How Much I Spent To Make My Wrangler An Xtreme Recon w/ 35's?
Вставка

- This video is all about how I turned my Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 4xe into an Xtreme Recon package... or at least as close to an XR package as I could for as little money as possible!
I wanted to achieve the aggressive look of the XR package, without sacrificing any off-road capabilities, and since the XR pack isn't offered on the 4xe (at least not yet) I had no choice but to go aftermarket.
I decided to stay somewhat true to form, and not mess with the balance of things too much. Luckily, the 4xe's leave the factory sitting just a smidge higher than the fully ICE Rubicon's (making a little more space for these larger tires). Not to mention, they're equipped with more than enough power to take on the added weight of some 35's as well!

Who said a hybrid can't look tough 🤔😤 (tell me I'm wrong?!)
Looks MinT ! ! Perfect look .. SicK
@@tonymanno2132 thank you!! 🙌🙌
I love how they did the 4xe. Most hybrid setups go with a weaker engine with an electric motor to pickup the slack. Jeep took an original engine setup, gave us a 100HP power adder and warranteed it for 100,000 miles. Jeep knows their people, that's for sure.
@@robsolf yessir! And they didn't put some "aero" wheels on either... full on Wrangler!
@@robsolf Just the battery is warranted for 100K miles, everything else is standard Jeep warranty.
You know you’re a stud when you straddle the camera off-road😍
Hahahaha 😭 top 5 comment all time
Great video. I suggest putting your wheels and tires' specs in description, or in the comments.
One of the best comparison videos I've seen for this setup - thank you!
Thank very much! 😎
I finally found the video I was looking for. Thank you for sharing this information.
The reason I would go with the Extrem Recon package would be warranty. I’m running 37’s w/2 1/2 lift and need to re-gear. I’m lucky in that my local dealer so far could give a squat less about the bigger tires and lift . That might change tomorrow if they were to get a new service manager....
I have the 2024 Willy’s and we love it I now have 10,000 miles on it with no issues
Just the video I was looking for. Thanks for touching on the subject!
Happy to hear that!
You're not rubbing at all? I have 4xe sahara on 33s with rubicon wheels and it rubs a little
YESSS MY 2020 JEEP WRANGLER RUBI. ON 35x12 TIRES/RIMS ARE EXACTLY LIKE YOUR JEEP 😊, I LOVE IT
Looks great
Thank you!! 😎
he ain’t wrong!
Haha thanks brotha man
The Xtreme recon adds the front HD Dana 44 plus gearing / headlocks and 35s. Getting this on a Willys is a no brainer. DIY and No regear is not the same even when you have the front D44. My trail rig has 4.56 and it’s a blast of torque. My wife’s Sahara is sooooo soft on accelerating but still a capable Jeep for trails. Just not as torqued in the lows.
Well said. The XR is most worth it on a Willys! Trust me, if offered on the 4xe, I would've gotten it, but at least the 4xe comes standard with some of the XR upgraded parts!
@@MrXerxes it comes with the beefier HD axles and brakes... and it sits a smidge higher than a standard Rubi!
The Rubicon 4xE already has the Dana 44s
Recon package also upgrades the brakeas and rotors along with the sway linkage
And gears, suspension, calibration of PCM, Dana 44 axles, and a few other things. The recon package is well worth it. Not knocking the guys Jeep and upgrades. The 4XE looks great and he did a nice job. I just got the 392 and the only other Jeep I was considering was the 4XE. I had other needs I guess and my area has no infrastructure to support EV’s properly at this time.
I think you made an awesome choice and it looks great !!!!
I really appreciate it!
Fire as always
Thank you 🅿️
If I were to do it, I'd do it exactly like this. Having come from a sports car history and mentality, unsprung weight is "da debbil" in my eyes. If I could go lighter and still have a durable setup, I'd do it. My foot notices 10 lbs of difference in unsprung weight, so I'd want to add as little weight as possible while keeping the look and not going to a tire that would explode on contact with anything sharper than an elbow.
Thank you sir! This is really something I considered... coming from sporty cars as well, and wanting to maintain some semblance of daily drivability 👍
I agree I don’t want to lift my new Wrangler im afraid they might mess it up and break the bank too, just want all terrain tires and im happy with that.
Look great, like to see more content on the jeep 👍
Thank you sir, and you got it!
Can you keep the same rims from factory and add this tires
I believe the only reason recon has those fender extensions is to make the tires legal. Tire “poke” is illegal but it’s like tint and hardly anyone gets ticketed for it.
That's exactly right! And I'll admit it likely keep the vehicle a bit cleaner as well, as my poke causes my tires to fling dirt, debris, and water up onto my Jeeps body... worth it for the look though!
