I liked the song and the story so much that I translated it into English with some notes and a (fairly freeform) analysis at the end. 曲も歌詞もPVも素敵すぎて感動しました。 あまりにも気に入ってて、英語訳、そして個人的な参考のいろいろを失礼します!よろしくお願いします。 === Kanna Tateisu - “Okuu” (“Okuu no ai” - 屋烏の愛 is a term meaning a love so deep, it reaches even the crow on the recipient’s roof.) “Begin, continue, end” - I’d depended on words for all of those So I wanted to be sharp and cold about it, just like you Affection and my heart, coincidences and signs - when I’d make a mistake, it’s Palilalia (1) Feelings, darkness and light - I’d skillfully sublimate them (2) “If it’s us, we can become anything”, it felt that way We kept admitting each other’s differences (3) to each other Tell me the limits, the limits, the limits of your love On a journey that converges beyond the point of alphabet! Could be a stylized way of expressing that the boy keeps saying unwanted things or incorrect assumptions all over again. (2) Skillfully sublimate (one’s) feelings - sublimation is modifying something into a more useful variant. He’d take all he felt and turn it into something else, or hide it. (3) 互いに互いの違い - tagai ni tagai no tagai wo - the word 違い (differences) is usually read as “chigai” but here it’s repeatedly used as “tagai” which is also a possible reading. Could be intentional to match the other “tagai” (互い), meaning “mutual”, “each other” to show that despite their differences they are still similar. (4) Alphabet - 五十音 (gojuuon) is the 5x10 grid of all kana characters (hiragana, katakana.) Possibly implies "anything that can be put into words", more on this later. (5) Proof of (one’s) skill - it’s the second time 器用 is used in a similar fashion. 器用 means “skill”, “dexterity” - in the song’s context it could refer to the skill of finding the right words and actions to please the other. (6) Invisible light - the light spectrum below the red (infrared) or above the violet (ultraviolet). The colors humans can’t see. (7) 云い得て居る一行 - “iieteiru ichigyou” - “ichigyou” means the first line of a song, verse, poem. Could be referencing the gojuuon line (alphabet), meaning that the narrator cannot begin to understand even a little of the girl’s actions or thoughts - maybe because she doesn’t put it into words, or says things he doesn’t get. (8) Point reflection - a point reflection is a 180 degrees reflection of something in the second dimension. Since this refers to their perceptions, it could be that despite all things they agree on, they are somehow still the opposite of each other. Note how the boy and the girl look similar (face, hair) but have contrasting image colors (eyes, highlights) - blue and orange. (9) 言葉を畏れぬ亡霊 - “kotoba wo osorenu bourei” - a ghost unafraid of words - she is cold and words don’t affect her. The boy, though, constantly talks about being “dependent on words.” (10) 五十音を慕い従属する僕が嫌いか - another line referencing the gojuuon grid (11) 天体 Show - tentai means celestial body. A show of planets, stars, etc. This song series frequently uses astronomical terms to express what’s going on between the two main characters. It’s used more poetically in the other song, “Ai mo takenawa” (which is more like the girl’s POV?), while “Okuu” talks about anything star-related in a more literal, almost scientific way. My theory is that the girl takes things and expresses herself in a more ambiguous and indirect way, while the boy depends on words and being direct, and despite looking and being nearly identical that’s what sets them apart in the end. Going back to the song title, part of "Okuu" is 烏 - meaning crow, and during the last chorus there is imagery of a birdcage with a crow in it. At the very end the girl is looking up at the sky alone on the roof, opposite of the scene in "Ai mo takenawa" where they stand on the roof together. The boy likely "escaped" the birdcage and jumped off, as he grows more discontent and unhappy as the song goes.
For the past year I’ve been so obsessed with this song. It’s so aggressively bouncy it’s perfect. I’m someone that’s severely picky with music to an extreme level, this one to me is genuinely one of my special favorites. Thank you for creating such a beautiful piece!!
Palilalia
感情の陰と陽 器用に昇華
僕達なら何にでも成れる
そんな気がしたんだ
互いに 互いの 違いを 認めて居た
君の愛の涯の涯の涯の
言葉を教えてお呉れ!
五十音の向う 収束する迄の 旅路だ
僕の奥の奥の奥の奥を云い表す其声が
聞えないのは 屹度僕の所為なんだ
光る 天体 Show
Show
「互いに互いの違いを認めて居た」
っていう歌詞がすごい好き……。

Kanna Tateisu - “Okuu”
(“Okuu no ai” - 屋烏の愛 is a term meaning a love so deep, it reaches even the crow on the recipient’s roof.)
“Begin, continue, end” - I’d depended on words for all of those
So I wanted to be sharp and cold about it, just like you
Affection and my heart, coincidences and signs - when I’d make a mistake, it’s Palilalia (1)
Feelings, darkness and light - I’d skillfully sublimate them (2)
“If it’s us, we can become anything”, it felt that way
We kept admitting each other’s differences (3) to each other
Tell me the limits, the limits, the limits of your love
On a journey that converges beyond the point of alphabet! (4)
The voice that conveys what’s deep, deep, deep inside of me,
It’s probably my fault that you can’t hear it.
A dazzling star show.
A pattern preaching morality and necessary cautions. I hesitate and swallow my words.
Keeping up appearances is also proof of one’s skill (5)
If you want my unrestrained side, I’ll show as much of it as you want. That’s all there is to it.
Piling up and up our differences, before you notice, it’s...
Show me the finale of the limits, the limits, the limits of my love!
Beyond the invisible light (6), what spreads out is our history
That first line (7) that conveys what’s deep, deep, deep inside of you
It’s probably my fault that I don’t understand it
A point reflection of our perceptions (8)
In love you’re lost, a ghost unafraid of words (9)
Do you hate me for yearning for and depending on words (10)?
This voice that conveys what’s deep, deep, deep inside of me
It’s probably your fault that you can’t hear it.
The end of a star show (11)

Awesome translation, this is such a good song

0:29 「Palilalia(パリラリア)」…
