magnetic, stop filling fluid when it levels off like seen in the video
Why did you not show that there are two wires that come out of the tweeter coil that need to be unsoldered from the diaphragm cover before removal? Then when you clean it, you need to be careful not to push the wires into the slot, or worse, break the wires. Also the coil wires have a micro thin coating to keep them from shorting out.
What a great vid, thnx for sharing. I got 2 Paradigm Center speakers C-350, and bot the tweeters dont work anymor. So Im looking into trying to do this to them ,and see If I can get them working again. Where can I buy this ferrofluid?
found it here www.amazon.com/Ferrofluid-900uL-General-Purpose-Diameter/dp/B00HX0L2XO/ref=sr_1_2?s=audio-video-accessories&ie=UTF8&qid=1547555436&sr=1-2&keywords=ferrofluid
Hello I have a cc350 and I was playing the stereo very loud today and smoke came out of the Paradigm center speaker. I noticed that the Tweeter stopped working and disassembled it and I'm just curious if the ferrofluid could be my problem. I was unfamiliar with speakers until this happened today so I'm learning a lot as of today. I can get the Tweeter working if I press in on the voice coil against the magnet wondering if this fluid could fix my problem. Thank you. Were you able to repair your tweeters for did you need to purchase new ones. I emailed Paradigm today waiting for them to get back to me on replacements.
When you remove the voice coil from the magnet there is a foam type dome in the center.. I have a paradigm speaker that the Tweeter is blown and when I remove the voice coil there is no spongy dome in the middle like you have? Is that necessary for the speaker to work.? When I press on the voice coil the Tweeter will start working but it will not work otherwise. Ideas? Paradigm cc350.

Thank you Sir ! That is exactly what I have to do with my pair of DM610 from B&W. You're giving me the urge to do it ! Have a cold one !
+Eric D. These speakers are really good looking !

so basically the biggest job is making sure you clean out the old stuff properly?

Ben Bimmer For me there was no need for new tape, I used the old original tape again, it was still very tacky and had a good bond
Thanks for the great video. When you were sliding the paper around the cone was this just to wick up the old ferrofluid? Also, did you compare the sound quality of the refurbished tweeter to the other speakers tweeter to see the difference?

Thanks. Just to confirm, you were using 50% Isopropyl alcohol to clear the coil and remove the old ferofluid, right?
At the time all I had was the 50% Isopropyl alcohol, your better off going with the 100% and yes I was cleaning the old hardened ferofluid out
hamiltonontkeith thanks. What kind of glue did you use to reseal the cone?
The old original adhesive tape was still very tacky, so that is what I used
Thanks for sharing this video. Could you please let me know where did you obtain the new ferro fluid? Really appreciate.
cheers

Many thanks.
Will one tube be enough for two T33?

the postage price is a bit mental
Wont the fluid just leak out?
you can change the KEF T33 with t27 or they are different

+Branislav Stratrov ferrofluid is for cooling with out it you will burn up the tweter

Low cost slik dome tweter ....... I have 2 Vifa (1'' slik dome tweeter) ...i can rebuild and even change the slik dome in my tweeter ... no soldering

mine doesn't show no ohm when I check it with a multimeter, can it be the dry fluid or the voice coil is done?
+Tung Thai ua-cam.com/video/gTIjFJWh0_E/v-deo.html
You added too much ferrofluid it will dampen the high frequencies.
hello Ali how much should you use?
@@pml394 you have to fill less than 1/2 of the gap, anything more than that will over spill or will hinder the movement of voice coil.
@@akhtarali6026 thanks a lot
how much are you suppose to put in?
are you unable to talk?

It's a damping that not all tweeters have.
what do you do at 10: 06??
Q - tip into alcohol to soften & clean out the old ferrofluid
ADS mid's and tweets don't look that easy..
Thanks for the film, but videoQ is poor, and no explanation? words,,
This is EXACTLY how NOT to do this. Dear lord...
Can you explain why? Want to do mine, but don't want to screw it up...….
