3 Cheers for Tony Gibson - Edinburgh Garrison Sergeant Major (The GSM)

- I first met Tony Gibson, Garrison Sergeant Major (GSM) for Edinburgh just under a year ago at the rehearsal for the 6th Opening of The Scottish Parliament. After his quip about me running up the Royal Mile from Holyrood Palace accompanying Rolls Royce One, we had a chat on the way back down The Royal Mile to The Scottish Parliament and became friends.
The last week has been intense for Tony with the sad passing of HM Queen Elizabeth in Scotland, operation Unicorn came to fruition and being the Garrison Sergeant Major for Edinburgh, Tony was very much involved.
I have spent a few hours trawling my footage from the last year to create a VT of Tony in action in and around Scotland's Capital city. I'd like to highlight the incident on George Street during the parade to commemorate the 40th Anniversary of the Falklands War. I was filming the Scots Guards Association Pipe Band and Tony had just passed me by. One of the pipers collapsed to the ground so I gave Tony a shout and we can see him rushing to assist the downed piper. We didn't see Tony again that day for another hour as he gave First Aid to the piper and saw him off to hospital. Tony tells me the piper is now fine having been brought back that day. Tony Gibson - Hero to that piper's family.

Can you imagine the heap of work loaded on this amazing man for Her Majesty's funeral send off from Scotland. What a man.enjoy your time Air.👏
Thanks Jim and what a remarkable man Tony is! Hats off! I hope he stays a long time in this function.
But I have also a great respect for all The Queen's coffin bearers especially the 8 Grenadiers Guards who had to bear the coffin several times with the whole world watching them. What a stress they must have had! Phenomenal job they did!
He did a superb job as did the coffin bearers
@@JimRamsayJWR But I forgot to mention that it was YOU who alerted Tony of the collapse of the piper. So you are a hero too!!!🥰
@@moniquevanaken2638 I didn't stop as I knew Tony was THE MAN for that job. Felt bad about that afterwards mind
@@JimRamsayJWRYes I can imagine you felt like you did. Sometimes you do things you later regret but that is life. And you did a good job. You reacted straight away by calling Tony so he could help immideately and so you were instrumental by saving the piper's life! And that is something to be proud of!!
@@JimRamsayJWR We have a New King
I know Tony, he lives just round the corner from me. I remember him joining up. He's done exceptionally well, his home county of Lancashire will be proud of him as is Edinburgh. Well done Tony.
Buy Tony a pint! Ooops he is tea total. He did brilliantly and left behind many friends in Edinburgh. Best of luck to Tony in his next role in civvy life!
Thank you for this. Lifted my spirits on a sad day. And what a man! "Hero to the piper's family" indeed.
Crew
What a great role model this man is. So well spoken and so professional
Totally agree - a man to be looked up to
@@JimRamsayJWR Yea
A great video about an inspirational man.
Add another cheer from me Tony does an awesome job interacts with public nicely but gets the job done perfectly and Jim give yourself a pat on the back for producing an excellent video
Well done tont
Thank you for that one - was a nice insight!
Such a nice tribute to Tony.
Her Majesty came to say thank you and goodbye to Tony!
Job brilliantly done, enjoyed it so much 👍
Up
Tony Gibbon GSM (gods sergeant major) respect a service to be proud of
Gibson not so much of a monkey!
@@JimRamsayJWR All Right
I enjoy your videos of events in Edinburgh, especially those involving GSM Tony Gibson. While I'm an American, I was a Marine and I had a couple of Sergeants Major who would have given Tony a run for his money. Also having been a senior NCO myself, I enjoy watching a professional at work.
Tony is a true pro. Will have more soon when its remembrance Sunday November 13th
@@JimRamsayJWR Jim, the one thing I want to know about Tony, and GSM Vern Stokes in London, how do they get from place to place so darned fast. Are they capable of apparition like in Harry Potter? Little else seems to explain it. 🙂 All I know in my time in the Marine Corps, if a sergeant major was running someplace (not during PT), it was not a good sign and somebody(ies) were going to suffer.
A very proud GSM...RSM Tony GIBSON
The Elizabeth II (Queen of Britain) went to Balmoral for a reason.
Manchester
What a man respect
Right at the end of this superlative video its either ATC or the pilot giving / confirming instructions and then says 'God Bless the Queen'. Lump in the throat moment for me.
But what a huge responsibility for that one GSM to carry and he delivered BIG time.
Totally!
A legend
Totally agree

This chap sees everything. At the Edinburgh Remembrance Service the RN W/O saw one of his ratings was in distress but it was the GSM who took over and brought her off parade with a comforting touch on the elbow. Is he moving on? Does London District beckon? I’d be inclined to promote hm straight to Major General, commanding but that would be a waste of his talents. Tell him that if you see him, Jim.
Good morning Jim 😊😘❤️🥰👋🏻
Good morning!
Scotland The Best Solders
Hey Jim, can you tell me the name of the tune the bands were playing at Windsor for our late queen ( from when she entered Windsor castle up to before going in to the chapel?
Skye boat song was certainly played by Pipes and Drums on the long walk ua-cam.com/video/P6_qso0dyIw/v-deo.html
The Best Solders
I bet my house he wishes he hadn't fastened his sword belt over the top of his sash during that interview! What an embarrassment.
Solders
It happends
More like a councillor than a GSM, I was looking forward to some good old fashion reeming
Job well done! 👍🇬🇧
I totally agree KM!
Remarkable mn
Esse homem se destaca ele tem um sorriso encantador diferente dos britânicos sempre reservado👏😍
This man stands out he has a charming smile unlike the always reserved british people.
@@JimRamsayJWR isso mesmo.os ingleses se destacam pela frieza na dinamarca por exemplo eles adoram os gringos querem saber de onde vc é até do moeda quanto vale.etc incrível a diferença
@@michelefur that's right.the english stand out for the coldness in denmark for example they love the gringos they want to know where you are from even give the coin how much it's worth.etc amazing the difference
May I just state the Guy we see a lot with the Rosewood Pace stick isnt a Garrison Sarnt Major he is a Regimental Sarnt Major
Oh I think Tony would disagree there! There is an interview in St Andrews Square by BBFS Radio where he is clearly introduced as The Garrison Sergeant Major for Edinburgh
He seems like a rather nice chap . But still wouldn't like to get on the wrong side of him lol
Yeah you can tell that with the savaging dealt out to the young soldier outside of the Scottish parliament!