@@Reoniz I would definitely get the extensions for the fenders with those tires you’re going to be flinging rocks and you’re going to get paint chips
You can shed 18lb by removing the end caps on the steel bumper too, and give a nice stubby bumper look.
Very true! I've gone back and forth on stubby for a while (not that it's permanent in any way) but I'm liking the fully intact look for now 😅
@Sss haha not a bad point 😂
no mention of new mpg and electric range..?
I mentioned all that in my full review!! Linked in the description, didn't have any noticeable differences with these... hence choosing the lighter KO2's over Ridge Grapplers (but my Speedo isn't recalibrated yet so it's likely all a bit off anyway)
Any fitment issues whith the 35 on the stock tire carrier? Did you consider using your stock wheels instead?
subbed brah! Thx from a fellow jeep dude!
Appreciate it!
Nice vid, just bought the 40th Ann 4xe rub I go 35, SCS, light wheels, and Toyota open country are some pretty lightweight tires
Do you think I would have issues running this set up on my 4xe Sahara?
I’m interested by the answer too
Great vid and love your set up. Just bought a sahara unlimited 4xe. Can i go with this same set up considering Rubicon sits higher than sahara stock? Thanks in advance.
The rubicon actually doesn't sit much higher, but does benefit from the higher clearance fenders... if no off-roading then yes, but if you wanna have decent clearance stick with 33's!
Looks Good! Mickey Thompson Baja Boss A/T’s are good tires too.
Thank you! And they sure are, probably the most aggressive looking A/T's out there!
I am ordering a Rubicon 4XE as soon as I can. How do you like it?
@@keithcarravone4733 I'm really enjoying it! Especially as someone who can charge it regularly and save some $$$ gas!!
Can you please put all the tire description’s and rims in the box it be great help
You got it! Doing it now
I love your Jeep! I want one. Can’t decide on the Rubicon or Willys. 🥺
Thank you! There's pros and cons to both, but for the 4xe, there's no Willys!
Get the rubicon, it’s worth it
They do make a Willy’s 4xe 2023 model and it’s out for order
im sure your range took a small hit. Did you see a big difference in your range?
Recon package also upgrades the brakes
Yessir, but the 4xe gets the upgraded axle and brakes over a standard Rubicon as well
You going to add the beefed up spare carrier? I have a 23 Jeep Beach with the Recon option and it's awesome!! Already looking at bumpers, lights, winches and all that good stuff. Not gonna go crazy but I'm definitely making some changes, and I'm also thinking about changing the hood to a Mojave or Rubicon or the Moab if it fits. Oh and the satin black grille too!
If price wasn’t a concern, 2” mopar lift with 18” rims with 37” tires would be ideal for you? What about sticking with, in my case, the 20” inch stock wheels?
Jeep looks good!
can i used my wheels from my 2024 rubicon 4xe on these same 35 tires?
Will this fit 2024 sahara 4xe ?
And what is the best place to buy this set
Love the method 305’s. I’m assuming you got the 4.75” backspaced size? Note - you can get different colored bolts (I might try the blue ones on my 4xe) and if you go off-road, Motobilt sells some rash/rock rings for them.
Ya I was originally considering different colored bolts but I'm content with the look for now (may be a fun thing to do in a year or so!) but I was not aware of the rash rings - thanks!!
If you are not going to do crazy rock crawling, why get the bead lock capable wheels...why not just put the larger tire on the stock wheel? Also are you getting any paint chips because they put the fender flare there on the recon package to help with that.
Really liked the video. Looking at upgrading my wheel/tire package and XR is still not offered on 4xe as far as i know. How is the setup holding up for you?
Nice video and very helpful as I'm looking to get my 35's soon. Looks like you swapped your front bumper to a Rubicon version; did you paint the hooks in blue or just swapped them?
I have a Rubicon, so this is how it came from the factory!
Love you video and content ! I am getting my stingray delivered in a week and this is the first thing I am gonna do. But what about warranty issues from the dealership did they give you any trouble when you got your rear suspension replaced due to the leak ?
I read that the XR package also gets you steel knuckles up front instead of aluminum. Maybe an Wrangler owner with XR package owner can confirm.
I believe that's true! The 4xe gets stronger axles as well!
Yes on steel knuckles. I have 2021 rubicon with XR package worth every penny. Rides and handles great.
@@rosettadimaria2001 that's awesome!
Would I be able to take the XR to 37s from 35s with the factory upgrades?
Ya know I don't have any personal experience, but I've seen people do it on the forums. From what I hear, an XR on 37's is approx. the same clearance as a stock Rubi on 35's.
