Intramuros is a great place to stroll and it’s best to experience it with your loved ones. Travel notes: Try to wear comfortable clothing because you’re in for a long walk. The best time to go is during the morning around 9am when the temperature is not that humid. Carry an umbrella because sometimes the weather can be unpredictable. Drink a lot of water to hydrate yourself prior the tour and do bring refillable water bottles with you. A little background, Intramuros, Latin for "within the walls," is the Walled City of Manila which has been the seat of Spanish government in the Philippines during the Spanish colonial period for almost four centuries (1571-1898). Intramuros served as the base for 3 other governments until the country claimed its independence. Philippines was a British colony from 1762-1764, an American colony from 1898-1943 and 1945-1946, and a Japanese colony from 1942-1945. Each time, they made Intramuros the base of their government in the country.

Intramuros is probably the most tourist asset that Manila has, aside from shopping malls. Going around its streets and churches you can imagine how live was during the Spanish empire period. I truly recommend to visit Intramuros when staying in Manila

Most Pinoys would have an idea of what the essential Intramuros tourist spots are; colonial buildings make up the bulk of attractions inside the Walled City. But apart from its structures, Intramuros still functions as a district with more than a few administrative responsibilities, as well as a major district for education.

Intramuros can never fully replicate what the city used to look like in the past, but I believe the area can be so much better than what it is now. The area is still not bad and nice compared to other areas in the city. You have the Fort, Churches, museums, and while some of the old style buildings might not be the best restorations, it isn't bad. If they can just try to invest better in this area and spark a better life, that's all you can ask for. I don't think you can move the residential areas there which I totally understand, but hopefully some of the modernist buildings can be removed and replaced to bahay na bato style. I also would love if that Golf club that occupies a great amount of Green space could be converted to a park and areas can just simply be clean with good places to walk, shop, hangout, and eat.

Adding the pedestrian areas is a really good move. I hope it expands.
I agree you can’t move those residential areas because obviously they are people and their home but I think those are workers or potential workers.
I think they need to just put better investment and make the most out of what they have. I think they should try to get more restaurants into the area or even some stores. You go to the main centers in cities not just Europe but in the world, they put affordable family owned high quality restaurants and retail stores.
I don’t think you can easily replace the e old architecture of the past but hope they can restore or replicate some. I think they might demolish one building to build a monument in the past but that’s what I’ve learned online.
Intramuros doesn’t have to look like the beautiful streets of a European but it should be like one of the centers of the city where all walks of life go.

Intramuros is the extension of manila slum areas which they try to make as a tourist attraction, i hope they can relocate this unfortunate people
