Fantastic! I'm fascinated by Lambton Park. I worked on 'The Paradise' as Choreographer for one of their episodes. Thanks for making the video!

+ChoreographyTown you are more than welcome. I had a feeling this would be a popular subject as a lot of people hold the Lion park and estate close to their hearts

Great job with the video, loved it, informative but also sad. I hadn't realized Lampton Lyon park was this close to Newcastle. My father took some cine footage here in 1973, so I will have to get it digitized and uploaded onto my channel in the coming months.

Newcastle Upon Tyne - Video from the past I would love to see that when it’s done. I have better equipment now so your footage would be nice to integrate into a new video. Let me know when you have it didgitized. Pleased you enjoyed

Thanks but I will actually be uploading the footage to my own channel to make a video feature of Lampton Park.

There used to be good car rallies on this estate in the 80's. cracking venue and would be great to be used again for a rally.

I had to do this as the plans are in for houses on this site. Need to hold it as it is for history sake. How cool would it have been if it had took off like lightwater valley or flamingo land had. would have been epic.

Excellent video...it's not until you see a aerial shot of the estate ,that you realise how big it actually is.Also, after the safari park closed, Lord Lambton transformed it into 1 of the best Pheasant/Game Shooting Estates in the UK...Hence,they was no public access..( unless you did a spot of poaching...back in the 80's..)

Cracking video that Derek lad. I'm gutted I wasn't old enough to visit lambton's estate while it was still the safari park, being born in '82 I just missed out on it! And what's worse I've lived just outside the estate boundary walls all my life and always wanted to know more about its history as it's a rare thing to be able to visit. I was lucky enough to be in last year for a sporting event and loved being able to see the castle and see a small amount of the estate. Love the place!! Proud to live near it!! Hope you're keeping well anyway mate and keep up the cracking drone work. D

Derek Sweeting the funny thing is I didn't know that photo existed until yesterday I now live in Wiltshire, my family came down here when the park closed, my father accompanied some of the lion's down to longleat safari park and found work down here so we moved a few miles from longleat!

my granddad 'john bull' ran bournemoor cricket ground, in the summer,we would stayl, in the cottage across the road. i remember being in bed with the sash windows open listening to the lions roaring not far away. i may be wrong wasnt someone mauled to death, as he got out of his car...

  • @deanharding740

So my mam and dad and me were driving through the lion section when steam started coming out of the car bonnet and the car overheated and broke down. We had to wait until a ranger in a Land Rover and a rifle came as we couldn’t get out of the car for obvious reasons. We were eventually towed to safety. The car Ariel had been snapped and the wing mirror pulled off by the monkeys so the car was looking pretty sorry for itself. We only lived 15 minutes from it but it was the best (albeit prematurely short) experience ever ! It would be good to know why it eventually closed, presumably because of money.

I went there a couple of times with my parents when I was young. Do my eyes deceive me or at 3.04 is that a hatch in the 'safety' cage on the back of the jeep for putting your hand out?!! I was always told the park was closed due to a number of babboons escaping. Legend has it they bred in the wild and that's why the poulation of Bournmoor (or insert village of your choice) has grown so much ;)
