I love all the tops, especially the one from Indian fabric, the polka dot, the beetle embroidered top, the fabric from Australia-and once you put ribbing on the "Cricket" top-that will be a favorite as well-OH!! I love that top with the astronaut, planets, and flowers on it!! So cute and original!! I do think you should try the puffy sleeve variation with a softer fabric-like perhaps the viscose....I think once you get the shoulders the right width, and using a softer fabric-you might really like that!! :+) Also on some of these tops, you might want to try cutting the cotton on the bias for something fun!! :+)
@@TheSpeckySeamstress Yes, please do, I think you will be pleasantly surprised-as you will still get a voluminous sleeve-but it will be less stiff, and more luxurious to wear!
Super! I love this pattern , I made a couple last year and have a dress cut out! My favourite is in a nani iron double gauze and its fab! A softer drapier fabric will give a different shape entirely! Love the idea of a dress in cord to layer up .
Love them all! I recently made my first cielo top from a double gauze - short sleeve with the cuff - and am really pleased with it! I wore my when I was in the UK recently with a long sleeve Tee so its going to be versatile too. Like you I'm also on the lookout for the perfect when top 🤗😁👍
You should check finished garment measurements to see how the ease will end up. But you know this... 🤗 I’ve made the Cielo in a dress version and will also size down in the top and grade up for the hips (being a pear). But I love it and the cuffed sleeves look great.
Great vlog! I had a similar issue trying to find a woven top. In the end, my teacher helped me copy one of my favourite NEXT tops which fits really well. I have already made my first and so excited to wear it for work! It had also made me less scared of wovens as I am much more of a knit girl!
Some lovely versions here. Do try it in viscose - I think you will like it, and why stop at 8? 😉 I am looking forward to making more of these when it is warmer. As you say, it doesn't work so well under cardis.
I was thinking about the Christine Haynes Varda shirt and dress when you mentioned the lack of shaping. so she's currently re-releasing all her patterns and you cannot at the moment purchase the Varda, but here's an idea christinehaynes.com/blog/2017/7/14/introducing-the-varda-dress-top I have not made it yet but your quest for a basic woven top pattern reminded me that I still had it in my collection. might also make a sweet shift dress for summer.
Hi laura good video about the cielo tops im going to buy the pattern tomorrow, could you tell me what bias binding you used round neck it looked really nice x
Why make one Cielo when 8 will do 😂😂😂! I got this pattern as part of the Rome Collection and will probably give this a go in the warmer weather as it looks like a really versatile make 😍❤️
Hi Laura!! Love them all & can’t pick 1.. 💜💜🧵🧵
They are all in regular wardrobe rotation :) :)

I'll definitely give a viscose version a go :) I haven't yet but it's on my rather long list!

Great review. I have always believed, if a pattern works, stick with it. I love all your tops. I love prints, and yours are fantastic!
A woman after my own heart for sure 🧡
Kwik sew 3895 reminds me of the cielo pattern in that its cropped and its finished with binding. Its a kwik and easy kwik sew pattern
I'll check it out!
I've also had a hard time finding a woven top of hat fits me
I am on my third cielo and love the pattern.

Oooh I bet that will be stunning!
I love the orange space top! Looks great on.
An thank you Toni, I can't wait till dress down Friday at work so I can wear it!
Great use of the pattern. Love doing multiple makes.
Thank you :) I always love a pattern repeated

I'll keep trying them and let you know what works for me!
Great review, love all the makes. I tend to put darts in the back just to give them some shape
Thanks Lorraine! Yeah it works out well :)
I’ve just traced off the pattern so I’m excited to make one now! Great review! Thanks Laura xx
Oh yay! Can't wait to see what you make!
I love all the tops ans can't decide on a favorite.
Thanks Lavada, I think the space top just edges into my favourite but I do love them all and they'll all get lots of wear
If you use the cross grain of the stuff fabrics it might make the top puffier .lifting pins and needles has a great video on this top
I'll check it out, thank you 🧡

Thank you Sue! Yes, silly moment but nevermind! Lesson learned!
"I actually think this is my favourite sleeve" 🤣
I mean, don't you have a favourite sleeve?!

That's great and pleased to hear you're conquering your fear of wovens! I was totally the other way around!
Hi Laura, have you thought of asking Whitney at Tom Kat Stitchery ?
She is really knowledgeable and so friendly , maybe she can help. Xx

Why stop at 8 indeed, that's the motivation I need!

Oh that look great, I will keep an eye out for it, thank you!
😀
How do you decide placement and depth of fisheye darts to add shaping?
Hey Vicki can I add this to my q and a video, I've had another question about it too and think it'll be easier to explain in voice than in text?
The Specky Seamstress yes, please!
Hi laura good video about the cielo tops im going to buy the pattern tomorrow, could you tell me what bias binding you used round neck it looked really nice x
Hi Judith, this was a satin bias binding, but I actually make and sell lovely soft cotton bias binding over at thespeckyseamstress.com now too!

Well exactly Lynne! It really is, can't wait to see what you make!
How does the sleeve depth compare on the Riley?
Hi Sue, what do you mean by sleeve depth? Length? Or circumference?
The Specky Seamstress I mean the underarm - you were saying about wearing it with a cardi could be difficult.
Oh! I can wear the Riley with a cardigan, the cielo is much wider than that :)
The Specky Seamstress I like the look of the Riley but it’s quite an expensive pattern!
@@sueb4919 it's £10 for the pdf which is pretty in line with most indie patterns?