Mine sits somewhere in between the two height wise, and you can see in the pics from this video, that the XR does sit about an inch higher than me when on the same 315/70 (35's)
What is the size of your tire and wheel? is it 35-9-17?
Can you point me on the right direction please. First of all I have always been a truck guy but jeeps always have caught my attention and I think I have decided my next vehicle to be a wrangler; however I lack the knowledge off-roading therefore; I would love to know what’s the best model and option package I really just wanna spend one time a jeep that’s ready to go for city and regular off-roading not crazy things like crazy rock climbing just regular off road mountain or muddy trails. Consequently what model and package would you recommend me buying that’s ready to go looks and performance is it the 392 or the 4ex; I have been contemplating the diesel version since I own diesel trucks but I would love your opinion what would be better for me?
Looks like you're based in LA, can you share where you got the work done?
So we are looking at the 35’s. Everyone I saying we need to add a 2’’ lift. 2022 Rubicon 4XE. We would prefer not to lift it. Are you getting any rubbing when turning. What do you think helped you get that deal on the rims and tires. Great video. Thanks for sharing.
You don't "need" a lift on the Rubicon 4xe for 35's unless you plan to do very intense rock crawling.
I have no rubbing whatsoever!
I really searched and had patience to get that deal!
@@Reoniz Awesome thank you. Do you do a spacer by any chance
@@jaggsjunction no problem, and no I didn't!
Is your jeep sting gray color ? I have been looking into sting gray color and it looks different in every video that I have watched. It looks more like a dark gray in previous Rubicon models with red writing . Do you know if sting gray color changed for 4xe model ?
Mine is indeed sting grey!! It has not changed for the 4xe... but I do think the blue 4xe accent colors work particularly well on sting grey 😎👍
I have a Rubicon JL and I want to install 35 internal tires, should I change the gear ratios?
So NO lift? 2500 for the method and tires ? beautiful 4xe by the way
That's exactly right... and getting everything mounted and balanced! Thank you 😎
Hey @Reoniz did you need to change anything with the tire carrier to fit the 35s or did it fit fine? Let me know
With the Rubicon tire carrier they fit "fine"
The tire does ever so slightly rub on the steel bumper, but not enough to bother me. Likely could be mitigated by deflating the spare a bit as well
Great video, what I didn't hear was the wheel size. 17's or 18's?
17's!! And thank you (17x8.5) 0 offset with a 315/70 ko2
I'm sure you miss your 340i
How has the overall reliability been for your 4xe? There are a few owners out there with some horror stories involving the electrical and hybrid systems. Thanks.
Ya know (touch wood) I haven't had any issues thru about 4k miles.
But, I too have heard some of those stories.
I've seen the biggest issues taking place in extreme climates (mostly cold) but for its daily duties, it's performed well thus far 🙏🏼
So far only Apple CarPlay disconnecting all the time - and it’s wired to the phone.
@@Hazard4Tactical same here!! I'm constantly unplugging and re-plugging !!
@@Reoniz One thing that may fix this connection issue is use a genuine Apple cable. Made all the difference for me using CarPlay. Great vid and thanks for explaining your mods.
Can you let me know the exact tire size and rim size is u went with
Just added it to the video description!
Hi what is the offset of your wheels vs the +12 on the xtreme recon ? Your wheel looks more aggressive/sticks out a bit more. Thanks and your jeep looks great
Thank you! Mine is 0 offset as well as an 8.5" wide wheel vs the 8" on the XR... so it definitely gets a bit more poke as you can see in the pictures I put in the video of my Jeep next to an XR
@@Reoniz thanks for your quick reply. Appreciate your reviews. What do you think of the Black Rhino Chamber vs Warthog in matte black? 8.5 and offset O. Debating between these two.
Also looking at the Black Rhino Kelso matte black 17x9 with 0 offset but i think 9" is a bit too much in terms of weight etc... many thanks
What psi are you running?
Great review, I have a Sahara 4xe will these tires and rims work for me
Thank you! Will be pretty tough on the Sahara unless you plan on 100% sticking to pavement (which would be boring)
Your best bet would be to get 33's, such as the standard Rubicon wheels and tires which you can pick up relatively new for around $1k
Hi! Just subscribed to your channel! Can you tell me what your tire and wheel spec is? Thanks
Is it possible I can also get that deal?! Great price! Where did you get them?
Possible, but not easy! Shoot me a DM on insta @reonizz
Is their any height difference between unlimited rubicon and 4xe rubicon ?
Do you have any issues with the larger spare tire mounted on the stock bracket?
Did you need to change your spare tire bracket? Spacers?
I noticed you needed add a heavy duty tire mount !
