I always enjoy your lecture but as someone who lives in the US and have studied US constitution extensively I would disagree with your point that US by constitution is not a secular state. “Separation of Church and State” is an explicit call of secularism. State are prohibited from promoting any religion. In US while there are conservative parties but there is no explicitly Christian party. US does not have any official religion and doesn’t have official language. Having English as official language was seen as discriminatory towards Catholics of Spain, France and Germany and would be seen as unconstitutional. In BD as you mentioned at the start of constitution it starts with Bismillah, but in US not only the constitution doesn’t start with in name of Jesus, but when attempts were made to even say in name of God to be neutral even that was struct down in court as unconstitutional. In Alabama recently, when the state passed a law forcing schools to display 10 commandments, that law was deemed discriminatory and structed down as unconstitutional. In conclusion, I would say US constitution absolutely calls for secularism in terms of running of the state. The state cannot promote any religion and cannot promote atheism. All of it is seen as a private matter of an individual. It all came from a culture that was started from pilgrims who fled to America to escape religious violence and oppression in Europe.

But everybody has a right to preach his or her beliefs individually or in groups and even be active politically . USA prrsidents celebrate Christmas, Easter , and these days even Eids and other holidays. Many of them went to church publicly , never hiding their religious faith
@@sabrinashahab795 Umm, I believe American presidents also celebrate various religious events, from Jewish holidays to eventually Muslim ones. To be fair, I am a strong critic of American foreign policy. However, when it comes to domestic politics, I can affirmatively say that the U.S. is more secular than most other countries, especially compared to Britain.

Awami league under Shawardy was a typical USA loving middle of the road party , however later it took an extreme turn toward the left especially after independence . After its rebirth , Awami League again became a middle of the road party pretending that BNP was an extreme Islamist party . BNP under Ziaur Rahman was another USA loving middle of the road party which tried to bring together Islam and Bengali nationalism . Changes brought by Ziaur Rahman to the constitution followed the American pattern ( eg declaration of independence ) . However , later under Khaleda Zia , BNP showed tendency to partner with Jamat Islami , however it never lost its liberal roots
