Sad to see. However, once you get a replacement, you will love it. Have one for 2 years, and it's worth the wait. Btw, use that long, thin, metal rod to clean it after you do a lot of desoldering. It's easier when still hot. Cheers!
On another note: is the hakko really that much better than the Pro'sKit SS-331H? I bought it two years ago for 86€ delivered. It's at almost double the price on banggood now but still... I am happy with that thing! Edith says: 118€ on Aliexpress shipped from Spain!
Hey Arminth! I'm looking to answer that exact question. I'm really curious if it's worth the money and I'll be able to be brutally honest as I didn't pay for it!
Yes, it really is. Adrian Black explained why in one of his videos a long time ago. Basically, the cheap ones (like the pro'skit or similar) only heat the tip. The Hakko heats the entire "tube", and thus it will not clog (as often). It is also a LOT easier to clean the Hakko, since the solder will "shoot" into the chamber and not "dribble in" as it does with cheaper ones. I have a cheap one, and I'm honestly saving up for the Hakko. I am SO annoyed with the constant hassle of cleaning it. (and I've tried two cheap ones, same issue with both)
Aww man I feel the disappointment, I have never had a dud but I have had the wrong thing sent, I ordered a toolset and received some of those resistance band things instead, did a return and refund and ordered the same toolset from a different seller.
I've seen Amazon offering a replacement of DOA items before. I get the impression that you're returning and planning to re-buy it? Wasn't there an option for it to be replaced rather than refund and buy again? If not, maybe Amazon live chat could help? Or am I being too optimistic...☹️
I bought a Duratool from Amazon last week and it was missing parts and looked like it had been dropped, needless to say it was returned the very same day I received it, I think they may have sent me a return too, I seem to hear about this happening a bit too often lately
@@morefunmakingit2doesn’t surprise me with Amazon. They sent me a used humidifier once full of limescale. No doubt a return made its way back into the supply chain. I’d get one from RS.
Sorry for your disappointment. You: "What am I doing wrong?", me: "You are paying stupid money for a device that is no better than the cheap Duratool!" 😮
@@morefunmakingit2 Guess I wasnt paying attention. Very uncommon for such an expensive piece of kit to be totally dead on arrival even if it may not ahve been it's first arrival. That sucks, or rather, it doesn't! Sorry for the bad pun. Too bad, hope to see you get a working one soon... Did you try getting 50 pounds off of the new one with support?
@@morefunmakingit2 ah yes I had a similar thing with a Chinese suplier (through Amazon) and if memory serves when I contacted the third party supplier they helped me! Your mileage may vary of course :/
Why would the price increase make any difference, you send it back to Amazon, it was supplied by Amazon you just check the option for I want a replacement and they will send you a new one...???
It's a third party seller. The only option available is to send it back and have a refund. No replacement offered, which is what I would have expected too
Sad to receive a DOA item and I think you made a mistake returning the desoldering gun. You should have used the chat to ask for a replacement, which Amazon would have sent at no extra cost.
Feels like a thumbs up is th wrong thing to do, but I have done it anyway. I feel gutted for you mate

Another idea for a you tube video (which up to now, doesn't exist). Looking forward to it, Lee!

Ah man. That's bad luck but it happens. Stay positive because the next one will be great and right down the serial number for your records.
It will thanks to you!
Looks like someone has either sent it back as faulty or done a switcheroo with the internal parts, I feel your disappointment.
It did cross my mind that a previous owner might have bought this, filled the insides with their broken parts, and then claimed a refund

No option to replace. Only choice was to return for refund. Really annoying
Disappointed that it's a vacuum desoldering gun and not one with a laser.
Pew pew, pew!

I wonder if some companies just keep sending out returned stuff in the hope someone will eventually not bother sending it back.
Watched part 2 first so I know how this turns out. :)
Gutted. These things happen but it’s rough when it happens. I’m sure you’ll get it swapped ok soon enough and you’ll be mooing like a champ.
Cheers Ross. It will make it all the sweeter when it finally arrives.
Have they put a 120v in by mistake with a UK plug?
Who knows. It looks to be used

What a shame Lee 😢 it does make you sad when that happens, just another pain in the back side sending it back and waiting again.
Exactly. Oh well. Fingers crossed the refund is speedy
Did oyu ever check the fuse in the plug?
First thing I did

The LED on the handle came on so the fuse would have been fine.
isn't that the 100v 50/60hz japanese unit and you connected it into a 220v outlet?
Nope!
hi, was that an original Hakko (€330) or a copy (€200)?
I believe it was original. Just broken
So how come you can't monetize videos?

there are so many Hakko fakes out there. its getting very hard to spot them. Some of them work but poorly. Sorry you got duped

Hakko isn't that good of a brand. Might as well buy some random chinese brand or spend more on a Weller.