Yes, that wouldn't hurt forsure, still something I'm considering... but haven't had any issues yet 🤞
It is great!❤
We’re planning the exact same idea. Did you have to do anything to the 3rd break light mast or did the spare just fit on there? Thanks a lot
Ya know I didn't do anything, but I could in theory lift it up to the higher bolt or do the 3rd brake light relocation kit for maximum view-ability... but as you can see it's manageable with no modification whatsoever!
The stock tire carrier brake light allows for a 35in tire. What I have heard is that the 35” tire set off the parking sensors so that is why you would want the relocation kit. Also 35’s weigh more so you may want to get a tailgate reinforcement (but many run without - at risk of some tailgate alignment issues down the road - especially if you off-road).
@@davidcarrico3385 exactly! I don't have parking sensors and my setup is relatively light (only about 5 or so pounds heavier than what Jeep says the tailgate can hold stock!)
Can you share where you got the great deal? These are not cheap online
Shoot me a DM on insta @reonizz
did you adjust your speedo for the bigger tires?
Do you plan to recalibrate your speedo? Would love to get info on what you do - taser vs. dealership. Also want any info in mpg with the bigger tires! Thanks
Ya know... I really should 😅
If I do, I'd likely call around dealers and go with the lowest possible dealer recalibration (as it cost less than a tazer, and I don't plan to change the tire diameter any more)
But I'm gonna contemplate a lil while longer
I'm not noticing much of a difference in MPG or overall performance (recalibration withstanding). My seat of the pants feel is essentially identical before and after with 33" KO2's up to 35" KO2's!
@@Reoniz👍🏼 - if you recalibrate I hope you'll make another video including it - keep us posted!!
@@dpwild328 gotchu!! Thanks for watching man... there will definitely be more Jeep/4xe content sprinkled in between the regular content
How did it affect your mpg?
It didn't make an enormous difference, but it's marginally worse now
Look at 9:20 for the $$ values - in summary $2500
Is the Xtreme package ever coming to the 4XE?
I sure hope!
Did you get the BFG 113s or 121T
Nice
Great video. I would like to get the same setup. Can you detail the exact tire and rating as well as the wheel details and maybe even where you bought them. Many thanks.
Hey man! Shoot me a DM on Instagram @reonizz and I can give you some details 😎👍
It’s not made into a extreme recon. Bigger tires does not even come close. There is a lot more to it. The whole front axle is different for one thing. Beefier with steel knuckles vs aluminum. Bigger brakes. The lift, etc.
Yes... but the 4xe comes with the HD front axle, bigger brakes, and stiffer springs than a regular Rubi (sits an inch higher, aka in between regular Rubi and XR)
So it's not just bigger tires on a regular Rubi
Niceee!
$2500?!?!? How?!
Really hustled for a solid deal... took me some time 😅
I have a serious question. Why is it when someone puts 315/70/17 tires on their rubicon with stock wheels there is no poke out of the fender? Your tires poke out which is what I want. Is it because the stock rim isn’t wide enough??
It's not only not wide enough, it has has a very positive offset. Which basically means the center of the wheel is placed well into the wheel well.
What you want is either a 0 offset (what I have) or a negative offset to achieve that poke you want.
Wheel width is basically a bonus at that point. You could achieve a similar look with stock rubicon wheels and 1.75" spacers, but the combination of cost/sturdiness/look wasn't worth a $5-700 savings to me
How do you like your 4XE?
I'm enjoying it! Nice to avoid unnecessary fuel consumption during these times...
@@Reoniz I'm in canada and maybe because of winter I'm only getting half the mileage.
@@theepanbalas with the 35's, I probably get the high teens in electric range!
@@Reoniz What overall mpg do you get with the 35s? I'm trying to decide which Wrangler to get, and mpg is obviously of great concern right now with the 6+ dollars per gallon in California. However, XR look is a must and I'm so glad I found your video!!
@@Mark-zq2iw I get about 25mpg indicated but that's including a lot of close range full EV driving. Tbh, if you really care about MPG's (and considering the official XR isn't yet offered on the 4xe) I'd get a Sahara which does by far the best MPG wise vs a Rubicon. With that said, a Rubi on the stock 33's would be a happy middle ground looks/MPG wise! Hope this helps.
Without an HD Gladiator Mojave front diff and 4.56 gears it’s not even close to an Xtreme Recon. Like putting Rubicon decal on a Sport.
Well it does have the HD front axle, but you can't easily regear a 4xe rn anyways
@@Reoniz yes it does have a Rubicon D44 front axle but it does not have the 6100lbs GVW front axle or the performance brakes that the Xtreme Recon and Gladiator Mojave have.
@@jefftenhave8038 no it has the exact HD axle you're referring to... beefed up from the standard D44 on the regular Rubi's
It's shared from the 392 as well
0 offset 🤔
